Academy Of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Professor Nathanson and his black belts, Ben and Louis, are excellent instructors. They welcomed me to train with them and their students were great sparring partners. The academy has a huge amount of mat space, showers, and weight lifting equipment as well. I highly recommend this place.

Great place to learn a great martial art! Todd is a great instructor and an all around good guy. There is plenty of mat space and facilities are top notch. You couldn’t find a better place in the north valley to train and roll. Highly recommended from a guy that has trained at many different dojos in L.A.

This place is amazing, I have been practicing Jiu-​Jitsu on and off for years and this is one of the only places I’ll visit. Very clean, friendly and inviting. The main instructor is a legend in the old school tradisional JJ community. Him partnered with both of his black belt award winning son’s makes for one bad ass studio! Don’t bring your ego here :). This is always my first recomendation when asked about JJ. Thank you guys for kicking ass.

First class Bjj instruction, clean environment, no pressure to buy anything, highly recommend for all ages, family friendly, you will not be disappointed

I used to train here back in the day and haven’t been back in over a year. I think that is the most depressing thing I have ever had to write on Unilocal.
I really enjoyed my time here learning the foundations of BJJ. Todd, Ben and Jared are all incredible instructors with a proven track record. They are also incredibly friendly and approachable. Todd never pushed me to sign up when I came in for my first free class. When I started training and needed a gi, Todd sold me a used one he had for very very cheap. I still have it, because one day I plan on coming back and training when I have more time. You are getting your moneys worth by coming here and will definitely get into the best shape of your life.

I have two kids, 10 and 11. They have been in martial arts training for 5 years, and in the process of watching them at various dojos, I have learned a bit about this «industry.»
Lots of places are about awarding belts. Lots of places are about tournaments. Lots of places are about a kind of military discipline, and a respect for the Sensei and the «art» of self defense. If you want to focus on any of those things for your kids, this is not the place for you.
If instead you want your kids to learn to defend themselves, in a real fight, in the real world, in the least possible amount of time, then this place is as good as it gets. Benjamin is a superlative teacher for kids; he somehow strikes the perfect balance between fairness, fun and hardcore instruction. The place is also very well-​maintained, the mats are expansive and clean, and the other adult students religiously pitch in and help teach the kids. It’s really something.
I may never enter my kids in a tournament. I don’t even know if Benjamin awards belts, and I don’t care. I care that if my kids are in danger they can defend themselves, and for that, Benjamin and his dojo are the perfect place.

Started training again and it feels great! Todd as usual leads a great class, breaking down techniques to the minute detail. If you are in Chatsworth, and want A1 training in BJJ, come on down and train!

I can no longer afford the membership but these guys are top notch instructors. Literally. world champions and Todd is a hall of famer. They are very nice, welcoming and always courteous.
The mats are clean, they have a shower for washing up after training and they provide water in a fountain. Huge bonus when you are training hard. They have tons of mat space and the classes are reasonably sized.
If you want to get into BJJ, make the trip to Chatsworth. I live in camarillo and would make the trip if I could afford the $ 175/​month, which is pricey if you only train once or twice a week but for a serious training schedule this place is the best.
They aren’t intense or focused on MMA. It is all about BJJ and training your skills, not becoming a fighter. Meatheads don’t last long and hotheads are quickly shown their place or the door. just be cool and train. They don’t force you to do extra cardio, or buy their gis or clothing like corporate BJJ schools (cough Gracies cough). They are a true mom and pop BJJ school and I love the Nathansons.
I’d give them 6 stars if I could!
