R Garland Dodd Park At Point of Rocks

Great spot for a scenic hike near the river and it’s pet friendly. One great benefit, the police are always patrolling.

This was my 3^rd time visiting this park and each time was for a cookout and we had the same shelter each time. I can’t remember the shelter number but it’s like 2 in one with several tables and benches under the shelters and around the area which is perfect for large family reunions like ours. There are 2 grills for this shelter and a large grassy area that is large enough to set up games for the kids and a dj, or whatever else. There are lots of walking trails nearby but the only issue is the bathroom is a bit of a walk away… some even drove over. The kids play ground is also a short walk away but overall a very nice park and perfect location for large cookouts but bring extra chairs.

This is a great park for just about everything… Baseball field, basketball field, soccer, shelters, kids playground. Trails etc. We had a family reynion bbq here a few days ago… It was perfect except our shelter #1 had bees nests in the ceiling so we were swarmed with bees all day…

I’ve been there a few times and I liked the park for the nice setting just with ample parking (free), football field, basketball court, tennis court, and soccer field along with picnic areas & playground but today I remembered that they have a nice hiking trail. I went there with my baby strapped on me and a little dog. It was a little rough at times because of downed trees after the hurricane but this place is beautiful! Pretty greenery, mostly maintained trail along the river, floating long bridge, benches looking over the water… this has everything you would want in a trail and then more!
I was happy walking the park which many people do (0.7 mile per whole circle of the park, not the trail) but now I know how pretty the trails are, I would go back there daily if I have the time! There are many trails so you wouldn’t be bored. So glad to find this place!

I. Didn’t get to fully explore this park but from What I did experience I can’t wait to go back. Very cute place for pictures, and restrooms are close to the playground. Lots of shade too. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the lack of water fountains in the park area.
