Phil’s Deli & Market

I work next door to Phil’s, so I go there often for lunch. Phil and the rest of his staff are always nice and welcoming when customers enter the store. My two «go-to’s» are the El Capitan Sandwich and the Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad. I decided to go with the salad today, which was as good as usual. They give you a good amount of chicken, which I like. The salad is only lettuce and chicken, unless you ask for additional ingredients. I usually get tomatoes added (although they forgot to add them today, but I’m going to give them a pass today since they have never messed up any of my orders). The El Capitan is easily one of my favorite sandwiches that I have had in the area. Their homemade chicken salad is to die for. In my opinion, if you’re going to Phil’s, the El Capitan is a must!

Sexyman and I visited Phil’s Deli and Market to grab a quick breakfast before a day of fun activities. He’s been there several times so he knew that this would be a good spot for us (he always chooses well… and in every way!). They offer extensive breakfast and deli items (including healthy options) and they have a good sized market inside also. You can purchase breads, canned goods, etc. Really convenient if you’re out of something and you’re in there picking up something to eat/​drink. Killing two birds with one stone is the name of the game, people!
I ordered The Diesel (egg whites, sauteed mushrooms, jalapenos, and gouda cheese on a whole wheat wrap). He ordered something similar but on whole wheat toast. I am still talking about that wrap and it’s days later. I need to order it again for picture purposes. I ate it so fast that I actually surprised MYSELF. They have an area where you can dine in, watch the news and shoot the breeze with other customers, which is what we did.
I hate to discount other Unilocalers reviews, but giving one star due to the owner not wanting to heat up a can of off-​the-​shelf Progresso soup is ludicrous. I don’t ask the cashiers at Rite Aid to wash my hair for me because they sell shampoo. Just saying.
Any establishment that has a hands-​on owner that genuinely cares about his business earns an extra star in my book. Phil is warm, welcoming, and he takes pride in his place. It was a pleasure to meet him last weekend.
Support local businesses and give Phil’s Deli and Market a try. Your local Wawa will be okay with it :)

Great local place. We love their breakfast sandwiches almost every Sunday morning. Lots of great choices on the menu for lunch too. Not to mention they do all kinds of things to raise money for local programs. Skip the big franchise fast food and try Phil’s next time you’re hungry and support a local while having a great fresh meal.

Liking this place; I’ve had the breakfast burrito, have picked up some deli meat to make sandwiches of my own, and lastly I tried the El Captain aka chicken salad sandwich. Nothing bad about the deli meat, pretty standard order (mine was turkey, cheese, and ham) and as far as the burrito it’s just eggs, cheese, and salsa which isn’t exactly an art one must master but I have to say some things about the El Captain…
It’s hands down the best chicken salad I’ve ever had. It’s paired with fresh moz cheese, bacon, and red peppers making its a combo that can’t be passed up. I usually go with wings or pizza on Sundays for game day but from here on out it’s chicken salad from Phil’s and some Herr’s potato chips.
As far as the help I walked in there on my first visit and waited to order as Phil was already prepping food for another customer. Phil greeted me, asked how i was, and told me someone would be right with me to which a younger female met me at the counter about 15 seconds later. After getting my deli meat and moving to the register Phil thanked me for coming in and hoped he’d see me again which i thought was pretty cool. My second and third time in a lady, probably middle age, waited on me and was also very kind.
I’ll give places like Phil’s business before the big chains like the Shoprite deli anytime, just keep that chicken salad fresh and you will keep me as a loyal customer.

I love Phil’s it’s an awesome place to eat. He is usually very accommodating. If it’s not on the menu he makes what I ask for as long as he has the ingredients. And once he gets your face down and learns what you like you can just tell him I want something with turkey the rest is up to you! He loves this challenge and gets creative. I eat here at least once a week, and I recommend it to all my friends!

Upon a recommendation from a friend who’s come to this place pretty often, I decided to check this place out for a good sandwich. Immediately, my eyes were fixed on the ‘Blue Heaven’ sandwich: breaded chicken coated in buffalo sauce, blue cheese dressing, lettuce, and tomatoes. Although it sounded pretty standard, I’m a sucker for anything ‘buffalo’ and ‘blue cheese’; so I went in for the kill…
All in all, it was very SOLID, but nothing spectacular. The aforementioned friend of mine was RAVING about this place; so I guess that could have added to my ‘disappointment’. But the sandwich felt small for what I paid (~6 inches for ~8 dollars), and I wish there were more chicken.
The very next week, I decided to try the ‘Heart Attack’ Sandwich: Cheesesteak, breaded chicken, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and marinara sauce. One could say that this is Phil’s take on the Sanchez from Hoagie Haven (Princeton, NJ). I was motivated to come back here because I wanted to give this place another chance to wow me (and my friend did mention this sandwich in particular; I just wasn’t in the mood for something like this on my first time around). Again, I was pretty underwhelmed. For something called the ‘Heart Attack’, I was expecting a bit more of everything. The sandwich was actually presented pretty neatly, I hardly made a mess while I was eating it, and I didn’t feel terribly full when I was finished. I like to think that we order things like the Sanchez partly because of how awesomely unhealthy it is, how messy it is, and how fat it makes us feel afterwards (whether we’d like to admit it or not).
For now, I have to give this place just a 3 because I really can’t get myself to give this place a 4 until something wows me. And I’m willing come back to find that ‘wow’ item because I could use a break from Wawa…

Buffalo chicken bits are now stuck to my keyboard.
Anyway. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the service and food at Phil’s. I have gotten take out maybe 3 or 4 times, and they are always fast and delicious and it never feels like the food has been sitting out. The bread is so fresh and soft, the fillings are unique and of high quality.
There are places in the area that deliver the same stuff for cheaper, but you can taste a difference in the food and the delivery.
I would rate this 5 stars but the one sandwich I got didnt have that much chicken on it so it made me sad. Otherwise, I will keep coming back!

Thanks Phils! You guys are a GREAT option for those of wanting to avoid the corporate structure of WaWa. Your made to order food is GREAT, and your selection is outstanding!
