Chatsworth Branch Library

WORST place to study. I was hoping to get in a good couple of hours, but it felt impossible. It is extremely loud for a library and pretty small, the voices echo through the place and you can hear every little thing. Lot of homeless people try to talk to you as well, never going here again.

It’s a good basic library however there are huge flaws. One is it’s right next to a middle school so if you go right after the school day ends to maybe 5, you will have a ton of middle schoolers hanging out in front, parents are parked waiting for their kids, and they can be loud inside. The other is their DVD and CD selection available is a bit outdated.
I would have given it 4 stars but I am giving it 3 instead. While this may not really be this branch’s fault, something is annoying. I had to request a book from another library which required a special order. I was told I should have the book within a week and to call the library in a few days to check on the status. It didn’t arrive so I did what that clerk said. The librarian or clerk was basically just saying she cannot do anything to speed it up and that it was in transit. Getting something delivered can take 3 weeks.
The parking situation here is fairly decent and you can get street parking nearby should you need it. Layout here is good as well.

I’m really pissed off about this. I had recently checked out around 8 CDs to have on a road trip. I know for a fact I returned all of them to the return slot in the parking lot. When I went to check online my return status, it said 6 for returned. I just figured later they would scan the other 2. Eventually 1 of the 2 got scanned but I kept seeing that 1 is still «checked out». I called up the library to tell them that it was returned but that a clerk either put it on the shelf not scanning it, or a clerk did something with it. I was told on 1÷16÷15 that they would list it as lost and that they do a search for 45 days on it. I thought they would have taken it off my account but it’s still listed. I’m not paying for something that the library lost.

Great location, it’s not the nearest to my house, but I go here just for the atmosphere. There are usually small kids, but not too loud. I came here to print out some papers, and was the loudest one there. There’s an elder lady at the front who is so polite and helpful.

Remember when libraries were quiet? Here; not-​so-​much-​/​Kids run this branch with very little respect to the patrons. The staff, though mostly friendly, have an «is what it is» attitude that is frustrating when you have to take it upon yourself to ask children not to run, or not to shout.
The courtyard of the library is filled with loitering children awaiting pickup from parents who work til 5 or 6. Overall, if you are coming to pick up a book, CD, or DVD then awesome, but then get out! Coming here to study in this environment is just no longer possible. Woohoo LAPL!
Also, the WiFi is slower than molasses.

I came here to get my library card & to see what this library has to offer. The employees are very helpful & nice. One of the employees clearly explained to me the L.A. Public Library system. I love that. They have a wide selection of movies. I love the building. Very serene & quite appropriate for the area. The parking isn’t tooo shabby.

The Chatsworth Branch is a bit further away from my house. But when I’m in desperate need of a certain book or DVD I know they have me covered. I love the layout of the building. Its incredible what a large selection of books they have (Duh! Like they should) but their patrons seem to donate very good book titles and brand new movies. Their foreign movie collection is very extensive. I usually call in advanced to check if the items I’m looking for are available; 8 out of 10x’s they usually are

The Chatsworth library is wonderful. I can honestly say that it is one of the best libraries for la county. It is extremely clean and the staff is very friendly. The one negative I can see is that it is a small location so limited seating and power outlets. But other than that it is a great place to come too.

I’ve been to a couple of libraries and this one is my favorite so far. It’s pretty big compared the the Canoga library I’m use to.
What I really like about this library is they have a good selection of books. They even have some newer books which is always a plus.
It was pretty busy when I came by around 4pm on a thurs.
My only compliant is that the parking lot is kinda a hassle, because the spots are really small even my compact car was a tight squeeze.

Great selection, friendly staff, awesome CD collection and a pretty quiet place… And yes it’s next to a school but honestly if kids are going to the library and reading, Doing homework and not out in the streets. I don’t mind it. Doesn’t get sweaty. it’s very clean. And so are the restrooms. They have events where kids watch movies and some readings aswell. Signing up for a library card is easy.

OK, I’ve been in this library before and was always non-​plused, but after today, they’re heading in the wrong direction. The library is small and only has a few books, so the selection is nothing impressive. It’s clean but since it’s close to a high school and elementary school, you get there at the wrong time, you’re in trouble. But today was the worst experience we’ve ever had. I brought my son there to help him move forward in his library reading program, got his free book bag and is just a few stars away from getting his free book. We got there late, so we didn’t have much time to look. But when it was time to leave we were being rushed out like the president was about to make an appearance and they needed to clear out the library. But even before that I spoke to one of the librarians who was very impatient. It seemed like everyone just wanted to get the hell out of there and we were just in the way. My wife was especially offended by the poor treatment. Be leery if you’re there when they have to close, you may just get crushed in the stampede of employees heading for the exits.

I love this library, after living in Simi Valley and hearing about how our library might be going private. My friend and I decided to go to the LA branch for books. The building is lovely and people great… plus there is alot of books from this branch I can just pick up and read!

The remodel is beautiful. I went into the library for the first time the other day, haven’t been there since junior high! I was suprised, i remember there being more books when i was younger, perhaps it was cause i was smaller and the world so huge. There were people of all ages there, on the computers, reading books, hanging out. i forgot how much i loved the library!
I check out three movies every other day, and it’ll never get old because of their huge collection. Thanks Collin for introducing me to the chatsworth library again!

Though I liked the old Chatsworth library, this one was worth the wait. Clean, open, quiet (except around 2:30 — 4:00) with a friendly staff and thousands of books. I write here all the time.

This branch is particularly close to my office, and I come here on my lunch break some time. The staff is very friendly and always helpful. I really like the facility also. They are open until 8 on certain days during the week and open on Saturdays.
The one thing I really like about Los Angeles Public Libraries is their website and database of downloadable content. They have audiobooks and ebooks for your eReader or Kindle.
The public library will always hold a special place in my heart.

Eh. This library has the distinction of being next to both a high school AND a middle school, which means twice as many sweaty teenagers piling into the air-​conditioned library after school, which means twice as much noise to bother me.
