Our office has three very knowledgeable doctors and 7 friendly staff members dedicated to fulfilling all of your eye care needs including: comprehensive eye exams, glasses & designer frames, contact lenses, surgical co-​management, LASIK consultations, eye disease treatment (i.e. Glaucoma & Diabetes), treat eye infections, and emergency eye services.

We offer a large selection of designer frames, including BCBG, Coach, Ray-​Ban, Ted Baker, Banana Republic, Kate Spade, Oakley, Carrera, and many more!

Drs. Scott and Lisa Gontarek opened the doors of Gontarek Eye Care to serve the eye care needs of local residents in the Chesapeake region.

Business Owner

Dr. Scott E. Gontarek is a down to earth, caring optometrist who wants only the best for his patients. A native of Hastings, MN, he earned his bachelor’s degree in physiology at Northern Michigan Univeristy. In 1998, he earned his doctorate from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. His first work experience was multifaceted. In Milwaukee, WI, Dr. Scott was employed in a high volume practice, had his own part time practice, and worked part time in a refractive surgery center! Needless to say, he is dedicated to his job!

Dr. Lisa V. Gontarek is an enthusiastic, compassionate optometrist who truly enjoys helping her patients. Raised in Newport News, she graduated from Menchville High School and then earned a biology degree at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA. She got her doctorate at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN in 1997 and stayed to complete a Primary Care residency which included clinical work at SCO and the Memphis VA Hospital.

Great location, in the heart of Great Bridge in Chesapeake, VA. Highly recommend this practice due to it’s professionalism. Staff and doctors are nice, understanding, patient and great at what they do. This practice also has an Optical department which makes it easy and convenient to buy glasses/​frames/​contact lenses. Lori and Rosie helped me and they are saints being how picky I am!

My 11-​year-​old son was fitted with contacts by Dr. Scott. He was great with my kid who has done a great job taking care of his contacts. So I also decided to try contacts and had the same experience. Additionally, I like that Lori, the optician, listed the average cost of new glasses. It’s nice to know what it’ll all cost before I select new frames. Great place!

The doctor was great and they were thorough. Here is why I am giving them a 1. Whoever answered the phone when I called twice gave me different information on my prescription, when it expired, etc. My insurance covers glasses every two years, along with a check up. EVERY other doctor I have been to has honored the 2 year glasses prescription. This doctor’s office will not give me a prescription to get new glasses because I am 1 week past a YEAR since my last check up. The girls at the front desk were very rude, and not helpful. I see I am not the only ones with poor comments about the front desk staff. People don’t need new glasses every year. It’s always been two. Is this place just trying to make more money? Disappointed, go somewhere else.

My entire family goes here. They are fantastic. My young daughter is super sensitive about anything medical and was distraught when she found out she might need glasses following a testing at her school. The doctor and her assistant were extremely kind and patient during the exam. They explained every test in detail. As for myself, I find they really take the time to discuss your needs and explore new options in contact lenses, or whatever you ask about. The office is very clean and modern. The optical department does not have a huge variety of frames, but the people who work it are helpful and very friendly.
I love that they are open til 6 two days a week and offer some Saturday hours. This prevents taking time off from work, and makes it easy to pop in and out to get glasses adjusted, etc.

The only reason I am not rating them 5 stars is because of the front desk person. She has no personality, never smiles, and seems like she’s just going through the motions. Aside from that, this is a wonderful practice. Dr. Lisa Gontarek is friendly, professional, and explains everything to you. The ladies she has doing some of the basic things with you when you first get there are knowledgeable and professional as well. In addition, her optician gals are fantastic. They take time with you and carefully break down the costs for you. My husband has been very pleased with Dr. Lisa and the other lady doctor (he cannot recall her name right now) for years. I referred my mother and she has been pleased with them as well. I have been seeing Dr. Lisa for about five or so years now, even before she was at this location, and I would not go to anyone else.
