Specialties
Dine in at our small but friendly restaurant, or have us cater at your party. We specialize in veg. and non-veg. catering for parties, (Maharastrian, South-Indian, Punjabi, Gujarati etc.) weddings and all occasions.
History
Established in 1994.
Bharati Gholkar and her mother Shanta Welling came to the valley in mid 80’s and started catering from home.
In the early 90’s they opened up their own space in a small strip mall in Chatsworth called Prasad, mainly for caterings and our customers kept coming in for food on the go. In the mid 90’s the growth of demand for freshly prepared meals took them to a full restaurant in Canoga Park. This is where the name Mother India Restaurant first took hold. They both retired in 2005 but catering demand continued and Bharati could not say no.
Shanta is still retired and relaxing at home and Bharati has opened up again in our new location.
What started out with selling batches of Samosas to local Indian grocery stores has grown into so much more. In the past twenty years we have catered thousands of small parties and even events as large as 6000 people with three meals a day across the country.
We look forward to serving you time and again…

Bharati G.
Business Owner
Bharati has been feeding people professionally for over 20 years. Her passion for cooking came as a child in India.
She spent all of her childhood and most of her adult life learning from her mother Shanta. Together they have catered for small groups and even large conventions of thousands of people.
Her style of cooking is based at home, and tastes like home. Over the years she has developed a mastery of various cuisines from all over India.
The restaurant is a reflection of her talents and does not limit itself to any one cuisine, but many of them.
Come in to try something different and get a broader taste of what India has to offer the culinary world.
