We stopped by this restaurant yesterday on our way home to NC after looking on Unilocal for an Italian restaurant in Chesapeake with decent ratings. Once we pulled into the parking lot, we almost changed our minds about eating here but boy were we glad we didn’t! As we were entering the restaurant, a customer was leaving and she told us that we were about to have one of the best Italian meals. She was absolutely correct! There were 4 of us and we ordered the following: Italian Salad, Chicken Marsala, Chicken Parm, and a Stromboli. We also ordered 2 cannoli’s for dessert. Large portions of food were served which is great because we were quite hungry. The food was delicious and was definitely homemade and not frozen or packaged like the chain restaurants. Saving the best for last, I must say the owners were awesome! They were so friendly! It felt like we were just meant to stop here and meet these two lovely people. I wish we lived closer to this restaurant because this would be a regular dining spot for sure if we did!

The salad we ordered had 1 onion ring, and a huge pile of olives… and thats it. Worst salad Ive even had at a restaurant. My wife had one glass of wine which tasted as if the bottle had been open over a week. The main dishes were ok. However, they seemed very plain and could have been cooked at home from a frozen package. The staff was nice though, very friendly and fast with the service.

Great NY style pizza! We were born and raised in NY, and being military we move around a lot. Once we move to a new city, first thing we do is find the best NY style pizza in the area. Frank’s II is the best! If you are close to Chesapeake, VA, it is well worth it!

Well we had high hopes for this place. .. Hoping to find a good Italian place for More than just pizza. We ate here last night. The people were nice enough, the place is ok. We ordered calzone and cannelloni. . The flavor was ok, but for what we got it was way over priced. The calzone had maybe a tablespoon of ham in it and was cold in the middle. The cannelloni was ok, it came with salad and bread. Wasn’t bad, but wasn’t great. . The sale was lettuce a slice of Tomato and slice of onion, very old. .. And watered down dressing. Probably was a good place once. Now it tastes like they are going out of business and are cutting back anyway they can. . Wish it weren’t so. I wish them luck. . but We don’t have money to waste. . Probably won’t go back.

Since we just moved into the area, we’ve been trying to try different restaurants. Tonight was Frank’s II. We has their white pizza, with broccoli, tomatoes and mushrooms. Absolutely delicious! We learned that they make their own mozzarella and, I think, pizza dough. It’s an Italian-owned family business, in business, at this location since 1991. They know how to cook! Look forward to going back to try the chicken parm and eggplant parm!

First time here. We got the pepperoni pie and garlic knots. Garlic knots were delicious. The pizza was pretty good. We had left overs and the pizza tasted better the next day as it wasn’t as soft coming straight out of the oven. Not far from NY style pizza, but not close either. Service was great and prices are good too.

Have been eating at this place for over 10 years… still as good today as the first time I ate there. One of the best keep secrets in Great Bridge! The pizza is delicious, the veal is some of the best I have had, it is consistory good each and every time I order it. Eggplant is also very good. The gravy(sauce) is outstanding, with that sweetness only good gravy has. Most anything you order here is good if you love Italian food. Try it… you will not be sorry.

This is the best pizza in Chesapeake. The service and food are amazing. The ingredients are fresh and authentic. If you haven’t tried Franks, you really need to.

I love Franks! The pizza reminds me of what I get in Ct. The staff is great and the owner is so nice. I’ve been getting my pizza here since I moved to Chesapeake 13 years ago and it’s still fantastic.

Great place for a little place off of a Main Street in small town USA. Thin crust and simple ingredients just like you’d find in Italy! You only taste the fresh ingredients and the thyme ! Zero grease! The music and ambiance reminisce of times gone by and it looks like it is Operated by the owners who might be authentically Italian. Did not try the eggplant dishes but they seemed delicious!

Finally after more than a year after the job moved from Downtown Norfolk out to Greenbrier I’ve found a pizza place that I really enjoy. That place is Frank’s II. We ended up in Frank’s II because we were looking for something different. Don’t get me wrong, there’s pizza in Greenbrier in and near the mall, but I find them generic and lacking. Frank’s is easy to find, it’s located on Battlefield Blvd in the last shopping center on the north side of the locks. This makes a lunch trip from Greenbrier nice because you don’t have to worry about getting stuck in Great Bridge while the bridge is open and possibly causing you to be late returning to work. Upon walking into the establishment you will see the open kitchen area to your right, more on that in a minute, and you can seat yourself anywhere in the large dining room. The furnishings are starting to show their age but it’s by no means bad. I should point out that I’ve had two visits here here now, The first one on June 5th and the second visit was yesterday, June 12. On both visits we sat in view of the kitchen and I have to say I knew I was on to something good when I heard the slapping of the dough as they started to prepare the pizza. I told my co-worker, «look at that, they’re stretching the dough from a dough ball». It’s no fluke either because they did it again on my second visit. The pizza’s are made to order, not pre-stretched and left in a cooler. Very cool indeed. During our first meal we met the owner Frank. He came out and talked to us for a couple of minutes, asking if we had been there before and describing what a NY Pizza should look and taste like. We saw him again at the end of the meal and he asked if we had enjoyed the pizza. On the second visit we met his son who was also personable. He let us know that the original Frank’s location is over in South Norfolk. So five paragraph’s in you’re probably wondering how the pizza was. It was excellent! If I had to compare it to another pizza I would say it’s similar to Granby St. Pizza in Downtown Norfolk. We had a 16 in. pizza on both visits The dough was super fresh and stretched thin in a perfect circle. The pie on our first visit was just a Pepperoni & Mushroom one however on the second visit we pulled out all the stops and ordered a Meat Lovers. The toppings were top shelf and well proportioned on the pies. The slices also folded easily and were easy to manage. One other thing I wanted to point out was that on the first visit we also brought an Italian Sub back for another co-worker and he said it was excellent as well. I didn’t see the sandwich unwrapped so unfortunately was unable to take a picture of it. All in all I’m very happy with this find. The food is delicious and Franks II is only about 10 minutes from Greenbrier so I can comfortably make the lunch run there, eat, and be back right on the 1 hour mark. So if you’re looking for a pizza joint in Chesapeake I just pointed you in the right direction. Check them out!

The best in all of Hampton Roads. I order from here at least once a week because everything is so delicious. Try my favorites: The mozzarella sticks, meatballs, and regular pizza.

Our family went to this restaurant because of the great reviews we read on Unilocal and Google. I must say this is a little hidden gem. The food was really good and the service was excellent. We will definitely return for more excellent food!

We had dinner delivered to our room from this place. The girl taking the order was very nice and patient, helping us decide on our order. The food arrived quicker than expected. The delivery guy was very courteous. The order was 100% accurate when it arrived. The food was hot, packaged well and ready to enjoy. The food was extremely tasty, and hit the spot for us. Worth every penny. Definitely a favorite when we are in the area!

Frankie’s 2 is the best Italian Pizza in Great Bridge with their Italian dishes! I have been in the food service business all my life and Chesapeake pizza used to be better but they switch their ovens took away the stone deck oven and use the conveyor belt ovens which changes the crust of the pizza which is 50% of a pizza. because they did that really hurt their percentage being the best pizza in Great Bridge. Frankie’s too has their father who has been making pizzas all his life and still han pounds every pizza that comes out of that kitchen. he is I believe in his mid seventies has arthritis in his hands from eating pizzas forever and is still rocking them. how couldn’t you love his pizza a true New York thin crust ITALIANA Special, absolutely delicious!!! And the veal Marcela was outstanding and if you just want pasta with a smooth sweet saw with a lotta pasa and bread is to die for aswell… I have put in thousands of restaurants and I have ate at tens of thousands of restaurants and you can’t go wrong in Great Bridge Chesapeake Virginia at the Frankie’s 2 …

I got take-out from Frank’s II tonight for the first time in at least 10 years. Can’t believe I stayed away so long. The spaghetti with meat sauce is just as good as I remember. Huge portion with lots of meat in the sauce. Very good flavor. Tastes like home cooked spaghetti. Also ordered garlic bread, which I loved. Definitely a good experience. Can’t wait to go back.

The hubs and I decided to give Frank’s a shot in our quest for more locally owned eateries in Chesapeake and close to home. I’d read the reviews here on Unilocal and hoped it would live up to the 4-stars, but sometimes I think too many people give too many high ratings to places that really aren’t THAT great(maybe because people don’t have much to compare here in the ‘Peake). For me, it seems to be the case with Frank’s. From first sight as we walked in, it seemed pretty outdated. Once we sat, and then changed tables(because the first one was wobbly), it was pretty obvious this place is in desperate need of a big-time makeover. There’s an awful lot of duct tape on seats and booths. Lots of rust on a lot of the chairs too and many are ripping. Even the ceiling is dirty. Just not very sanitary for a restaurant — certainly not pleasant to eat in. I would love to get my hands on this place. A makeover would do this place wonders! Anywho, on to the more important stuff — the food! We started out with garlic knots. I wasn’t a big fan. I have a sneaking suspicion they’re out of a box and just topped with melted butter(and not real butter either). They were a bit tough and garlic was pretty much nonexistent. Very disappointing. The pizza we ordered, however, was pretty darned good. We liked the crispy crust and the ingredients seemed fresh and there was a nice balance between meat and veggies. We really liked the sausage they use. Could’ve used a bit more cheese, but overall it was a nice flavor. Other notes: service was friendly, if just a tad slow at the end waiting for our check. If they’re really serious about dine-in, they should look at better beer offerings. They offer very few basics and, these days, people are looking for better variety. I think we’ll try Frank’s again, but more than likely we’ll go with takeout.

I got Franks again last night. As usual they were quick to have my items delivered to my door, in 21 minutes this time… and as usual their pizza was fantastic. This time I tried pepperoni, ground beef and extra cheese. I loved the taste of their ground beef and they were quite generous with it. I do think it’d have been a little better with some crunch, maybe onions or banana peppers. I have to mention the two new items I tried this time. Their mozzarella cheese sticks were fantastic. They were large and perfectly cooked, with a good amount of breading. Most importantly they were gooey and scrumptious, just as decadent as artery clogging food should be! And lastly, I tried to order wings but they were out so I decided to try their Combo Steak Sub. It was quite delicious. It had a good amount of beef on it with grilled onions, mushrooms and peppers. There was also a generous amount of cheese and mayo. It was a bit better than their Italian Sub I think and surprisingly re-heated the next day really well. Franks is just fantastic food and the fact they deliver just makes them top notch.
