First Community Credit Union

I have been a customer here for over forty years and used to brag about First Community. The person answering the phone used to be able to take care of 99% of what I asked about.
This last experience took over 30 minutes with someone who needs customer service training. I hope this is the last terrible experience I have with First Community.

Worse banking experience I have ever had. After pulling credit and checking income I was approved for refinancing an existing loan. The loan officer, Julia, must have been new, because she kept making mistakes and would leave the office to ask other people what to do. I went to first community 5 separate times to get this loan done because she would leave me alone for long periods of time. One time she didn’t know how to get the loan number for my existing loan, so she gave me the phone number to my existing lender and left. I called them and after several minutes spoke with someone and got all the information. I sat and waited for her to return. Finally another loan officer came and told me she was still working on it. I told her I already called and got the information and she could come back and do the loan. After waiting another ten minutes she never returned. I finally left. Next business day they called and denied me! How can I be denied for a loan I already have? Five wasted trips! This isn’t the first bad experience, they also lost a credit card but I thought I would give them a second chance. No more. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. I’m moving my money to another credit union.

I started the refi process on my home on June 5, 2015. It is now September 18, 2015 and I have been through two loan processors and two mortgage clerks. I have had to send my taxes for the past three years three times. The unfortunate thing is — I am stuck. A $ 350 appraisal has already been done at the end of July and if I go elsewhere I would have to pay for another one. This is so unbelievable; so unprofessional and I cannot believe how this organization stays in business.

This bank is a joke, they do so little for their members. If you bank here you can expect nothing in return. Over the last 5 years they have had 2,353 members file for bankruptcy (
), so they are great at helping customers manage money… NOT!!! The lending office has no parameters and does not care if you have a relationship with their bank, I am moving some where that values my business and I would encourage you to do the same!!!

This bank is a serious example of why I use banks like regions instead of local banks, my job is client interacting and I will never recommend this bank to a single of my clients. They lie about loan requirements so even if you have well above the requirements they will still deny you and not only that they will be down right unprofessional and rude about it. If one of my employees acted like they would be let go immediately. Jokes on this bank because I have approval from three other nationally recognized banks! And I will make sure everyone I know especially all my car finance friends know about this and the treatment that was received. How dare you lie and treat people like that, I have only lived in St Louis for two years and where I’m from people are not treated like this anywhere so First Community maybe you should raise the bar and your standards and hire more professional customer faces employees who obviously don’t hate their jobs and people! WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN THIS BANK AGAIN

We recently refinanced our home loan to bring it down to a lower interest rate and pay it off in 15 years instead of 30 (woo hoo). From the start fccu was outstanding! We already have our main accounts with them which made transferring our rate lock in amount and closing cost a breeze! Our loan representative was so helpful and was quick to answer any question we had, including moving up our closing date but keeping it late enough in the month that we didn’t get stuck with a large prorated interest amount. We were able to close at a location convenient to us, which ended up being about 5 miles from our house, not to mention any time she needed paperwork we were able to drop it off at that branch instead of taking it all the way to her. All in all we love having our loan in a smaller credit union, we love that we can call up our rep anytime if we have questions, we love that we can walk into a location and talk with someone about our home loan, and we love that with first community’s help we now pay what we were paying on a 30 year loan but for 15 years. We would have never taken that leap, or even had know where to start if it wasn’t for the willingness and helpfulness of the loan officer there!
