I would never go to this establishment. EVER. They do NOTALLOWTAKEOUT. If you don’t eat your food in the Resturant there is ZERO way to get it to go. The staff is insanely rude and the manager is a basic idiot.

My parents wanted to dine here and have been here previously and enjoyed myself. We had a good time here. Originally we came here for their happy hour specials and the menu was quite limited. We ordered drinks with Zack, a friendly bartender, who makes some excellent dry gin or vodka martini’s, then proceeded to sit down at main dining room! My party had a real good time here and this the four star ratings. I did go a little overboard, so the price was a bit high, by getting the toro tuna appetizer($ 39.50) and waygu beef on hot rocks appetizer($ 16?). Felt luxurious, these two food items. Yum. If I could afford it, I would order just these two dishes and be happy man. The sushi/sashimi didn’t disappoint, but for the rolls, I think imo, put too much rice. Save room for their desserts too. Nicely decorated space with great service. Highly recommend this place for special occasion place or get a drink or two and some apps with their happy hour menu.

I went with a large group of co-workers and we enjoyed the ambiance and food: The Brussels sprouts, salmon sashimi, soft shell crab roll, Chevy chase roll and the beef tenderloin were delicious. They got our order a bit confused– we had ordered black cod and they gave us a salmon roll– but it was too late to fix it because the kitchen closed. Regardless, we still enjoyed the meal and drinks!

The service here is the worst. Our server ignored us completely after we ordered. we didn’t get the water for the whole time(we asked for water 4 times, she would say yes and not come back). We were going to order more food but we could not, because every time she passed by us, she avoided to look at us, or pretended that she didn’t hear anything from us. Finally we ordered something. Before we got the second courses of food, our plates and chopsticks were taken away by a guy. Then we had to ask the server several times to get new plates and chopsticks so we would be able to eat. Omg, it is the worst service that you could ever imagine. I wish I could give a 0 out of 5. Please don’t go to this place to ruin your day.

Upon coming in, my friend and I thought Sushiko to have great ambiance and aesthetic appeal. We were seated at a table and ordered our drinks. Five minutes later, a different employee from our server asked us if we planned on ordering anything and told us that outside food is not permitted. I appreciate the professional environment; however, I strongly dislike being treated with suspicion just because I am a teenager. I am a customer like anyone else and I wish this restaurant treated me with more respect and hospitality. The food was okay, but very overpriced like everyone says. Be prepared to feel uncomfortable if you’re dining at sushiko.

Fresh sushi, great selection, peculiar quirks. Expected oshibori but none were offered. Food did not come out all at once, and the appetizers arrived as various points throughout the meal. Last to arrive were the chicken skewers, which baffled me. However, the staff was very accommodating and were surprisingly polite. Would go again when the Chef’s tasting menu returns.

I came here for a week day lunch and tried their lunch prix fixe– Salmon Ceviche(choice of starter) and 2 rolls. The Salmon Ceviche was my favorite part, and I loved the yuzu vinaigrette. The rolls(they give you a list to choose from) were fine, but nothing remarkable. The atmosphere is nice and quiet, and service was attentive.

The customer service is excellent at sushiko. The seaweed salad was simply amazing. The drinks were okay nothing special, the sushi was awful. I love sushi, this was so bad and over priced. We did not even finish our sushi we ended up going somewhere else to eat.

Solid 3 stars. It is definitely overpriced, but that should be expected for the area. First and foremost, order the brussels sprouts. The accompanying sauce is TODIEFOR. I was shocked to be so in love with brussels sprouts, at a sushi restaurant no less, but it is one of the best veggie dishes I’ve had locally. Unfortunately the rest of the sushi isn’t much to rave about. It is tasty, but some of the specialty rolls pack far less value than I’m satisfied with. The Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll and Softshell Crab Roll are my favorites, with the Crunchy Shrimp Roll coming in at a close third. Portions are moderate but some may leave hungry even after two rolls. All in all, worth ordering here if you are desperate for sushi but there are much better options further out in Montgomery County.

I made a reservation a month in advance at 7PM for Valentine’s Day weekend. I don’t get to go out to nice restaurants that often. I was especially excited to get the vegetable tasting menu that got featured in the Washington Post. My partner is vegan and options are pretty limited. I wanted to wow him. Somehow the reservation I made a month in advance isn’t the right kind of reservation. The person who came over to talk to us spent 10+ minutes explaining why I was wrong, didn’t offer to help. No alternative presented other than overpriced avocado rolls. It’s 7 on a Saturday night. What am I even supposed to do? Sushiko is totally heartless and doesn’t care about its customers at all. Thanks for ruining my Valentine’s Day plan.

If there was a restaurant in MoCo that set the standards for spectacular sushi, Sushiko would be it. Some places, the photos look better than the food. Here, the photos look amazing and it STILL does not do the food justice. Presentation is absolutely perfection and the fish here is so fresh and beautifully made, I honestly *whispers* think it’s better than the sushi I’ve had in LA. Now, before you take my head for that statement, just try it out and you’ll be a believer, too. You can’t go wrong with any of their raw fish offerings, but below are some of my favorites(if you want to get straight to the good stuff): 1) Chirashi — the hands-down most indulgent, delicious chirashi I’ve ever had. The rock shrimp was crisp, buttery, melt-in-your mouth. 2) Hamachi Crudi — beautiful pink slices of hamachi with delicate veins of fat running through; paired with a ponzu/yuzu sauce and slices of grapefruit. Each bite is perfection. Who knew this combination was so mindblowing? 3) Panna Cotta — the favorite dessert of one of the owners. One bite later, one can easily see why. Delicate yet creamy panna cotta with espresso dusting & toasted almond slivers. Executed perfectly — and nothing better than that to finish your sushi meal! Other dishes that are spectacular are: Salmon ceviche — thinly sliced salmon(to allow the flavor of the sauce to penetrate) in a yummy yuzu sauce Seaweed salad — not your standard type here! They use 3 different kinds of seaweed to make it. It’s pretty and delicious! All-in-all, you can expect a extraordinary sushi meal here. It’s on par with DC sushi prices, but you get so much more in quality and creativity. The chef’s passion & craftsmanship clearly shines through the food. The environment is chic yet inviting — perfect for dates, business lunches/dinners, etc. Last, but not least, the service is excellent — everyone was so warm & welcoming; timing of our dishes were perfect & our drinks were never below half full! Love Sushiko! Tips: Free parking — bring your ticket to validate. They are next to the Giant foods! Lunch deal is a bargain — $ 22 for 3 course lunch.

My fiancé and I celebrated the 3-year anniversary of the day we met by going to a sushi bar, as we did on Jan 31, 2013. This time, we chose a slightly more upscale sushi bar: Sushi Ko in Chevy Chase /Friendship Heights. It’s in a ritzy part of town and has some seriously awesome sushi options. My only complaint is that the portion sizes are small! My fiancé decided to order off the Restaurant Week(as it happened to be Restaurant Week), but I ordered a la carte. I got the Omakase Sashimi, which came with 15 very fresh pieces of fish(ranging from tuna, salmon, eel, yellowtail, and even shrimp). This was very delicious, but it wasn’t enough food. I even ordered rice on the side and still wasn’t full. I also ordered the coconut ice cream, which came with a mango topping. Decent! My fiancé ordered off the restaurant week menu and got: –First course: Suimono(lobster, asparagus, enoki mushrooms, dashi). This was a soup and my fiancé liked it, but they kind of skimped on the lobster portion. –Second course: Tsukuri(chef’s choice of fish) –Third course: Edomae style sushi(chef’s choice of fish) –Fourth course: Mizumono(green tea ice cream). This was the only dessert choice and my fiancé liked it, but it was a small portion. Service was great and the atmosphere is nice. Not super dim and romantic and a little more casual than we expected, but still very nice. And we loved the décor. It’s located a couple blocks away from the Friendship Heights Metro station, but we drove there(and there’s a parking lot in the back, for which they validate). Overall, we had a good experience at Sushi Ko. It’s by no means our favorite sushi place and they did kind of skimp on the portions, but we still enjoyed the experience.

Really fresh sushi and nigiri! I’ve been trying to find a go-to sushi bar near where I live in Bethesda and now I’ve found it. Went here for happy hour and their happy hour specials are great. $ 5 sake and cocktails and also $ 4 – 6 apps and hand rolls which were unique and tasty. I had the sake nigiri(scottish salmon) and hamachi nigir(yellowtail from Japan apparently) and both were mouth watering. The crunch spicy tuna roll was great too. For the price and the quality of the rolls and how good the asparagus and chicken yakitori were this will be a regular spot

My best friend and I stumbled upon this gem for happy hour before heading to the Giant right next door & I’m so glad we did! Def must check this place out for delicious & strong drinks for only $ 5. Pros: 1. ambience(nice décor, very clean, very attentive service, & they have a comfy lounge area in the back. 2. happy hour drinks are only $ 5& they’re so delicious! 3. their brussels sprouts & crunchy handrolls were so unique & addictingly good! Cons: 1. Don’t get their panko shrimp(it was really disappointing taste-wise & they only give you 2 pieces. like really?! I get more, tastier deep fried shrimp at Giant for the same price) 2. our server accidentally charged us 2 extra drinks so always, ALWAYS check your bill before paying because they don’t give you an itemized receipt once you give them your credit cards. Our bill came out to $ 40 each and we ordered 3 drinks each(6 total), 2 orders of brussels sprouts, 2 orders of handrolls(salmon & tuna), panko shrimp(don’t get), and their ceviche(good but not worth the money, honestly). Overall, pretty impressed with their happy hour deals & our meal! We’ll be back :)

I think this restaruant has a very nice vibe and interior. The servers are all very nice but the problem I have with this restaruant is how over priced it is. The sushi is very expensive and it’s very noticeable.

A friend and I recently went to Sushiko in Chevy Chase, MD and had the Omakase tasting menu. It was spectacular. The courses where perfectly timed and the service was impeccable. Every course was it’ own wonderful adventure, beginning with the homemade tofu topped with fresh Uni. The Uni was from Japan — not California — and was bursting with sea foam. The combination of the tofu and the Uni created a richly textured, creamy experience. A single Kumamoto oyster was presented under a dome of cherry wood smoke. The subtle hints of the smoke compliment the fresh, briny oyster, bringing a whole new experience for the simple mollusk. One of the highlights of the multi-course evening was the grilled Branzino. It was prepared simply, with a little salt crusting the skin, and cooked to perfection. We enjoyed several more courses, but here’s the kicker… they were all paired with Red Burgundy — yes, I said RED Burgundy! Not beer. Not Sake. But Pinot Noir! And you know what? It worked — actually, it was better than«it worked» — it was spectacular. The evening ended with one additional surprise — dessert! Panna cotta no less. Now, how in the world a classic Italian dessert winds up on the tasting menu at a Japanese restaurant defies explanation, but just be glad it did because it is THEBEST preparation of this ‘cooked cream’ that I have ever had. So, if your up for a sushi adventure in the Washington, DC area, I think you would be hard pressed to find a more playful-yet-tasteful experience than this one.

A classic for special occasions, but I am disappointed that they got rid of their Ultimate Roll last year, with all their menu changes. Usually I manage to get a comfy table, and the food always delivers, though service can get iffy depending on the crowd that day.

This place has made big changes to its menu in the past year, and I am very impressed — especially by the sushi omakase! The place used to have some fun dishes, but I felt they were a bit pricey and too oily. Now with the omakase, I see they have a very refined understanding of fish and combinations to compliment it. I had the sushi omakase soon after New Years — when fish deliveries might not be at their peak freshness. However, the fish they selected were all very unique and fresh. There were many surprises — for example I am usually bored by tuna, but the«tuna 3 ways» they gave me was highly impressive and showed the innovation of the chef. They pulled out all the stops in terms of fancy accoutrements — mackerel topped with baby tomato and truffle(my favorite), a juicy white shrimp with sturgeon caviar, seared tuna topped with foie gras. There was also a foie gras nigiri at the end that was creamy but surprisingly light and a good ending to the meal. I had never thought foie gras would match rice so well! They also had pieces where the fish spoke for itself. My only complaint would be that the rice felt a little overly sweet without the slight sour /umami taste(from having a little dashi in the rice vinegar) that I like in sushi rice. Overall, I’m excited to see where this place goes. I originally was unsure of the authenticity of this place when I first started going, but the fish has won me over. This is also my Japanese mom’s favorite sushi place in MD(and maybe in the DC area as Makoto starts to go downhill). Get the omakase!

Absolutely love this place every time I eat there. I mainly go there for the sushi and maybe their nigiri and some of their rolls are a bit higher priced than the rest, but the quality is far superior to some other restaurants or chain sushi bars in the area. The chef is quite creative with the items on the menu. The restaurants modern and understated décor creates a calm atmosphere. It is actually quite enjoyable to dine in the bar area. The service is great too. They are fast and great at explaining the menu and making recommendations. When the weather is good, they have a small outside seating area that can be quite nice. It is definitely one of my favorite sushi spots in the area.

Great food. I really liked the Wagyu beef, sucker for hot rocks cooking. The mussel soup was excellent. The duck was really good. So was the tempura. And the lobster. And the bread pudding. And the tempura banana. We are a lot. Service was good. Highly recommended.

Sushiko is a classy date spot, for sure. The staff is attentive and the ambiance is quite lovely. They also up the ante a bit on their rolls, with rolls like the blue crab California roll. The roll selection isn’t as vast as other area sushi bars, but the choices are pretty solid. The prices certainly reflect the area, but that is to be expected. I prefer Yuzu in Bethesda, but Sushiko reigns supreme in the ambiance category.

Did the lunch special here with a friend. $ 23.50 for 3 courses — miso soup, shrimp tempura, 4 pieces nigiri and a maki roll. The soup was great, but they don’t give you much. I loved the shrimp tempura and nigiri, but wasn’t impressed with the maki roll. It wasn’t a big amount of food for the amount you pay, but it was tasty!

This was a really good sushi experience. Mostly, the variety of dishes and the option of having a lunch combination with salad and side was really great. The sushi tasted great. It’s also a fairly quiet atmosphere compared to the more popular dining areas in DC, but still upscale — I’d recommend it for a business lunch or something of that sort. The staff was also very friendly, helpful and attentive. .and I LOVED the seaweed salad!

Service: The service we had here was impeccable. We had a guest arriving late after their shift in Rockville, and we were edging close to the closing time. Our waitress was visibly delighted when we asked if she could put in an order of a handful of her favorite things on the menu for our late arrival. You could tell that she actually had tried all of the dishes on the menu, and had something to say that went above and beyond the expected restaurant description about each, «When we order this salmon ceviche, I like to order this to come next because they are so different!» At no point in the meal did I feel like she was trying to up sell anything, because everything that came out was fabulously fresh and flavorful. When I finished my cocktail and asked about the rest of their drink menu, she asked very specific things about what I liked/disliked about my first drink and then had specific suggestions from the menu. Sushi: Every piece of sushi we had was delicious. Each piece of fish was fresh, and had it’s own unique texture and flavor – which seems obvious, but I have had so much weak sushi in this town, and it all sort of just blended into this uniform fish + rice + salt flavor, Sushiko was a welcome treat! We ordered so many different plates, and unfortunately I cannot remember their names. Order some of the specials, every special we had was truly worthy of its title. Salmon Ceviche: this was so good. get. in. my. belly. Teriyaki: My mom’s teriyaki chicken plate came with a mountain of tender glazed chicken – significantly more than you’d expect from a restaurant. If you’re ordering sushi and want to round out the meal with something a little heavier, splitting this dish with your date would achieve that. Cocktails/Drinks: No one had a bad drink. If the 4 of us dining, every beverage that came out was delicious: their spicy cocktails, their floral and sweet cocktails, my dad’s sake, even my mom’s iced tea.(You can tell mom isn’t trying to hang with her iced tea and teriyaki, she ain’t got time for that). The drinks are a bit pricey, but the bartenders are fantastic, and one really good cocktail is certainly worth bailing on those rail drinks at happy hour with your coworkers next Thursday. Ambiance: I love, love, love the décor in this place. Every corner had some detailed example of how urban street art can marry elegance. From the bold, beautiful flower arrangements in the hosting area, to the bar, to the curved mural in rounded ceiling in one of the dining rooms, the flow of the restaurant is exciting without being jarring.

This was my second time visiting Sushiko, and the sushi is consistently excellent. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll as well as the avocado crab roll and both were superb. It’s a great spot to meet for after work drinks and a casual group dinner. Alcohol is a bit pricey but the atmosphere makes up for it. Service is excellent too– our server was quick and efficient and was able to split the checks 8 ways which was an added bonus. Definitely will come back next time I’m in the area.

Fresh and remarkable! Sushiko is a magnificent experience. Everything here is of high quality the chefs pay an amazing attention to detail when they’re cutting your fish. It is a whole mind and body experience within the walls of Sushiko. No soy sauce needed although it is provided. It was with the assist of supreme service to delectable sushi that encouraged my decision on making a second visit. I would recommend the Salmon Ceviche to anyone coming to this restaurant who would enjoy a melt in your mouth rich cut of fish that just leave the pallet ready for more. The restaurant has a calming vibe and its chef’s do impressive presentations for the dishes. If you are craving a delicious Japanese meal in DC than Sushiko is your place.

Came here with my friend plus his sister & sister’s boyfriend. This is one of their favorite sushi places to eat at and any excuse to go here like my east coast visit was the best reason to go. FOOD: — Seared Lobster: sauteed spinach, enoki mushroom and creamy ponzu. My friend’s sister ordered this one and got to try a little piece. it was delicious and good amount of juicy Lobster meat. Yums! — Shrimp Tempura: five pieces of Prawn tempura. — Chicken Gyoza: my friend had this one and I really like the sauce you dip the gyoza in. — Jo Sushi: Nine pieces of the chef’s finest Nigiri selection of the day. I can’t remember what fishes were besides the Salmon, Tuna and Unagi(grilled with teriyaki sauce) but all of them were very delicious. Each cuts were pretty thick and tasted fresh so I believe it was worth the $ 30. — Sweet and Spicy Roll: Eel, pickled ginger, spicy Tuna, Avocado, Jalapeño and Kabayaki. Another delicious pick by me. We all shared this roll since I knew I wouldn’t be able to finish it and everyone loved it. Good amount of sweetness and spiciness. The Jalapeño on top gave the spiciness a good kick, not too overwhelming. — Yasai Sushi: Chef’s finest selection of Vegetarian sushi. My friend had this one due to his seafood allergy. Seaweed paper was replaced with Soy paper. I’m not a fan of Vegetarian rolls since I like my meat but this one was an exception. I find it pretty tasty and the vegetables that were used in the rolls were fresh. DESSERT: — Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream: one big scoop! I love Matcha Green Tea and this one was delicious! — Bread Pudding with Green Tea whipped cream and Vanilla ice cream. OHMYGAWWWWD! I wish I ordered this one! #sexytimeinmymouth! SERVICE: Shout out to our server, Victoria for the best service we’ve ever had at a sushi restaurant or at any restaurant in general. She was gracious, knowledgeable and very considerate. My friend has seafood allergy and he wasn’t going to take a chance by having seaweed wrapped around his sushi so Victoria informed us that it could be replaced by a soy paper wrap. It was a big thing for me that she went above and beyond to make sure that my friend is going to be satisfied with his food and still be alive when he leaves the restaurant. Did I mention that it was her official FIRSTDAY on the job and she did an excellent job! She had mentioned to my friends sister that they went through about 3 weeks of training before officially starting their job. OVERALL: This place is on the pricey side. Don’t get me wrong, the customer service is absolutely wonderful and on point, and the ambiance was more of romantic, sophisticated vibe. I wouldn’t mind going back!

I really enjoyed the service, I love when a server knows their cuisine. I prefer Omakase and I have been craving good sushi for the last 7 months since I found myself in DC. After trying one or two spots, I gave up as the quality out here is just unacceptable and greasy rolls gross me out. This place knows what it is doing and it does it right. She used the correct terms for the fish and knew the accouterments. The uni was outstanding, a deep orange red and very tasty and naturally sweet. The rest of the dinner was done right, but I have a personal preference for locally sourced fresh seafood. I like my fish to taste like butter and melt in my mouth, to glisten wetly as if just caught. We were there at the end of the night and I am sure the fish had been in the bar area but it lacked the luster, I know they ship in from Japan. I am not sure how they could not — because there is a limit on fresh fish around here from what I understand. That said, this will now be my go to place for sushi. I trust them. They do it right. The fish, maybe not just caught, is well maintained and thus still fresh, the proportions are right, the taste is very high quality, and that is what matters.

Sushi good. Veggie tempora good. Sauces good. Service good. Just a little pricy… So walked into this place. Had a reservation which helped. Even on an icy day it doesn’t keep people away! They have about one page worth of sushi to choose from. Other pages of apps and other dishes. So I tried the blue crab sushi. Very tasty. There is a good amount of crab in the roll and it was of regular size. Most rolls are 6 – 8 pieces. To compliment my dish, I had the veggie tempora. Cooked very well and a good variety to veggies. Squash, broccoli, beans, yam, etc. Everything was tender with just the right crunch. The sauce was also very good. If I was in the neighborhood I might go here again.

Yesterday we went for the first time to sushi-ko and we had a delicious dinner before celebrating New Year’s Eve! We took two sashimis omakase and it was delicious! The quality of the fish was amazing! They melt in the mouth with a nice variety of fish. Good sides: –the fish! Amazingly fresh, good and nice selection! –the seaweed powder over the rice. Not too much just enough to give a good twist — A warm welcome and a perfect service! For French people like us, we were pleased to see that the waitress did not come every 5 minutes asking us if everything was good. She did her job perfectly but not too much! Two down sides: — They propose a few special fish for New Year’s Eve including Hokkaido uni! Love it and hard to find here in DC but at 7pm the waitress told me that they were out of it??? Already?! I think they should have remove it or cross it out of the menu to avoid big disappointment! — they should teach and tell the waiters/waitresses to present as they bring it to you the kind of fish selected by the Chef for the omakase. Because it was very frustrating to eat(and really enjoy!) without knowing what it is! Bottom line: we will definitely come again because it was such a delectable find in DC area!

This place is super expensive for what it is. Don’t get me wrong, the customer service is absolutely wonderful and on point, and the ambiance hints of sophistication. I really love how sitting at the bar allows for full views of sushi-making. The sushi itself tastes alright. It is definitely upper tier sushi, but for the price charged, it demands to be some of the best sushi ever had. Sake is very good. It goes down smoothly. Water was refilled throughout the entire meal. Dessert was lychee ice cream and bread pudding for two. Both were delicious yet starkly different. Warm, rich flavors contrasting with light, airy, sorbet. Hey, opposites attract! I would only return for a special occasion.
