I have eaten at this Shoney’s many times and have always been very pleased with the food and waitresses. The one thing that wasn’t up to par was the restaurant needed to be renovated or upgraded. As of 2÷17÷2016 the renovations/upgrades are complete. It is now a brighter and pleasing restaurant to go to. My compliments to the Managers.

Food poisoning. The last time I went to a Shoney’s it was ten years ago. It was great then! However that wasn’t this location and wasn’t now. It’s certainly not great now. Not only was our waitress peeved we opted to not do the absolutely disgusting looking ‘breakfast buffet’, she was short with us and had attitude for days. The establishment was in horrendous condition. I’ve never been in a dirtier eating establishment. There was a painter, in full painters garb, painting with the doors open in the room adjoining to where the buffet is. He was painting within 10 – 15 feet of the food! There has got to be a code against that. This place was beyond dirty, the kind of dirty where you don’t want to even move an inch because of how unsanitary it is. The women smelled of last nights bingo hall booze and Paul malls mixed with White Diamonds. It was unbearable. Our food took ages to finally come out, and of course when it finally came it wasn’t cooked the way we ordered(over easy eggs came over hard). The only good thing was when we asked for our check immediate after the food came our waitress came with it fast. We paid and left. Within 24 hours I was very sick in a way you just don’t want to be. I’m just thankful my child didn’t eat there or she would have gotten sick too.

Gosh I was shocked when I saw these other ratings. I absolutely love Shoney’s. I do think they need to remodel but the food is always good. Don’t miss the Thanksgiving meal that they put on. It is absolutely spectacular. We started going to it years ago. It’s so good. The dessert is always free. See you there on Thursday.

I love Shoney’s! While in Chesapeake on Battlefield Blvd we were trying to find somewhere good to eat for brunch and my friend suggested Shoney’s. We argued for a few minutes because I can’t ever recall there being a location on Battlefield and when we pulled up in front of it, my mouth fell open. So we’ve gone a few times since my initial discovery and I like it. It’s just how it was when I was a kid when my parents and I would go to the location on Airline Blvd in Portsmouth. Breakfast buffet was DELICIOUS the 3 times I’ve had it. Everything was HOTANDFRESH and the items that moved quickly were replenished quickly as well. They have an omelet and waffle station as well. At $ 9.99 you really can’t beat the price and though the Corral has more selection, I’d rather come here because you don’t feel like you’re at the damn zoo. Service was good too. We request Miss Ann.

I have eaten here a few times mostly because it’s a convenient place to stop for a small group of us to have breakfast after getting off work around 6AM. I’ve tried dinner a couple of times as well. I would give the breakfast buffet three stars and the dinner buffet one star, I’ll average that out to two stars. The dinner buffet is pretty much inedible with little attention paid to how long items have been drying out on the steam table. Everything looks pretty unappetizing and tastes bland. The breakfast buffet is okay. I like the eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, sausages and some of the fruits. The pancakes, French toast and waffles have looked pretty dried out and stale on my recent visits. Coffee is good and the service is okay but much of the food just isn’t very good.

I’ve been here a few times. I’ve not been disappointed by the quality of food or the service. The waitstaff have been prompt, courteous and efficient. It’s Shoney’s folk, not Sardi’s.

I’ve been craving the breakfast buffet. The food was good. My husband especially liked the biscuits and gravy. The restaurant is in desperate need of a renovation or deep clean. Also, the food presentation on the buffet could be a little better and is in need of an upgrade(sneeze guards, place to ensure tongs don’t fall in the food, etc.).

Horrible! I wish I could give no stars. Service was okay for being busy. Food was bad. I ordered steak and eggs, my steak was way over cooked and the eggs were under cooked. Same thing with my husband’s food. Plus everything was cold. It seemed that they put a lot of effort into the breakfast buffet but we did not get it because it did not have much to offer.

Damn it! I should have known better then to go here but the lovely wife had a nostalgia moment as when she was a kid she had a Shoney’s that was close to her that her parents took her to on occasion. That Shoney’s closed fifteen-twenty years ago and the nearest one to us in PA is currently 200 miles away. Here me now and understand me next week, after our visit to this one all I can say is good riddance and hopefully they all close because this one sucks. * Wednesday night around 6pm and there are three or four other occupied tables. * We take a look at the salad bar and I figure that because of how dead it is things will be filled right? Hell no wrong! Two of the three soups are all the way down to the bottom of the container with nothing in them except for hard crust. Most of the salad items look old, sad and tired. The only thing I could think of that looked edible was the fruit and that’s only because I saw that getting replenished. * The kid’s menu has minimal choices and nothing can be subbed. Out server told us that if we didn’t like what came with the food there was nothing that she could do about it but we could just take what we wanted for them from the salad bar. I don’t think that you’re supposed to do that but I also don’t think anybody working here gives a crap about rules or standards either. * They were pushing some BBQ Chicken special so we both got it. (It’s not on Shoney’s website) Cole slaw = inedible shit ball of mayo. Beans = Probably nuked and tasted like… nothing Chicken = Aside of one decent breast of white meat the rest was a lot of shizzle & grizzle. Mercifully they’re fairly cheap in terms of price but the food quality is ghastly and the service I guess is passable but still more on the apathetic side. This place is like a sick animal. It can’t be saved and needs to be shot and put out of its misery, immediately!

I had never liked a meal from Shoney’s, but I had to go there very often, because my parents love the buffets that has the seafoods on every Friday. The food tasted too weird or too cheap. The Waffle House makes the better quality foods. Seriously. The customers were too nasty(the workers, too) or too sick and that disgusted me, because they come there from the hospital(it was right across the street). What made me stopped going there? My mom somehow got somebody to hire a sixteen year old couch potato(that was me) to work there. My biggest mistake and I walked out after merely a few hours of work. It was my first ever job and that was bad enough. I had a trainer who was training me to be a bar attendant and she did a filthy job — eating a few shrimps off the plates before the plates arrived at the customers’ tables! That was not all! The other workers in there did a horrible job, too, because they did not care how the meat was cooked, the trash was not emptied until the end of the night(that means there were a lot of food falling onto the floor and left), or treating the sick customers very shitty. My manager told me to close up my one inch stretched lobes AFTER she interviewed and hired me! How the hell can I close up my lobes in 24 hours?! I refused to give up my lobes for a filthy job with a filthy pay. Edited — Nearly 10 years since I worked there, I have not went back to any of Shoney’s restaurants since I bailed out. I am seriously scarred for life.
