Thai 99II is one of my favorite take out locations on 29 North. They are always super friendly and makes sure to give us extra spices. I’ve never found the need for them as everything has always been flavored excellently. The inside is also quiet and peaceful. I’ve been there a couple times to sit in and found it delightful.

The thai food here is more authentic for some Dishes and lacking in others. we were a group of 6. One meal had no flavor at all. The rest were pretty decent. There are better thai places in the area.

I’ve been coming here since I moved to town and it remains one of my favorite and somewhat hidden gems(if you’re coming from the direction of the University). This is a great place to take friends and family during the onslaught of visitors to town during game day weekends, etc. If you work nearby, I’d also recommend this as a good lunch spot. For around $ 10 you get an eggroll/soup, entrée, and dessert. A few personal favorites would be their Thai soups and noodle dishes. This is a rarity for Thai places to offer in general since soups are often limited to the usual Tom Yum, etc., but not here! They actually offer noodle entrees which are a mix of spicy, sweet, and sour all at once. The Pad See Ew is also very good and ample in serving size. The dish is a combination of wide sweet noodles with chicken and broccoli. The Pad Thai is also a solid staple with the usual accoutrements of scrambled egg, crushed peanuts, protein choice, bean sprouts, and the salty sweet flavor of fish sauce and tamarind. The staff is friendly, the food is good, and more importantly, they hardly ever have a wait and when they do, it’s a fair and manageable amount of time for the price. I’m a fan!

Went there for lunch. Rip off! The free soup is tasteless water with a few shredded carrots and celery. I’d be ashamed to serve such a thing. My green curry chicken was the worst Thai curry I have ever had. Nothing interesting about it. The rice was ok, yeah! They also offer free dessert… regular American vanilla ice cream. Will never return. And, they are same owners of Thai restaurant on Fontaine … I can see why that one is icky too.

I had never had Thai food before and during a recent trip through Charlottesville we decided to give it a try. The staff helped us with recommendations since we were not familiar with the Thai food. The food was fabulous I would highly recommend visiting this place and will eat there again when traveling through Charlottesville.

As one of the few(relatively) well acclaimed restaurants in the small town of Charlottesville, we decided to give it a try.(PS by «well acclaimed» I mean 4 stars by 76 people.) First impressions: Strange name, but I have a hunch: Maybe the great of of 1999 was the last time this place was cleaned? Also, in typical Thai restaurant fashion, there’s random stuff everywhere placed in a haphazard fashion. Not eye candy in any way. The waiter who sat us down at a table in the back was friendly enough, but that’s about it in the service department. We ordered soup, something with coconut milk and mushroom. Besides the fact that it smelled like sweaty gym socks, it also kind of tasted like sour milk to me.(Although some people I was dining with enjoyed it). My entrée was also kind of bland. In conclusion: a poor culinary and aesthetic experience overall.

Met friends here for lunch today. Good food and service. Lunch specials very reasonably priced and filling. The green and the red curry plates were very good. Restaurant was clean and up to date. Would come back again.

AMAZING! I would eat here everyday if I could! Great selection, great staff. Go for lunch and get free veggie soup and spring rolls. I would caution ordering from here from order up — they often get orders wrong. I’ve asked for no egg everytime, I get still get egg in my food over half the time.

Some of the best thai I’ve ever had, and definitely the best in Charlottesville. The atmosphere isn’t anything special but perfect for a casual group of friends or a low key third date.

Excellent red curry, drunken noodles & phở. Staff is always kind and courteous. Have also ordered take out several times and the gentleman we pick up the food from is so kind. Great place and happy to support them.

I was surprised about this one. The place was nice, but their food was ok. Their portions are a large enough for 2 – 3 people. The mango sticky rice was good, but hardly gave any mangoes.

I am definitely a fan of this place. I’m very picky with Thai food since I travel there often. It’s hard to find good Thai outside of big cities, but this place is decent. I had the yellow curry and the spice level was moderate(I asked for hot). The rice was good and not burned at all(aka too crispy). I recommend this place

I love this place and come here often. Best Thai food in town. They are fast friendly and always super good food! I love the Fresh spring rolls, the chicken satay and the Mango Sunset. Really good Pad Thai too!

I came here for a brief lunch today, we arrived about 15 minutes before the restaurant closed at the end of the lunch shift. Although the servers rushed us to place our orders and finish our meals, the quality of the food and the amazing décor made up for the rushing. The inside of the restaurant was amazingly well decorated – with all of the paintings and the lovely water fountain right in the wall. And the food was spectacular. My friend ate the shrimp pad Thai and I had the chicken panang curry. The lunch portions were definitely enough, and they came with spring rolls and cabbage stew. Both dishes were well cooked and yummy.

The sequel of Thai ’99 is significantly better. The menu is very extensive, so choose wisely. I’m a fan of the Grapao tofu(includes eggplant!). While the food is quite good, it cannot compare with the other Thai favorites in Charlottesville. So if you find yourself on 29 and craving some spicy Thai food, definitely stop by. You won’t be disappointed.

This is one sequel that’s better than the original. And it offers some of the best Thai food in Charlottesville. Just off Route 29, Thai 99II is the Empire Strikes Back of Thai food restaurants — sure, Thai 99 I established the characters and introduced you to the world, but Thai 99II improves on the original and offers a better dining experience. The inside is warm and inviting, and the service was top-notch. We were picking up our orders to-go, but that didn’t stop the server from giving us three different types of spice to add and explaining each, including making sure we had essential items such as chopsticks and even making our Thai Iced Teas to-go. Let’s talk food — I ordered the Drunken Noodle and my girlfriend ordered the Pad Thai. The Drunken Noodle is offered in three spicy varieties — I ordered the middle one, and it was very spicy(I’d recommend getting the mildest one and adding your own if you’re unsure), which I loved. The noodles were very well prepared and the plate was loaded with vegetables. The Pad Thai tasted fresh and they didn’t skimp on anything(the serving sizes are quite large). Just fantastic food all around. Thai 99II offers some of the best Thai food in Charlottesville along with excellent customer service and reasonable prices.

I recently moved to Charlottesville and was in search of a great Thai place. I had tried one other spot, which was nothing short of terrible. After doing some shopping, I called in an order to go at Thai 99II. My food was ready when I arrived even though I was a little early. The man, I’m guessing may be the owner, was super helpful and gave me a lot of extra sauces with my meal. I was starving and dug in as soon as I walked through the door. The fried egg rolls were fantastic, and the panang curry, which I ordered spicy, was amazing! I think I have found my new go to Thai spot. If only it wasn’t so far away…
