Rudy Cools Heating and Cooling

If you live in or near the NODA, Villa Heights, Plaza-​Midwood areas (or anywhere in Charlotte) and have HVAC issues you need to go to Rudy Cools. They have exceeded my every expectation (and that is hard to do with me). I needed to have a new gas pack in early December 2015 and got an estimate from three different companies, and decided to go with Rudy Cools since they appeared to be professional and caring and could get the new unit installed the next day, as well as excellent Unilocal reviews. They did not nickel and dime me when doing the install, having to run a new thermoset line that they were not expecting to do. The job was professional, and efficient without any issues. A month after they completed my install, I was out of town and noticed that my heat was not working correctly (via wireless thermostat, I would highly recommend). I called up Rudy Cools and asked if they could have someone go by there and check it out without me being there (the gas pack is outside so they would have access to the unit without me). They checked it out, determined that I had an electrical problem with the power coming from to my house, and told me that if I called Duke Energy (which they tried to do for me, but could not order service because they were not the home owner) that they would be able to fix it. After contacting Duke Energy and telling them what Rudy Cools told me, my electric and heat was working the next day. All of this while I was out of town! I returned to a warm house all because of Rudy Cools. Excellent customer service and every review you read from them indicate that! Do not think about another company, go with Rudy Cools!

Our heat stopped working, on the coldest night ever! Called for an appointment, they were able to come out the next morning. Service provider arrived on time, was very friendly and professional. He changed the battery in the thermostat, and the filter in the vent, then went under the house to restart the system. Then, we had heat! He also took extra precaution to test for carbon monoxide because we have a small child. I was only charged the $ 89 service charge I agreed on, to send someone out. The technician said he «didn’t do anything» so he wasn’t charging me more than that. However he did do something– when he arrived we had no heat and when he left our thermostat was rising. Very kind, integral and would highly recommend!

Excellent service from Charles from Rudy Cools. My heater wasn’t working on my Rheem gas pack unit and the burner was not burning properly. Charles diagnosed then disassembled the unit and cleaned the heat exchanger. Heat is working well now. I was charged a very reasonable price, and most importantly, wasn’t told I would need costly repairs. I used this company because several people on the neighborhood website recommended them as honest, reasonably priced, and professional. My experience with them indicates that Rudy Cools were all of these things.

We had a capacitor go out on one of our AC units. The tech was at our house in no time and gave us great service. Fixed our problem for a very affordable price. I highly recommend Rudy Cools!

It all started back in June 2015 when we had the week long spell of 100 degree heat here in Charlotte. We came home from the Hospital and found that the A/​C was kaput and so began the OMG! now what ?
I came to Unilocal,found several good referrals including Rudy Cools and I called them all and set up appointments for them to come out, diagnose my problem. Rudy was the only outfit that could find the time to come out that first day. So after they told me that I basically needed a whole new system including a new furnace I realized I was in for another few days of interviewing folks for the Job.
My system had lasted 20 years which is unheard of but now there was no waiting any longer, it had to be replaced. Over the next 3 days we interviewed 6 other companies, took bids and then narrowed it down to 3. Then I went back and forth via email and the phone for another 2 days getting all of my questions, concerns answered. I had to learn a lot myself to know what questions to ask and I learned a Ton from a site called HVAC​.COM which is run by professionals in this Field. They cut thru all the hype and BS to tell you what to look for for your given situation. Once I had this valuable info I went back to my Top 3 firms and really pushed on the type of units they were selling, the different warranties, the absolute Best pricing of course but more importantly how were they going to take car of me when there are problems 5 years from now?
Overall, Rudy Cools came out on Top across the board on all of my criteria. In one word I can say it came down to «Ownership». I spoke directly with the owner Michael numerous times and the guy answered all of my questions. NO BS, just straight talk. He never questioned me when I called, no pressure and he came down on price. But the Biggest selling point other than his honesty was Customer Service. He took care of me and my family while we waited several days until his crew could come out on an extra day to do our install. He got us cooled down at no charge and that was HUGE!
You have to remember, it was HOT every day and we still had to go on with our lives, go to work and sleep at night for 9 days without any A/​C and Rudy Cools took care of us. His guys went above and beyond the call of duty during the install and never once complained. They were total Professionals. Do yourself a favor and take my word for it, these guys are Great!

This company came out when others told me to wait two weeks and when I said that wouldn’t work, they hung up on me. Not Rudy Cools! They were also booked out two weeks but Flavia, the wonderful person on the other end, stopped to ask if I had any AC at all. If I had two units were they both off? Answer: yes.
She had me worked in and even called me back later to ensure I was helped. David, the electrician, came out twice and diagnosed our problem (turns out it was electrical!) and was extremely patient.
Definitely would use again and recommend.
Customer service is hard to come by!

Too bad they only have the state license to work on single family homes. I called them on saturday as I realized that my HVAC was no longer cooling my place. I left a message and someone called me back within 30 minutes on a saturday morning. The rep said that most of the appt’s were taken over the next couple of days and I should give my system a day or two before calling someone in. She said to watch out for others who might try to price gouge given the recent heat wave. I told her that I live in a four story condo and her response was that they did not have a license to work on that type of job. Too bad but what a nice company on a saturday morning no less !

We have had trouble recently with our ac unit running but not cooling the house. Rudy’s came out and quickly and efficiently found the problem. It was an easy fix that someone could have easily overlooked but Charles, our technician, took the time to really try and find the problem, not just put a bandaid on it! He was incredibly friendly and informative. I also really liked always talking to the same people on the phone and feeling like our business meant something to them. Great customer service goes a long way and Rudys did not disappoint.

Well, another five-​star rating for Rudy Cools! Michael replaced our downstairs furnace in 2011, and offered financing, which was very helpful at the time. There were some minor initial issues with the unit, and Michael came over, on the spot, to take care of things, for no charge, of course! We had some issues more recently, and were working with our home warranty company, and weren’t certain they were diagnosing things correctly, and were unsure of the source of the issue. We called Rudy Cools and explained our situation. Michael had someone come over following our home warranty guy, and he accurately diagnosed the situation. Rudy Cools repaired it at no charge. This was above and beyond! They didn’t have to do this, but they are clearly very committed to maintaining a spotless reputation. This is a first for me – writing a Unilocal review, but they have inspired me. I wish all good things for this business – they are rare in this day and age, and we are truly grateful. It is 26 degrees today, but very toasty warm in our home! Thank you Michael, and Rudy Cools!

It’s been a rough start to my «New Year» having our heat go out on the coldest weekend thus far did not help & hearing we needed to replace our unit was depressing to say the least. One silver lining was working with everyone in this company, they totally restored my faith in humanity. They worked out a payment plan and I had a new unit installed within 24 hours. I would highly recommend their services!

A/​C just stopped working on one seriously hot weekend. Charles came over on Tuesday, knocked out the problem in less than an hour, and then gave me a bunch of tips to keep my system better maintained. All at a very fair price too.
These are good neighborhood people, can’t recommend them enough.

I scheduled an AC tune up after buying my first home, and was very impressed with the service I got. Charles was very knowledgable and professional. He did a great job explaining what he found, my options for remedying the problems, and ideas about the cost of each option. He even asked if I had a home warranty, as some of the work might be covered through them. I told him I wasn’t sure, but when I looked into it it turns out my agent did get me a warranty. Charles may have saved me hundreds of dollars with that suggestion. I signed up for a service plan where they will come out twice a year for HVAC check ups, and I will definitely be using them for all future repairs. I also love that they are based here in Plaza Midwood, so I am putting money back into my community.

We replaced our AC six years ago with Angie listed Patterson Heating and Air. We have had a maintenance program with them ever since. However, after their inflated bid of $ 355 to replace a dual capacitor, forced me to check my Unilocal account.
I found Rudy Cools!
Rudy Cools price of $ 165 was reasonable, fair and on target. Their employee was courteous and efficient. He also took the time to show me the Farad readings on the new and old part.
Rudy Cools made my 50^th Birthday weekend all the more enjoyable with a savings of almost $ 200.

I’ve had them come out twice now and both times felt like I was provided the highest level of professional treatment and HVAC assessment available. Most recently, I was informed that a damper wasn’t properly calibrated and air wasn’t flowing correctly. Would have never known it had the tech not taken the time to notice and adjust it, then explain it to me. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
This is the kind of company and treatment you always hope you’ll get but often don’t Rudy Cools is doing it the right way and will lay claim to loyal customers along the way!

I decided we should get a professional to come check our airflow issues on our second floor and tuneup our furnace. We were pretty confused by our duct system and weren’t sure about what went where.
So glad I called Rudy Cools! Our technician was Charles and he was right on time and very professional. As he performed the tuneup, he discovered our heat pump wasn’t working. After some discussion, Charles figured our new thermostat wasn’t compatible and recommended we test the original one that came with the house.
Thanks to Charles, we discovered that we purchased the wrong thermostat for our system. He also showed us how the airflow worked and explained how to regulate the temperatures for each floor. We really appreciated him educating us on our system.
Another plus is that their technicians are not working on commission so there’s no pressuring you to about additional repairs or even services that you may be able to do yourself.
Rudy Cools cools will definitely be our resource for any HVAC needs in the future.

Michael Argento and his team are fantastic. I own a townhome and operate a business in a rented space… and unfortunately I’ve experienced HVAC problems at both! I’ve tried Morris Jenkins, Miller Heating & Air, my landlord’s «handy guy»… and NO ONE compares to Rudy Cools. Now that I’ve found this company, I’ll never call anyone else. Here are some of the reasons Rudy Cools gets 5 stars:
1. Michael and his team are all punctual and friendly. You get a specific appointment time, not a 4 hour window like so many other places offer. While they are working, they will chat with you about their kids, gardens, dogs, etc :)
2. The staff is neat, clean and professional — they wear uniforms and don’t arrive covered in mud and grime (other companies have done this and tracked dirt and grease all over my home).
3. They are knowledgeable and helpful. They will take you outside and show you what is wrong (how it currently looks vs. how it should look). They spend time explaining the issue and the options to you and let you decide on the best course of action. I’ve never felt «pushed» to do something and I understand why I’m spending my money on.
4. The prices are completely fair, and the company offers financing too!
5. They can service both residential and commercial units — this was not the case with other companies I had tried in the past.
Every single time I have interacted w/​Michael and his staff, I have been thoroughly impressed. It’s great to see a business owner who is so skilled, hard working, and involved w/​his customers. Thanks guys!!!

It’s rare I’m super thrilled with any home related repairs. Generally the repair cost, the hassle of coordinating a time to meet, wrangling the dogs when they arrive, etc makes it a ridiculously stressful experience and I don’t feel like writing a review even if they do a great job.
Rudy Cools went above and beyond. They came out this past Monday after work hours and quickly diagnosed and repaired by AC — same day I called! The repaiir cost was reasonable. Just today it cut off again and I admit, I was rather ticked I was hot once again but Chris, the technician made a house call on a Sunday and fixed the issue at no cost. Good follow-​up is major points as far as I’m concerned. He also answered some questions I had about the age of my unit without trying to alarm me or sale me a new unit right away.
Bottom line — quick service, fair prices, honest repair team.
