The owner, Bill, does a fantastic job every time. He takes his time and may not be the fastest hairdresser, but his work is of the highest quality.

I found this place by accident as I was walking to go get a $ 10 haircut in the neighborhood. There were so many places to go to but I always felt a little dread because it could be hit or miss with places charging that much. So, this one day, I walked down Ashland north of 35th street. I walked past A & B and did a double take because I did not see it before. To be honest with you, I am not sure what prompted me to even check it out. I think it was because my last $ 10 haircut sucked. I was in this position as I was on a tight budget and did not want to spend the $ 35 plus tip for my last stylist due to my «unemployment» budget. Of course, I didn’t want to look like a mad man with exaggerated trims over my ears(like weird arcing or something) and other challenges like uneven sides etc. I started to feel like the $ 10 cut situation was actually making me feel less and less satisfied with the end results. So, I called A & B and that was the start of my year plus love affair with this place. A man named Bill answered the phone. You could certainly tell English was not his first language and I placed his accent as being most likely Chinese(since the neighborhoods around here have a heavy Chinese ownership rate). So, let’s be honest, as a mixed breed dude(Mexican/Lithuanian) and raised as an average American, I wasn’t too sure how we would communicate as I have barely learned enough«English» to get by, let alone attempting any foreign language communication, but I took a chance. He told me that a man’s haircut was $ 20 and I decided I was going to give it a chance. I am so glad I did. The above was over a year ago and I am a VERYSATISFIED customer. A gentleman, Cho, ushered me in and took good care of me that first day and then Bill came in and ushered me over to the shampoo chair and proceeded to give me a wash. This was not your ordinary wash, I got an invigorating scalp massage and some expert water rinsing of the suds and hair conditioner. Seriously, I wanted to fall asleep in that chair as it was so relaxing. Bill certainly tries his best to communicate and does an excellent job. Let me say this, I was able to clearly get across to him what I wanted but then, on my second visit, I brought a picture. Both times, this man was spot on. Seriously blew my mind. The cuts are precision and never rushed. After your cut, he then takes you back to the shampoo area and you get a fantastic rinse and then back to the chair for drying and final styling. Bill also treated me to a chair massage on one of my visits. It was given by a wonderful woman named Ivy. Though we had a little language barrier, just by genuinely wanting to communicate with each other, we ended up having a great time and laughing. I was also in pure bliss with the massage and Ivy adjusted to my needs perfectly(we also had to be mindful of my right shoulder and artificial elbow area). She was awesome. $ 12 for 10 minutes and it was well worth it and then some. By the way, Ivy is now my «First Wife» and they can explain the story behind that! :) Some tips that will help you — 1) They are always accommodating and you can call them at the last minute and they will get you in. I do recommend giving them a call to make sure. To date, in the last year that I have gone there, never EVER have I not been able to get in at my time and taken care of. 2) As I mentioned above, my first visit was a total success as the cut was awesome. However, I brought in a cut shown in a specific picture the second time, just to make it easier to show what I wanted that time, and he was spot on. For the average customer that may not have the desire to try to bond with another human being in a natural non-rushed manner, this will be a time saver and make it very easy for Bill to give you the look you want to achieve. 3) I highly recommend the chair massage by Ivy. For this, I suggest calling in to make sure of her schedule as I believe she is off on certain days. Note — I also saw his prices for a woman’s haircut. I have been told that they are affordable compared to other places. So ladies, I highly recommend you check out their pricing. Bill is a master stylist and if you bring in that pic and give him a shot, I am sure you will not be disappointed. The place is always clean in every area that I have observed. Bright and nicely colored interior that is welcoming, energizing and yet relaxing. Cho, Bill and Ivy have been wonderful and I even try to communicate via testing out my Google Translate app. We have had a lot of laughs and I have to say, I truly appreciate this staff. I took a chance in between cuts twice(both for even tighter budget reasons at the time) and I regretted it. When I went in for a «hair rescue» on my next visit to Bill, he was able to seamlessly correct the challenges. Check this place out, people. I would be completely stunned if you do not enjoy your visit and the results.

I only go to this place for haircut although there’re tons in Chinatown. Bill the owner has sophisticated techniques and friendly service. Great cuts!

This is my first time at this salon and I am absolutely floored at how happy I was during and after my hair cut. Asian hair is not easy to cut as it tends to be very thin. Bill did my hair perfect! He made sure to consult me throughout the entire process and did not rush through it either. My hair looks 10x healthier and this is the first time I did not leave a salon upset. Nothing but good things to say about this salon. This is definitely a salon people need to try. As far as the cost, it might be one of the least expensive salons considering the length of my hair and the type of haircut I wanted.

Bill is talented, friendly, and very affordable. I spent $ 35 dollars(with my tip) and my very long blonde processed hair was expertly shampooed with an incredible scalp massage, deep conditioned, then cut and styled. I had Bill take about 4+ inches off my shapeless, one length, generally wrecked mane. I feel like I got an absolutely fabulous and cool haircut. I don’t want to see Bill get overrun or the prices go through the roof, but MYOHMY this place and stylist are really deserving of the five-star prize. What a find… I am so happy I went!

I’ve been going to Bill(owner) when he was working at a salon in Chinatown Square. I’ve been going to him for haircuts for about 10 years. Before that I tried different hairstylists with no luck. I am a girl and for all you ladies out there, don’t you hate when the stupid hairstylists cut more than you tell them to? Come to think of it, all the hairstylists I previously went to were all women. Seems the majority want to make you look ugly or something. With Bill, he does a wonderful job layering my hair. He cuts my hair to the length I want, no more, no less. A haircut for women cost $ 25 which is extremely reasonable given the time he spends on your hair. Only thing I dislike is the person that washes my hair. She does this weird kind of head massage while washing my hair which is a bit awkward and makes me a little uncomfortable. Other than that, I would recommend him to anyone.

My friend recommends me to get my haircut done in A & B Beauty Salon. I went there after made an hair appointment with Bill that is an owner and hair stylist of A & B Beauty Salon. He is very patient and customers like me feel free to ask him advices for hair cut. I like his haircut service and the price is reasonable.

I first found Bill at the hair salon where he used to work in Chinatown Square several years ago, and since then, I have not wanted anyone but him to do my hair. When I called him up last weekend for a haircut appointment, he told me to go to his new salon on South Ashland Ave. …and what a nice salon it is — simple but very clean and contemporary, and there’s street parking right in front of the building as well as in an empty lot that sits next to it. Best of all, the price is right! $ 22 for a cut and wash(even less expensive than before). Bill took his time to do a fantastic job. He mentioned to me that he used to run a hair and beauty salon business back in China where he originated from. His business thrived and grew to having 3 different branches, but he had to sell it since he moved to this country. I highly recommend Bill’s service.
