History

Established in 1996.

I began working as a nurse/​lactation consultant back in 1991 — private practice doing exclusively hospital and home visits. i also worked for an OB/​GYN and for NJ WIC as the Regional Coordinator for the BF promotion and Support program. In 1996 I decided to open my first center which was called The Lactation Resource Center which was then renamed Postpartum Place in 2006. Since then we have helped thousands of families and have become the #1 resource in NJ for new families. We are a one-​stop-​shop and pride ourselves on our timely, friendly, down-​to-​earth yet current professional assistance and support. Our reputation speaks for itself.

My husband and I found Maria to be very uncaring with horrible bedside manner. Like someone else said, she hands out old photocopied articles. She wanted me to take my 2 week old to chiropractor. She showed me no techniques and said that my son was «tongue-​tied.» I took him to an oral surgeon and the doctor said he was fine.
I would never recommend this place to anyone.

We found Maria gruff, rude and uncaring.
My wife and I visited Postpartum Place twice. The first time was pre-​baby for a «consult». At that point, she was nice and we sat with her, she showed us some VHS tapes and talked a bit about bf.
The second time we went (post-​baby) was because we were having a terrible time and problems with the breastfeeding. Maria was going on vacation later that day (made that very clear to us), walked in the door 15 minutes late and she was incredibly rude and short with us. She was uncaring and not supportive of the troubles we were having and offered no help to get us on-​track with BF.
Terrible experience and would never return. BF is a very personal and sensitive time and we found her awful to deal with when we were asking for help.

After having an appointment with Maria, the only benefit I found was here weighing my baby. She will hand out old articles photocopied for a one-​size fits most «diagnosis». She tells everyone to take Grapefruit Seed Extract which is completely unnecessary and dangerous.

Also, she will tell you to eliminate everything from your diet as it causes colic and refers to swaddling as baby bondage.

Maria saved my sanity! I was at such a low point after the birth of my baby… breast feeding was hard! I made an appointment with Maria and she was so warm, welcoming, down to earth… she immediately helped me latch my son correctly, gave advice on diet (apparently you can have a yeast infection in your nipples — ouch!). I left the office in a good mood!
I’ve called back since with more questions and she doesn’t rush me off the phone. She listens to all of my questions and hears what I have to say before she responds.
She’ll listen to you talk about all the stuff that you are worried about (color of baby’s poop, and so on).
Maria and her staff are wonderful. I couldn’t possibly thank them enough!
