Mercury Cab

Shady! DO not use these people. Charged $ 20 to go 2.3 miles. Tried to pay with a credit card and the guy swiped it 3x’s and wouldn’t go through because the card had a chip and he forgot the device at home. I had $ 13 in cash so the guy immediately took it. When I checked into the hotel i mentioned my issue with the front desk and he said that he hears all kinds of crazy stories about that cab company. Next time I will walk from airport to hotel.

My friends and I called for a taxi for eight people. The vehicle that showed up did not seat eight which caused us to sit in people’s laps. Our fair ended up being $ 55 to travel three miles. The drivers don’t run the meter either so they can charge more. We took another cab company home and paid $ 24 to travel the same distance.

We are so happy with Mercury cabs today. After an uneventful trip from airport to hotel with a courteous, pleasant driver, my grandson realized he’d forgotten a little bag in the cab with his ipod & kindle inside. He was very upset. (Us too.) I called the cab company. The dispatcher, a manager, & the driver himself all worked to get the bag back to us in record time. The driver was gone before we could get downstairs to tip him, but I hope he knows he made a young boy very happy.

Mercury and Millenium are the two main cab services in town.
Mercury charges a flat rate which is, unfortunately, extortionately and fluctuating, and up to the driver/​dispatcher.
Example: Mon night, we took a cab from just over Walnut St Bridge, picked up the Walgreen’s on Frazier/​Cherokee corner, to the bottom of Signal Mtn. Note– our driver was nice and agreed to stop at the BiLo real quickly so we could get stuff for dinner (we were super quick but that was really cool of her) and the whole ride was $ 16, and. Tues am, we got a Mercury cab from same BiLo parking lot to the downtown courthouse, also $ 16.
Thursday night, I needed a cab from downtown back to the bottom of Signal. The driver/​dispatcher wouldn’t quote it before I got in the cab, but I expected it would be the same $ and he didn’t tell me till a few blocks it would be $ 21. I tried explaining about the two previous rides– two days before, mind you– and he got agitated and defensive and said that was irrelevant, etc etc. He pulled over and started yelling at me. I said, fine, I will call another taxi as he was threatening to call 911 (I said fine, I haven’t done anything, and put him on speaker so my friend could hear him, as I was looking up the other number).
I later learned this is common practice, that Mercury plays fast and loose with city ordinance rules on everything from the pricing to what they charge for extra passengers etc.
Again, no, thank you Mercury. Millenium to the rescue!

Crazy Mercury cab driver tried to pass me 3 times on a 2 lane road through a neighborhood. This crazy driver should not have a license let alone be allowed to drive the public around in a cab. will never use again.
