A great doctor, not only because of his ability to weave magic into human physiology, and change lives, but also due to the collective greatness of his staff.

So, this Dr. is also an oral surgeon. I called the office to see if they accept my insurance. When I asked if a consultation was free (which would answer the question of whether an oral bone graft would be considered medical or dental as well as other pertinent questions related to my prospective treatment), the lady with poor English language skills that answered the phone said that, no, it is not free, and no, she could not tell me the price for a consult… and then she went on to (try) to explain that billing was done through insurance. No shit, really? I thought billing was done through my local dry cleaners.
Who goes into a consult with a mysterious price tag to be announced after the fact? Hopefully not you if you’ve read this.

I am a prior patient and my experience was an absolute nightmare. It is very obvious that Dr. Kung did not have my best interest at heart. When I came back for a follow up appointment months after my initial experience, he just had his staff try to suck more money out of me. Please, do not go here for any type of service. Ask around, check Washingtonian’s list of top docs and get second/​third opinions. I wish I had never stepped foot in this office. I spent so much money here in the past and I know I would have had a much better outcome had I gone somewhere else. NEVER EVER rely on credentials or marketing alone! I initially found Dr. KUNG in the yellow pages and was impressed by his education/​training on his website. Big mistake!

A very gentle doctor who tells you what you’re getting into and explains everything you can expect. He takes the time to answer your questions and does not try to pressure you into a procedure. You can expect Dr. Kung to be focused on you the patient. He focuses on your needs and what you want to know first. Additionally, he has a big heart. Last summer he and his wife travelled to Nepal to provide dental and surgical procedures for people who could not afford such forms of health care.
My orthodontist recommended Dr. Kung to me and he is conveniently located up the road from Dr. Donald and Dr. Christopher Liang’s DC office.
Grace is Dr. Kung as well as Dr. Lin’s and Dr. Kang’s receptionist. The three share the suite and I’ve found Grace to be extremely helpful. She is great with scheduling, but because Dr. Kung is not always in the office due to having to perform surgeries, his appointments are more sparse. I did appreciate it when Grace called me to reschedule me for earlier than my original appointment. The office made a mistake scheduling me for the week that Dr. Kung and Dr. Lin were due in Nepal.
Great clean office. The office front has a really chill and zen vibe to it. There are chimes, a fountain, nice furniture, cool décor, and a plasma TV with ocean movies. I guess when you’re in Bethesda people aren’t kidding with the overhead.
When visiting Dr. Kung you can expect to be lead to one of his state of the art consultation suites. A receptionist leads you in and you can get pretty comfy in the ivory leather chairs. Dr. Kung’s office will offer you water, tea, or other drinks while you wait. You’ll also hear soothing and charming music by Enya and Coco Lee.
Trained as a dentist before becoming receiving further training in plastic and maxillofacial surgery, you can expect to be in good hands. Dr. Kung is professional and is a member of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the American Society of Plastic Surgery. Oh, and did I mention he graduated from Harvard? He also has great rapport with local hospitals like Georgetown University Hospital and Sibley Hospital.
Each time I’ve visited the office I was able to find street parking. However, if you are a Chevy Chase Bank customer there is a parking lot that gives validations for people visiting the bank which is at the corner. I’ve always gotten to Dr. Lin’s very early and the bank was never open for me to have benefited from this. Grace informed me that people park at the Giant across the street and get parking validation from Giant. Supposedly, that only costs a dollar.
The office is in a high rise office building and is a very fitting for a Bethesda office building. It’s also conveniently located near the Friendship Heights metro station. If you don’t want to drive you can just take the red line and walk a block and a half.
I would recommend Dr. Kung even if I weren’t getting surgery from him. But because I do plan to, I’d like to add that he is extremely mindful of his patients financial needs and will do his best to work with people. But also be aware that his consultations range from $ 150-​$ 200. This fee gets deducted from the total surgical cost when services are rendered.
Dr. Kung does not accept insurance but will be happy to provide any codes to help you if you choose to file for reimbursement from insurance yourself.
