Jay Coates, has been a european automotive mechanic for over 30 years. He formerly owned Swedish Underground in Rochester, NY, then Best Darn Garage Around in Berkeley Heights, NJ, then Strictly Swedish in Dillsburg, PA and now The Popular Mechanic in Chatham, NJ. It is a very secure area, so you don’t have to worry about leaving your car unlocked. The Popular Mechanic is at the end if the street on the left half of the N. Grace & Sons building. Jay’s services are very resonably priced and most customers are very satisfied with the work that Jay has done.

The Popular Mechanic is an import automotive, full service repair shop specializing in all European imports. Jay Coates, with over 30 years experience of import automotive repair. Formerly, Jay was the owner of «Best Darn Garage Around» in Berkeley Heights and is now «The Popular Mechanic» in Chatham.

Jay’s diagnostic and mechanical abilities are a cut above most mechanics. His problem solving strategy is to approach each diagnostic case, no matter how difficult, with a logical, systematic approach to find the solution. Jay’s customer service and personality, coupled with his mechanical experience, is why he strives to be The Popular Mechanic. Jay is friendly and outgoing, and has an excellent way to convey to people what their car needs in terms that they can understand. He works very hard to build a good relationship with his customers.
