History

Established in 1955.

Shane’s — The Pawn Shop, Inc. was opened by Joseph Z. Schoeneman and his uncle Joe Schoeneman. It was a full line pawn shop that took in almost anything of value. The business closed after a fire in 1968 and uncle Joe retired. In 1970 Joseph and his family reopened Shane’s doors. After 12 years of successful operation, Joseph once again faced the decision to retire and closed Shane’s. In 1989, David and Carmencita re-opened Shane’s — The Pawn Shop, Inc. was reborn. Shane’s is now staffed by 13 employees and holds the title «Best Pawnshop of the Year» as voted by the Star and Daily Southtown newspapers for many years. Presently, Shane’s deals almost exclusively with jewelry only. Now, Shane’s continues to serve its customers with the same honesty, integrity and compassion. For Shane’s, the customers will always come first.
