History

Established in 2014.

One cold winter day Tom and Steve were driving up from Grasonville, MD and received a call about a particular dinner cruise vessel located in Lewes, DE. After pulling over to the side of the road and viewing the pictures of the vessel on the phone, we immediately called the owner to schedule a meeting. At that moment we both said «That boat is perfect»! The next day Steve went to Lewes to look at the boat, and once arriving to see the boat, immediately called Tom and told him that M/V Bay Breeze now has a boat to operate with. That day is when Chesapeake City Ferry Service LLC acquired it’s first boat «M/V Bay Breeze».

Business Owner

Tom Connell, «The Chief Cork & Bottle Washer» which is his official title, grew up in the Chesapeake City area. He worked as a commercial fisherman on the C&D Canal throughout high school. Catching mainly rockfish, Tom supplied Schaefer’s Marine Store with filets for years. After graduating high school, he spent the next fifteen years on the Texaco Tampa. The Texaco Tampa was an 80,000 barrel oil barge which spent her time eighty miles offshore traveling from Maine to the Gulf. After Sunoco bought Texaco, Tom’s career led him to MSRC (Marine Spill Response Corp), an oil spill clean up company. During his tenure of 16 years he maintain the site supervisor position. All the while, from 1993 to 2009, he and his son, Steven Connell, owned a pile driving business, involving the construction of docks, bulkheads, and boat lifts.
