Kuzina by Sofia

I usually go to pick up a gyro; I’ve only eaten at a table in the restaurant twice. The reason I pick up a gyro rather than eat in is because the service is ridiculously SLLOOOWWWW. I would eat in when I have a couple of hours to sit around — maybe it’s Greek tradition to sit around a few hours for a meal. The food is pretty good (there aren’t many Greek restaurants in Gloucester or Camden countries), and I would give four stars, but I subtract a star for slow service. Even picking up, I place my order and come back 30 minutes later — they need 30 minutes to put together a lamb gyro.

We arrived ONLY 5 minutes before the official opening time. Restaurant was empty. We sat quietly at a back table. The young woman (who is related to the owner) curtly ordered us to go outside until opening time. The food was ok — nothing special, we have had better. I was given a glass of water with something green floating in the glass. I think it was parsley. I pleasantly asked the waitress (the same young woman who ordered us out) for a new glass of water when she had a chance. She took the glass, and, with a scowl on her face, held the glass up & made a big production out of looking in the glass. Why in the world would I make that up? I was pleasant. I simply asked for a clean glass of water. I sent a detailed letter to the owner, specifically informing them about the unprofessional, rude treatment we received. I included all my contact information in the letter. I never heard from the owner. Obviously they don’t care about customers. That server would not last one day at a successful, popular restaurant. She was miserable, had no professional skills nor any customer service or communication skills. Too bad, there are too many great Greek restaurants in the area with professional, competent, courteous staff. Wrong is wrong. I’m certain that young lady would not be working as a server if she wasn’t a relative. She orchestrated one of the worst dining out experiences we ever had. The owner of Kuzina by Sofia made it crystal clear that they could not care less that customers are treated horribly. There was no concern or attempt to do damage control.

Giving it 2 stars because the service was good. The food was seriously lacking. Not seasoned well at all. Someone in the kitchen needs to taste the food before sending it out. Worst eggplant dip. Bland hummus. Who serves Tziki sauce as a dip? This place does.
Ordered Moussaka as an entrée it was cold, and bland. Bechmel sauce on top tasted like flour. Meat had no flavor. Don’t waste your time here, just go into Philadelphia, there’s plenty of good Greek food there.

Kuzina USED to be my favorite place to eat until their customer service went through the floor, especially during Sunday brunch when ordering from the usual menu. Our order took an hour to get, food was cold, and wasn’t what I originally ordered. When told the meal was bad, owner acted like he didn’t care, still charged is full price, and only offered a mimosa as we were about to leave and get in our car to go home. Also failed to respond to any feedback after. Not impressed anymore.

My boyfriend took me here for Valentine’s Day last year, it was absolutely delicious, I’d go here again in a heart beat.

Had taks out recently, used to love their Gyro platters, but our last order was terrible. We ordered ahead, was told it would be 20 mins. I arrived 25 mins after we phoned in the order and they hadn’t even started making the order. So I thought, ok it will be fresh. Got home opened it up fires were soggy, meat was xroed out and the pita bread was stale. Wong be ordering there again. We suggest you avoid.

My co-​workers and I use to love Kuzina (circa 2014-​early 2015) however the last three visits have been a disaster with delayed service and forgotten orders (unacceptable!). After a six month hiatus and multiple meals at Estia (love love) we attempted again to give Kuzina a try. We got to the restaurant which was empty (but was early 11:45 am) was seated and while reviewing the menu a lone diner arrived. After a few minutes I noticed the lone diner already had water and was placing his order (we had yet to receive water). We finally placed our order with one in my party ordering dolmades as an appetizer and requested the bacon which comes with the salad be crispy. The remaining orders were all cold salads. After about 5 mins I noticed the lone diner had his salad and another 5 – 8 mins later he had his entrée. My table was still awaiting our appetizer while the lone diner had completed his service. Granted there were three of us but our meals were all salads (no cooking involved) the lone diner had a salad and hot entrée. I asked the server about the dolmades (15 mins after our order placement) and was told they were coming. Well they did show up at the same time as our salads! The crispy bacon on my co-​workers salad looked like burnt pan drippings and in total equated to less than one piece of bacon. In addition the couscous in my salad was stuck together to the point I was able to pick it up which meant it was either sitting in a pan all day or not freshly prepared (the couscous salad was the special of the day not some obscure menu item!). I have never left a poor tip but the lack of concern from our server when I expressed the displeasure of the service and food left me with no choice. If you are thinking of a good quality greek meal go to Estia! Never will I go back here!

My wife and I went on a Tuesday for dinner. We ordered skordalia and hummus. The skordalia was quite tasty, the hummus as advertised on the menu was house prepared but was the least appetizing I have ever had.
I ordered mousaka which was very good.
My wife ordered the chicken kabobs which were tough and dried out, almost impossible to cut with a table knife. They didn’t appear to be burned, possibly they were held in an oven.
At no time was the restaurant busy two pleasant and alert servers were on duty, but there was no sign of a manager or an owner. When we complained about the chicken there was no offer to either refund or replace it. We were offered a free dessert, unfortunately it too was dried out, baklava falling apart.

Love this place. My wife and I frequent Kuzina for lunch. Food is great and servers are nice.
Only suggestion is that they put the house salad on a small plate as opposed to the main plate. It makes the fries and pita soggy!
Wish I could give it a 4.5.

How should I put this… You MUST to try this restaurant.
This was our first visit to Kuzina. The parking lot was crowded, tight, busy, and full. The strip mall is old, dingy, and a bit of a dive. We waited in the foyer and began to wonder if we were invisible before anyone acknowledged our presence. Once our waitress took our order, she disappeared. It seemed to take forever, but when our food came, and yes it did eventually come, it was down-​right amazing.
I recommend being 100% certain that you have ordered everything you want while you have your waitress’s attention, you will not see much of her afterward. And, I also suggest being prepared for some dinner conversation and ordering a couple appetizers to share; one could starve to death waiting on entrees. But do not lose faith. There is a very good reason for the dozens of Zagat logos on the front window. It is the food. Whether you are looking for home style Greek comfort food or something more modern, Kuzina is the place to go in the Phillyburbs for authentic Greek cooking.
We drove 30 minutes to try Kuzina, passing 2 other well known Greek/​Mediterranean places on the way, and will certainly do it again.
No liquor license. BYOB.
It is a little bit pricey. Although you could certainly eat for $$, I’m giving Kuzina $$$. 3 entrees and 2 appetizers cost us $ 118 after tax and tip. We did tip 20%. At first, we thought about reflecting the slow and inattentive service in the tip. But, then we considered that it was in fact the waitress who brought us this amazingly awesome food, and all was forgiven. And, in her defense, she was covering way too many tables. Maybe they were short-​handed.

The owner was hosting and completely rude. We asked to be seated outside and he rudely and hesitantly arranged 2 large tables for 4 adults and 3 children.
The server made it up for his boss. He was super nice and professional. The food was great.
I strongly suggest they keep the owner behind scenes.

It’s byob! Their app spreads are delish as well as salads and other hot apps. Entrees are big portions and very tasty. My lamb shank was amazing, as it fell right off the bone with a fork. My friends enjoyed their meals too from fresh fish to gyro. We were impressed and delighted. Unfortunately their desserts need work. None of it was any good or fresh. Too sad because bad dessert really does spoil an entire meal. And now I know not to order any next time. Service was great. The girls were attentive and we even had some special service by the chef and owner. Thank you!

This has become my favorite Greek restaurant in the area.
I keep forgetting to come here, but I will make a point to visit more often.
I’ve been to some of the finest Greek establishments in the area and I find Kuzina to be the best of them all.
This weekend, I had the Pastitsio w a side of lemon potatoes and it was very flavorful and generous proportion.
Also, the goat cheese you get as a dipping sauce has the best spice kick. I could go there just for that alone.
I know a Greek place is good when I see other Greeks eating there. I’m not Greek. Just a fan of the food and partying.
Highly recommend Kuzina.

Kuzina by Sofia is amazing. The food is absolutely awesome & delish. Chef Sofia & staff are wonderful & friendly, and the atmosphere is upbeat & warm. We felt like family, & look forward to visiting again.

Small but comfy room with a good crowd on a Saturday night. Went with a friend and we both liked the food a lot but I thought the service left a bit to be desired. We walked in the front door at 6pm. No host station, you’re just standing in the middle of the crowded dining room for several minutes before the owner finally comes over to greet you and then walks back to grab a seating chart after we request a table for two, hmm. After finally being seated, we sat for a couple of minutes before a server finally came over with menus and water. Server was friendly and fairly attentive for the rest of the evening. I think those moments from entry to seating to greeting are important and this place really fumbled the snap on this one and didn’t seem to care much.
The rest of the night went well and the food was very good. We started with two appetizers. The home made hummus was was creamy and delicious. We also ordered a hot shrimp appetizer in a tomato based sauce sprinkled with feta. A zesty dish with big, impressive shrimp.
As for main courses, my friend went with a traditional Greek chicken dish and had nothing but good things to say about it. I’m a sucker for lamb shank on any menu and I thought the restaurant did a nice job with this one. One small complaint is that my entrée came with a Greek side salad and I think a Greek restaurant should be able to do much better than this one. Iceberg, no stuffed grape leaves, no anchovies and a paltry sprinkling of feta cheese. Come on guys, you’re a Greek restaurant!
Overall the dinner was fine and I would go back based on the strength of the food but this place does have to straighten out its service situation.

While dining at Dolsot House next door, I was always curious about Kuzina by Sofia because there was always a crowd. We decided to come on a weekend for lunch and it wasn’t too busy. We stood at the door for a few minutes before they finally sat us down even though one waitress acknowledged us and walked by us, and another waitress finally got menus to sit us down at the table right by the door. It felt like forever before we got any service after that, or we would have to grab the waitress in order to ask for anything. It was really frustrating. We saw another table come in after us, get seated, and got their order placed and served almost immediately. I don’t think we had ordered anything complicated, and it was only two of us, but we just did not feel the service was there. They also didn’t have the lamb gyro we initially ordered, so we had to get the lamb souvlaki. Whatever, fine.
Another issue I had was that the salad with the dressing, pita, the meat, and tzatziki sauce were all on the same plate and getting mixed in with everything else. The oil from the salad was mixing into my pita bread which made it a little soggy. Ugh. The food wasn’t all that great in my opinion.
So for us. we received horrible slow service (all I ask is that I don’t have to go hunting for you to get what we need). didn’t get the food we initially wanted. taste was ehh. Would not come back. I really wanted to like this place.
Sundays, they serve brunch from 11−3pm.

This place is wonderful. I was in the mood for Greek and decided to stop by Kuzina since I pass it often. When we got there, they were pretty busy for lunch. We stopped for lunch and the dinner menu seems much more extensive but I was happy with the choices. There was still a lot to choose from.
I had the eggplant spread with pita for an appetizer. It was awesome and very flavorful. My friend got the hummus which was also good. She got the falafel and gyro sliders and seemed to enjoy them as well.
For me I got the moussaka which was out of this world. I wish I hadn’t finished it all so I could have had more. Mine came with a salad in balsamic with some goat cheese which was good. My platter also came with a side of white beans.
My friend and I sat there for a bit after we finished eating and they continued to serve the never ending trail of people coming in for lunch. The wait staff was polite and attentive. They kept out glasses full even after the bill was paid. I loved it and will definitely be back.

Came by for lunch in a party of three during the week. Kuzina was not busy, but we were seated at a table in front of the window into which heat and sunlight were pouring. That is to say, we were slightly blinded and roasted during our meal. We could have asked for another table but for whatever reason chose to endure. Also the chairs are country club, dining hall chairs.
I shared the spanikopita appetizer with my brother. These spinach & cheese filled flaky triangles came out piping hot, just as described in the menu. Mm, I love spanikopita.
Then my gluttonous side kicked in. I ordered the soup of the day, which I don’t recall but really enjoyed. I also ordered a traditional gyro. It was very tasty, of course, especially thanks to the fresh grilled pita. It seemed odd that the gyro was accompanied by fries, but I guess what else would they serve?
Overall I was sated but not bowled over by awesomeness. I’d like to return to try other dishes perhaps during dinner– Because the service is really solid. We witnessed an absurd customer ask questions about every single thing, make ludicrously specific requests about separating items on the check (btwn 2 people!), bully her waitress, and insist on taking a lot of extra pitas free of charge. This creature was handled smoothly, and we were impressed.
