Red, Wine & Brew – Chesterland

I have been wanting to go here for months, but don’t make it to the east side too frequently. It’s probably better for my wallet that I don’t live close by! My husband and I were in the area so we stopped in, got some great recommendations from Bill, and picked up a number of new beers and ciders to try. The selection of beers and wines is unbelievable. And they’re going to expand to have food, and if I heard correctly, 24 taps! Worth the drive from the west side.

Large selection of beers from local breweries such as Brew Kettle to anything you can think of. Always very friendly and helpful.
With so much selection you can spend a considerable amount of time in there if you are just browsing.

Great place to get hard-​to-​find and unique beer and wine. Always find something new or fun there. Great, friendly staff who support community events. Highly recommended. Alex and Nicholas were both very helpful.

We held our daughters baptism event here and boy were we surprised by how accommodating and amazing this place was !
We worked with the event manager to book this event last minute because the place we originally had couldn’t accommodate our quests.
I called the day before the event to ask if we could drop off our cake early before church. The didn’t hesitate and aid of course. They put it in the freezer for us.
They had the event on the patio which isn’t the norm but was amazing. The he staff served our brunch and was on the ball with everything. The food was delicious Ana we had a mimosa bar. Our server there was amazing as well. We will be hosting events here in the future.
All the men did gravitate to the couches outside our room and really enjoyed the atmosphere.
Nothing but good things to say about this place !!!

The store is very clean and has a nice layout. There is an extensive beer and wine selection. Ample parking. VERY helpful and knowledgable staff. On select Friday’s, there is a wine tasting that occurs. I only my wish they carried my favorite wine from France.

I stopped in here as I was passing through the area in the hope of finding a decent cigar for the drive. Not only did I find a fine selection (I ended up with a Fuente 8−5−8, BTW) but I discovered a really impressive selection of craft beers and wines from all over. Bill was very friendly and even gave me a tour of the place. If I lived nearby, I would definitely be a frequent customer!

We are never, ever, ever going to another liquor store again. Like ever.
I first learned about this place, from of all people, a professor I had. I live down in Akron, so it is quite a haul up Route 8 and I-​271 just to get here, but it’s always well worth it. This place is massive. There is every kind of wine and beer here I could think of, as well as other party favors. This is a hipster’s paradise. I think the only way they can store so many different beverages here is by making the aisles too narrow for a fat person to walk down, which is fine with me. I’m not fat and I can deal, although with so many amazing beers sold here it might not be that long until I’m too fat for their aisles.
The staff here are always willing to show you around the store. It’s so big: you practically need to have a tour guide with you just to find what you’re looking for. You have to spend 10 – 15 minutes just walking around marveling at their amazing selection. Even if gas somehow ends up at $ 5.00/gallon (it won’t anytime soon), this place can still expect me gracing it with my presence.

This place has to have the largest selection of beers and wines i have ever seen. That said, it’s a bit of a hike for most people being out in chesterland but its well worth the trip considering their massive selection of craft beers. Store was clean and well organized, if not a bit cluttered, but what can you expect for literally thousands of items on hand. Service was good, pricing was pretty fair. All in all, a great choice for anybody looking for a massive selection of alcohol and tobacco.

Red, Wine & Brew is basically a liquor store that carries a larger-​than-​normal selection of wine, beer and tobacco products. It’s located in the middle of nowhere which, for a Clevelander like me (and a West-​sider to boot) means I probably won’t be back just because of the 45 minute drive. My wife and I were out and about doing our annual orchard visit at Patterson’s so we decided to stop in.
Here’s the rundown:
1. Big beer selection. Yeah, they’ve got alot of beer, hundreds if not thousands of beers to choose from sitting on shelves and stocked into swing-​door coolers but it’s definitely a double-​edged sword. I’d be willing to bet that 80% of their beer sales are with 20% of their stock. This brings me to my first concern, shelf-​life. I completely get a place wanting to have a huge selection, but let’s be honest, how long have some of those beers been hanging around on the shelves? I noticed quite a few bottles covered in dust sporting solid yeast cakes. This can only mean one thing, old beer. While some beers benefit from aging, especially the big ABV dopplebocks and imperial stouts, most do not. I can’t really prove my old beer theory as I didn’t bother to check every bottle for a best-​by date, I just got that feeling. My advice, look for a date on the bottle. If it’s pushing 6 months, pass.
2. Can you say claustrophobic? Holy shit, I felt like I was on board a submarine. This place is tight, almost uncomfortably so. It’s built like a corn maze except the corn has been replaced with coolers and shelves. It definitely doesn’t make you want to hang around any longer than necessary and some of the aisles were barely wide enough for a single person. Not built for browsing.
3. Inattentive staff. We walked in and weren’t even acknowledged. There were even two workers standing right by the front door (one was busily staring at a clipboard and didn’t even bother to look up). The entire 15 minutes we were shopping we weren’t approached either. I didn’t get the feeling that we were very welcome or that the people running things wanted to be there. I’m not asking to be hugged but a simple «hello» or «looking for anything in particular» would have been nice.
4. Not shopper friendly. There are a couple of coolers that offer beer for the sale in bottles but I couldn’t find anything available to carry them in while I was shopping. Where the hell were the six-​pack holders? Baskets? Maybe they were hidden somewhere up front. Oh yeah, and did I mention that they’re 45 minutes away from civilization?
5. No clear organization. It was a bit like walking into a library with no card catalog (yeah, that’s a bit of a dated reference) or like trying to put together an IKEA bed with one arm. I think it was organized by brewery but it got a bit sketchy in some spots, especially when it came to the imports. I’m sure alot of it has to do with the fact that they’re located in a closet, but I found the layout a bit haphazard.
6. Overpriced. Like any guy that’s insane for craft beer I’m willing to pay for it. I’ve laid down a pretty penny for a rare beer from Norway or a hard-​to-​find Trappist offering. That being said, when I notice several not-​so-​rare offerings marked 10%, 15% or even 20% over suggested retail I had to take a step back (There were several Rogue XS series bottles priced near $ 5, and they’re 7oz’ers!). Sure, charging whatever you want is the American way, it just seemed excessive here. I was walking a bit funny when I left, that’s for sure.
I was pretty disappointed with my visit to Red, Wine & Brew. I expected more of a Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium of fine beer and what I got was more Hoarders than anything else. Hell, if there had been a fire I doubt I could have found my way out of that place. Sure, they’ve got a nice selection, but that’s about where it stops. It just didn’t do it for me. If you live in Cleveland head over to Rozi’s, Lizardville, Warehouse Beverage or Whole Foods.

Don’t get me wrong – still a diehard Warehouse Beverage fan but dear lord, I just about peed myself the first ten minutes in the door. By the time I finished shopping, I could barely lift my overflowing basket to the counter – maybe a comment on my utter lack of upper body muscles, but let’s ignore that part.
If the place had an adjoining steakhouse, I’d have gone to heaven. As in Ron Swanson heaven.
Cigars, loose tobacco, jerky, pickles, more varieties of beer and wine than possibly imaginable. Specifically, over 2000 beers and 6000 wines. In short, not imaginable.
The place had not one, but THREE ales from Irish brewery Porterhouse. Needless to say, I was smitten.
Only cons: it’s kind of in the sticks (but totally worth the trip), the beers are slightly pricier than say Warehouse Bev or your local brew-​inclined supermarket, and the customer service is a wee bit snarky. Fairly knowledgeable but a tad whippy.
That said, it’s a freaking goldmine of all things bold, flavorful, and quintessentially manly. Definitely worth the trip out for stylish dudes and classy chicks alike.
