Sushi was delicious and the server was delightful. Small and quaint but in a intimate way. You literally can’t pick a bad dish here. We will definitely be back!!!

A nice sushi restaurant with a good atmosphere, we enjoyed the sushi rolls and seaweed salads, but the soup was of slightly lower quality, overall a good place, and hopefully I will visit here again.

This place is extremely under rated! It’s an elegant and intimate place that sells delicious fusion rolls. I love and eat sushi like it is my second nature but I had NEVER seen/heard of anyone torching their rolls! How awesome is that?! I had the pleasure of trying one today, Amakara 1, and it was everything I thought it would be. The smokey ness from the torch really comes through and that just adds another dimension to the already tasty sushi. I also had the Cheektowaga roll. It was spicy! They make their own sauces, which I can definitely taste the effort in. It is extremely balanced and flavorful. I’m hoping to come back and try the rest of their rolls! I definitely recommend you come check it out because it is nothing like you’ve ever had before.

Went to check it out last night with a good friend we were pleasantly surprised by how big it was inside. The menu had a large variety of food to get but it was lacking one of my favorite pieces of sushi. I usually get crunchy spicy tuna and crunchy spicy salmon… they had the tuna crunchy spicy but not the salmon it was just spicy… both rolls great! The waitress that we had was lovely she was very helpful and nice… and we asked her quite a few questions about the menu and she was able to answer them all and explain stuff to us. I gave it 4 stars for 2 reasons: 1) the pop came in bottles and were $ 2.25(this is just a pet peeve of mine if you have a sit down restaurant you shouldn’t be selling your pop out of a bottle unless it’s for take out!) 2) the price of some of the food seamed a little bit higher then at other Japanese sushi houses but I get it they got to make a living

This place is a little pricy. I did however fall in love with just about everything I tried. I mean, they have rolls named after super Heros… Does it really get any cooler than that??!

I cannot say enough nice things about this place. Our waitress was so friendly and very patient in helping us pick out what we wanted to have. The food was high quality and beyond delicious. The restaurant was spotless and very nicely decorated. We went last weekend and now we are hoping to go this weekend. Great restaurant!!! I highly recommend it.

Eel Don is bad. The sushi rolls are mediocre. Overpriced. Won’t go there again.

One of the best we have been to. The staff is extremely attentive and explained the various menu options for us. The food was prepared quickly and was delicious. We will return and highly recommend it to everyone.

Long time coming. Now I’ve been here about 5 or 6 times and each time I have had a great experience the food was great and the service was excellent, and the atmosphere brings you all the way to Japan. This most recent time me and my fiancé ordered to go and what we ordered was the dragon combo platter an order of California rolls and two orders of gyoza, two beef and two vegetable. The customer service was great as it always is but this time I ordered to go and I never checked my food before I left… Needless to say that was a mistake on my part because the forgot two orders one of each of the gyoza. I called back to advise of this mistake and they first say the chef believed he had put it all in there but they double checked just to make sure and the chef admitted to forgetting the orders and told me they would be ready if I wanted to come back so I did. When I arrived back at there Union location they immediately apologized and gave me my order as well as two orders of this other sort of dumpling thing vegetables as well as a token of ther appreciation of our business and as well to say thy we’re sorry for forgetting my order. I was very happy with the turn out of this I have no complaints with their business in always satisfied and love the location a as well as the ambiance thanks Sakura.

Good experience. When my girlfriend asked my for some sushi, I took her to that place because it was close enough from us at that moment. I risked because I didn’t know what to expect from that place. Fortunately the restaurant didn’t disappoint us: the food was fine and quite unique, the atmosphere was hospitable. The food I ordered wasn’t overpriced at all.

No. Never again. I got the salmon teriyako bento box for dinner. They did not de-scale the fish… who does that? The service was decent but I always wonder if the quality is there when I’m served Japanese food by Caucasians. Having been raised in Toronto, quality Jap food is a dime a dozen back home. Even AYCE sushi places that have mediocre sushi(because of that all-you-can-eat price tag) has better food than this a LA carte location. Plus the prices here are RIDICULOUS for what you pay for. Go somewhere else! You’re better off buying supermarket sushi at Wegmans…

Very clean quiet(but i did go at a random time on a wednesday) food was good a little small portioned for the price but thats japanese food everywhere, the sushi was very fresh and the roll was very good. Their service was a little bit tooo attentive where i wasnt ready to order and they came around twice and i felt rushed but again there were about three tables including us so they were just being nice overall good experience and good food

When you walk into Sakura you are usually greeted by the most beautiful face, and that face is named Nancy. Nancy is the warm And welcoming half of the dynamic duo who own Sakura, and her husband is the chef. When Sakura first opened, pre Unilocal!,my family and I used to dine there maybe, twice a month. They have received great reviews in many local news sources and have a customer recognition wall-of-fame in the front of the house. I am so happy for Nancy and her husband(I’m so sorry husband but I cannot recall your name right now) for enduring as long as you have in such a uncertain market. I recently went back in for lunch after having been away from home for several years and to my total surprise Nancy remembered me. Not only did she remember me, but she remembered what I Used to order, the Amakara 2. So I ordered the Amakara 2 because how could I not? It was exactly the same and I loved it. Sakura has: Outstanding service Wonderful sushi A solid beer/wine/Sale menu A great location A beautiful interior with adequate seating Clean restrooms Tons of parking Reasonable prices And most importantly, owners that care about their customers. There’s nothing in Cheektowaga or surrounding areas that even comes close to dine-in Sushi/Japanese. This is a nice, quiet, elegant-yet-understated, Japanese restaurant for adults to relax and enjoy a nice meal. If you haven’t been there yet, you should go right now. Like, for real. Get going.

The sushi is alright. For their special roles I think they out on too much sauce and for the price of their other dishes the portions are kind of small. Now they are small in relative terms to other Japanese style restaurants I’ve been at in western ny but good enough size for a person. It’s a good spot for a quick sushi style lunch or din er but leaves much to be desired for.

For those who dont know what good sushi is supposed to taste like, this may be the best sushi restaurant in buffalo but if you are from NYC or CA& you know what real sushi is supposed to taste like, this is not where you want to have your meal. Just go have some buffalo wings elsewhere.

There were so many fusion sushi rolls to choose from. The bounty roll is excellent! We also had both the chocolate mousse and a coffee flavored truffle. I couldn’t decide which one was better. So good! Will definitely go there again when we are craving sushi.

This is the best sushi in WNY, just want to get that out there. Awesome menu, creative specials. I’ve been here more than 20 times. Lunch, dinner, everything. Get ready for a pun. The heat on some of the dishes can vary wildly much unlike the heat in the building which is always lacking. It wasn’t a pun was it? I truly don’t get puns. About ½ the time I get a Joey(great appetizer), it’s way too spicy. And dining here in the winter involves keeping ones coat on. But really, great sushi in WNY and I’ll be going back for ever and ever.

Holy vegetarian rolls batman! I didn’t know what to expect when I came to eat here for Local Restaurant Week, but it wasn’t 8 vegetarian rolls! Since I’m pescetarian, I came here for sushi, but I’ll definitely be back to try out these other awesome looking vegetarian fare options on their menu. The prices at Sakura are definitely competitive to other sushi places around the Buffalo area. I was set on trying their LRW special, the Tulip, but Sakura’s lunch specials are eye catching and, as stated, I’ll be back to try them out. As far as what I had on this particular trip, the spicy kani tempura was amazing. It was small and made for just a few bites, but that was perfect. The crab mixture was flavorful and the flash fried tempura was light and crispy. The Cheektowaga Roll was more than I expected. I definitely suggest going there for LRW and trying it out. It’s not something I would have normally ordered, but the Cheektowaga Roll was so delicious, spicy, and is a lot more filling than it appears! The fresh fish and avocado are chopped in uniform so it’s easy to pick at and eat slowly, which probably helped fill me up as quickly as it did. I’m such a fan of it, I’m glad I tried it! Finally, I got a dessert with this LRW special. I’m not really a dessert person, but I went for the Coppa Mascarpone. Much like the Cheektowaga Roll, nothing prepared me for this. It was fantastic! It tasted homemade, so I’m definitely curious to try some of their other desserts when I go back. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. Our server was Nancy and she was on top of my water refill(the food had the slow-burn spicy), had the food out in perfect succession, and was very pleasant. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Hubby and I came back to Sakura for our fourth anniversary. Still awesome. He had the regular sushi combo and I had the yellowtail set and a spicy salmon roll. I didn’t mention the dessert in my last review because my visiting friend and I didn’t get any. The dessert menu is strangely Italian, with lots of bombas and coffee-flavoured parfaits. The server recommended something that was not on the menu, which was tempura ice cream. This is a big ball of coconut or green tea flavoured ice cream wrapped in a crispy doughy tempura layer, and drizzled with a bit of chocolate syrup. Hardly genuine Japanese, but fun and unique and very satisfying. Skip the Italian stuff and go for this.

My girlfriend and I stop in here quite often for lunch. The staff is very kind and knowledgeable. They are always ready to give a suggestion if you are new or unfamiliar with a dish. The menu is simple and to the point. The sushi is especially delicious, and I recommend those who have not had Japanese try out one of the bento boxes, as they are great introduction to different flavors present at the restaurant. Overall, this is a great place to stop and have a quiet lunch with some friends.

First if all, I’m not from here and I never post anything on Unilocal but I was so mad at my dinner I had to post something here. I can’t believe this place gets 4 stars. I ordered a Salmon Terriyaki combo box. My salmon was dry covered with tons of soggy onions. My sushi roll was poorly wrapped and falling apart. And my «vegetable tempura» was 3 fries, 2 pieces of breaded eggplant, and a halved vegetable eggroll that I ate with hesitation. The salad was gross. I can’t believe this box cost me $ 23. I could get a bento box anywhere else for $ 10 cheaper and it would be 500 times better than this. I’m so upset.

Excellent sushi, calm environment, superb service! I had the Andy roll and ordered another just to take home with me for dinner as it was that delicious! I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to try out a new sushi place and is around the galleria mall area! You will not be disappointed!

I’d give it 6 stars if I could. Right by the Galleria Mall. Kind of tucked away off Union Rd. but I’m glad I spotted it when looking for for some food in the area. The portion was kind of small for the beef teriyaki. But the flavors were amazing. We had the lobster crunch roll. Excellent!!!
