History

Established in 2004.

We wanted to create a car care center that met our high standards. A beautiful building inside & out, comfortable & upscale for those of us who deserve it in today’s hectic world. A place you can relax, a place a parent feels at ease to bring their child, a place to shop for a gift, a place for you. In December of 2004, we opened our doors to our custom designed state-​of-​the-​art facility. Our location is just off Route 17 Chester Exit 126 with easy on/​off. Having a full service car wash with express oil change, a detailing area, the comfortable waiting area complete with fireplace & flat screen television, our coffee bar & the gift shop provides many opportunities to accomplish ones day to day tasks in one location for those too busy or short on time to make multiple stops.

Business Owner

After running Somers Landscape Design and Construction since 1980 in New Jersey, I was ready to do something that kept a staff in one location rather than all over the state. I have a passion for cars and felt a need for a thorough, excellent quality car wash in Orange County where I have lived since 1992. We researched equipment and locations for four years before selecting Chester and building in 2004. We have a great staff and suppliers that allow us to produce the best finished product in the area.

Wife went there for an inspection and was told the car would not pass because lt needed front struts that they were no good l never knew struts were part of the inspection gave her a price I spoke to the mechanic told him I was there about 5 months earlier and ask him to check them he did and said they were fine so I said what happened in such a short time seeing that she drives the maybe 15 miles a week no answer. PS s wife came home with car I took it too another shop and had the inspection done and the car passed manager told me the other shop probably missed it then I asked if struts are part of the inspection to pass I got no answer.

I’m sad to post this review, because I like their mechanics. But, their car wash is terrible.
It was a busy Sunday morning. I signed up for the $ 20 «Win.» I should have skipped the place, entirely. It went bad from the start. The guys up front had a lot of cars to do, and my car wasn’t filthy. So, nobody bothered to scrub the front of my car. Then, going through the automated part, I noticed that half of the the over-​head scrubber section wasn’t working. So, only half of my car got scrubbed. Then, on to the front-​end, windshield and roof brush (you know, the horizontal bar of brushes that is counter-​weighted and is supposed to follow the contour of your car). But, this brush is set too high, so, it only touched the top 1⁄3 of my car, it didn’t even touch my hood or trunk, and only hit the top ½ of my windshield. The rest of the machinery appeared to work properly, but I was already fuming mad, and stopped really paying attention. After the wash, they put on «tire shine.» But the tire shine was basically gone by the time I made it the 3 miles home.
I told the cashier about all of their broken equipment, and that only half of my car was washed. She gave me a blank look and a half-​hearted «OK,» and took $ 2 off the price. $ 2 off a $ 20 wash for only washing half of my car!!! And what’s worse, is I’m sure they kept on using the broken and improperly-​adjusted equipment all day, charging everyone full price for garbage work, and didn’t fix it.
Overall this place provides no value. It looks like it’s being run down, nobody cares to do the right thing, and they’re using low-​quality products on your car. Go somewhere else.

This place was great. Very disappointed now. Been there numerous times. They are lacking supervision and quality. Asked them to make sure they fill wiper fluid. Of course, not done. Questionable if they did what they were supposed to do. Every time I go, they forget something. Been there numerous times. Gave too many chances to correct problems. Refuse to give them any more business!!!

Clean place, nice staff but to pay $ 38 to clean a car (not a suburban… A 4 door car) and to get that job… No, I’m done with this place. I’ve been paying the high price because of the clean environment. Well guess what, I’d like a clean car too. I mean it takes all of 3 minutes to clean the rims. Not like they’re loaded with brake dust. I could clean them with a napkin (like I did). I’d be surprised if they even ran a rag over them. The last 4 times I’ve had to ask for a rag to do it myself. This time it was time to simply walk away and close this book. I’d compare this cleaning to the $ 10 automatic car wash on Rte 17. I’m still debating 3 stars. I wish the people were nasty so I’d feel good about giving them the 1 star they so truly deserve!!!

You have to watch out for the people at the car wash. They will try to upsell you to a more expensive car wash package when you drive up to them.
You wanna get a free car wash? Check with your dealership where you got your car. Most of the dealerships offer a FREE car wash at their location with an oil change. So next time you change your oil at your dealership, ask for a complimentary car wash. I’m sure you will get one… altogether with all the free fluids refills in your car.
I am giving this one 3 stars for service… The Spanish people rushed thru when they dried my car after a wash and left some spots.

overall, they’re pretty good. i usually go for their light cleaning, they go over the dash, get the dust off, and do the windows. but this last time, i’m taking two stars off for the white bird poo they left on the windshield. if i’m gonna pay 14 bucks for a automated car wash, and have it gone over by the drying guys, i’d like them to pay attention to the bird poop on my windshield. that’s basic, guys. otherwise, an entertaining place to get your car looked after, i guess.

Had the works done to my car! and wonderful job!
My cloth seats stain easily, a drip of water and once it’s dried there a spot! Plus my dog is always in the car and they got both things out and the car looked better then the day I brought it home (new to me, not brand new!)

Had both my cars washed here today and they did a terrible job. The workers rushed through everything and it showed. There was still bird crap left on both cars and visible dirt and water marks. Will not be returning here. Too bad I can’t find a good car wash in the Monroe area.

Me and my car are happy here. Once in a while the driers miss some particularly sticky bird leftovers, but overall it’s great service, a nice facility and friendly people. I’ve only used the car wash; never tried the detailing or other services. Oh and PS I love the check — in coupon with Unilocal & FB. Thanks!

This auto spa has the best customer care ever. I love the family feel and the store with all of its nick nacks and novelty items are awesome and well priced. The attendants are super courteous and professional. They check up with about everything so you learn about your car and the services they have for you. My son plays with the little toy table while we wait in front of the fire place watching tv. Yeah, more than just an oil change there.

If I could give this place no stars I would. The manager is rude and doesn’t own up to the mistakes of the employees.
I’d rather take the trip to goshen and wash my car by hand than step foot back in this establishment.

My car came out great — even all the nooks and crannies were clean. But be cautious if your vehicle is standard — I watched my car buck across the parking lot while they laughed. Also the packages online don’t necessarily match the actual packages and prices.

I’ve used Hambletonian Sap a bunch of times over the years and have always been happy, but today I was just WOWed with how great the car came out. Today I got the full spa package with the car wash and full wiped down of the inside of the car. My car had not been washed in over a year and we have a long haired Saint Bernard that comes with us anywhere that we go. The outside of the car looks great, but i’m just over the moon with how well the inside looks. It looks like I just drove off the parking lot. You would not even know that we own a 160lb long haired dog that’s in the car 2 – 3 times a day! I hight recommend this place.

I am so surprised to see a negative review here of the Hambletonian. I’ve been using the Hambletonian for the past five years and I have always found that the services provided were fast, consistent, and skillfully done. All of the employees are gracious and respectful. The facility itself is spotless and bright. The waiting room is comfortable and makes you feel like you’re in your own living room. Overall, great place, great service!

In defense of Hambletonian Auto Spa, I’ve got to say that they are by far the best full service car wash in Orange County. I used to have to travel to Ramsey NJ to find a full service center such as this and since they opened I’ve been going there with complete satisfaction. Add to that the convenience of being able to get most minor services done on my vehicles all in one visit and you’ll see why I consider them the best around.
