We’re a family-​owned and operated music school, offering private lessons in guitar, bass, upright bass, ukulele, and voice, located in Charlotte, NC. We specialize in pop performance, and love to help students find their inner rock star! We’re happy to work with kids and adults, and all skill levels from beginner to expert.

History

Established in 2008.

Michael and Amy Boyd began teaching in 2008 out of their home in Cedar Park, TX. Within a year, they had nearly 70 students, and moved the business into a commercial location. By 2014, the school had grown to over 170 students and 12 teachers, and was putting on sold-​out shows featuring their rock star students!

In summer of 2014, Michael and Amy moved from TX to Charlotte, NC to be closer to family, and so have started the cycle again, teaching guitar, bass, piano, and voice out of an upstairs studio in their Charlotte home. The school in Texas is still going strong, and between the two locations, Mike and Amy are thrilled to be able to bring music to more students than ever!

Meet the Business Owner

Michael B.

Business Owner

Originally from New York, Michael Boyd has been teaching private music lessons since 2000. Rather than follow a set lesson plan, Mike works to find songs students enjoy, while also teaching the theory behind those songs — an approach that not only teaches how to play an instrument, but encourages a love and understanding of music. He’s also an excellent resource for music school students, offering tutoring in music theory, sightreading and audition preparation.

Michael plays both guitar and bass in bands regularly, focusing largely on rock, jazz, and improvisation — although he’s played everything from blues, to country, to hip-​hop. Students will find him a gifted teacher, highly trained enough to improve even the best musicians, and patient enough to work with the most novice. (Kids love him too!)

Michael is the original Sense & Color instructor, and founded the school in Cedar Park, TX, with his wife Amy in 2008 before moving to Charlotte in 2014.
