During the deep-​freeze earlier this month, my 2010 Hyundai was completely dead when I went to start it in the morning. No turn-​over, just total silence. I looked on Unilocal for some recommendations and saw the great ratings for A Speedline Tire & Auto and gave them a call, explaining that I’d need a new battery.
Ron was very courteous and helpful in giving me directions and a very good price for a new battery and installation. I was very pleased with the cost and had my car towed to the shop.
Although the tow truck driver was able to jump my car, the battery was original from 2010 and at the end of its life. A Speedline Tire & Auto Service had a nice new battery installed in less than an hour and I was able to pick it up quickly. My car has been running great since then and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend A Speedline to anyone.
Ron and Pablo are running their shop the right way, being extremely fair, and a great asset to the north Chicago area. I’ll be a repeat customer when it comes time for the next oil change or any other auto needs I have.

went in to have a nail removed from my tire. turns out, it didnt go in all the way… they were honest about it, took it out, and didnt charge me :) VERY HAPPY!

This is my second time at Speedline and my first time with my new car (that’s not a piece of garbage like my last one). Not only are the employees here extremely nice and welcoming, but they make me feel like a priority. They gave me updates on my service along the way which I love. I felt the price was very fair, and they got all the work I needed done so quickly! I know this will be my go-​to mechanic from now on and am so happy with their service!

I have been going to Speedline for years and this review is far overdue. They are consistently reliable, knowledgeable and reasonable. They are always professional, direct, and honest. When I bought my used car, they even took a look at it on the spot before I made the final purchase to check for any problems.
If I could give them six stars I would.

I can’t say enough good things about Speedline. They are always fast, friendly, and professional. There’s a great team of people working here, and they always listen to my concerns, unlike many other garages I have tried. They have even caught several issues missed by other shops. Plus their prices are very reasonable. Go there.

I live in the neighborhood and I can’t tell you how nice it is to have a friendly and skilled car service shop within walking distance. Every time I come in, everyone is super friendly and they get the work done fast. When they find something that needs to be fixed that I didn’t know, they call and thoroughly talk me through what the issues is, if it is an immediate fix or can wait and what the pricing for that service is going to be. I have not had a bad experience there.

These guys are the best. Friendly, helpful and honest. They exceed expectations with every visit. I feel lucky to have them in the neighborhood.

Due to my own woeful inability to upkeep my vehicle over the last few years, I’ve spent a LOT of time with these guys and a TON of money on parts/​labor over the last year — but I keep coming back because they’re personable, straightforward and just plain good at what they do. (I mean, yeah, also because I needed my car to run, but…)
The best part of my experience has been that each time I brought my car in, they gave me a list of things that needed attention, but they were able to help me prioritize what was needed most in a friendly, informative and non-​condescending manner. This helped both with my budget planning and my feeling of trust in the work that they were putting into my car.

To quote Batman «He trashed my car, Alfred. Between a couple of guys, that’s real personal». Of course, «he» in this sentence is the relentless march of time and numerous cross country trips throughout the moving process. But with a leaky coolant hose and a disconcerting squeal starting to occur whenever I made a turn, clearly I needed to find a good garage and quick. So, through the combination of Unilocal reassurances and the fact that it was, literally, a couple blocks away (Buy Local!), I went to Speedline Auto and Tire. And I had a good experience! They explained everything they were doing to the car in a way that made sense, and for a price that crazy-​by-​anything-​but-​car-​repair-​but-​quite-​reasonable-​by-​those-​standards. The only drawback was that, as they had to disconnect the battery to complete their work, the radio had ended up in lock mode, which is the kind of thing that requires Escape-​The-​Room-​esque puzzle-​ass-​bullshit to do by myself. However, when I called back to explain the situation, they apologized profusely and offered a free next oil change as compensation. (Which, admittedly, is a pretty blatant grab at establishing customer loyalty, but an appreciated one.) If they make good on that, it’s an easy five stars.

Wow, i found this place here at Unilocal.So i decide to come and give a try. You can tell right away they know wath are they doing, they are super friendly, they explain to me my options before do anything to my car. I’m extremely satisfied. I will come back and i will recommend this place to my friends. I give 6 stars if i could.

I have used Speedline’s services twice now: once when I cracked my oil pan and needed a replacement and a second time to fix the issue causing my check engine light to burn bright. I have had a great experience both times and will definitely use them again. They seem to have a lot of pride and integrity in what they do. They went above and beyond this last time– fixing an issue with my bumper without charging me because they noticed it needed to be done. I recommend them!

Speedline did a good job on my car for several years, but then their service got much worse. Suddenly the man became verbally aggressive with me and I started to lose trust in them. They recommended an expensive repair, and I subsequently confirmed that those repairs were not needed.

Very proud to call Speedline my go-​to place for maintenance and repairs. The guys are very professional, and when they recommend repairs, I know I can trust the recommendations to be true. They recently replaced a set of wheel bearings for me, after showing me the broken part. I brought the car in for repair on Friday evening, and picked it up Saturday morning. They are prompt, honest, and fair with pricing. They also have a nice, clean waiting room, and great location. I highly recommend.

Had two good experiences here with two flat tires. Very professional, quick and didn’t play games.

Pretty fast service. Pretty so so mechanics. If you live in the neighborhood like I do and need an oil change, or if your car is unlikely to make it more than a few blocks before dying, Speedline is worth a try. I’ve gone here several times over the past decade and sometimes they did fine work and other times they did not so fine work. I’d say they did great with small things like rotating tires and fixing headlamps. On bigger repairs involving engine repair and electronics, I had to go back multiple times before they got it right. Finding a great mechanic in Chicago is tough, and these guys aren’t great, but they are okay and their prices are fair.

Honest, reliable and fantastic customer service. These guys know how to fix you vehicle and do so in a timely matter. Ron and his crew. Will take care of you like family. I wouldnt ever dream of taking my vehicle to the dealer again!

Speedline has been my go-​to auto place since having a car in Chicago — it’s helped keep my 12 year old Hyundai Elantra on the road and in great shape for the last 5 years and 50k miles. When living in Hyde Park, I even drove all the way up to the north side just to drop my car off here — there’s no shop I would trust with my car instead! I’ve been to a few other shops in other parts of Chicago when it seemed more convenient — inevitably I was charged more for a more poorly done job.
The guys at Speedline, as is said often in these reviews, are helpful, friendly, knowledgable, informative, refreshingly straightforward and honest. I’ve brought them all sorts of minor and major issues with my car (some of my own doing, some normal wear and tear, none the fault of my mechanics) — tires, belts, struts, brakes, oil changes. Without fail, whoever’s at the desk listens to what’s been going on, and gives me an informative call when they check it out during the day.
I also appreciate that I can drop my car before going into work and usually pick it up same day — I’ve always been called with details about what’s being done, so there are never any surprises.
Speedline is a store I will miss terribly when I move away from Chicago — I’ve never been to another mechanic that I’ve trusted the same way.

I was visiting Chicago last week when my headlight went out. Not wanting a ticket, I decided to replace it immediately but lacked the tools to do the job right — while it a simple job, everything is so crammed in under my hood that the battery must be moved to replace the bulb.
After another shop wanted me to wait 3 hours for service, I called Danny at Speedline. Knowing I was in a hurry, Danny and his crew took my car immediately, replaced the headlight and a dead parking light bulb, and had me out the door in 15 minutes.
But what about the cost? You’d think it would be a perfect opportunity to make a buck on an out-​of-​town customer, right? Speedline charged competitive prices for the bulbs, and NOTHING for labor. In the end, less than half of what I expected to pay.
I’m in Chicago frequently and, from now on, Speedline will be my go-​to resource for auto repairs.
