Post Uptown Place

I’v been staying in apartments since college so for about 8 years now and this is the best experience I have had at a complex. Alicia the property manager and Mike the handy man take pride in their work and make living here an enjoyable experience. I signed a lease sight un-​seen and was very happy with my particular spot I loved the loft type look, the antique wood floors and the view! Also having a dunkin donuts and CVS next door is icing on the cake! Thank you Alicia and Mike I appreciate all the work you guys do for your tenants!

I moved here taking on a short term lease (4 months) so that I could have a place for my wife and I to stay while we sold one home in CA and found a new one in Charlotte.
I moved in at $ 1200/​month on a 4 month lease. 2 months into it, they sent me a letter for a lease renewal, seeking $ 1500/​month. Nothing has changed in the past 3 months. The place has the same carpet, the same fixtures, the same everything. They know that they have me living there and that it would cost me a substantial amount of time and energy (what business school grads call ‘Switching Cost’) so they decided to bend me over and have their way with me. They were wonderfully friendly when I was moving in… once they get their hooks into you, watch out!
I’m very seriously considering moving out of this place and into another short term apartment just because their business practices are so awful.
DO NOT MOVE HERE. DON’T EVEN STOP TO LOOK.
I have 2 words for you: RUN AWAY!
PS: They can’t seem to stop (or don’t care to stop) the people who lets their dogs crap all over the parking garage and leave it there for everyone to have to step around. Really?

Looked at these a while back and was impressed. Part of the Post family, they have nice floor plans, secure access to the complex and enough parking to make this a serious consideration for a rental in the center city. With prices continuing to rise I still find Post to be affordable.
Throw in a pool and they have probably just about everything you need in a rental property.

The tenants regularly left half-​consumed beers in the elevator. Occasionally accompanied by vomit or other bodily fluids. The grossest would be cleaned up promptly, but on more than one occasion sandwiches rotted in there, untouched, for days. The pool, a big selling point when we first moved in, permanently gained a floating beer-​pong table and a dozen frat guys. Music and screaming in the courtyard until 2 am was a weekend fixture, all summer long.
All this, we could have tolerated. But in 2008, when the housing market fell apart and local rents came down 20−30%, they «generously» offered not to increase our rent. I had some words with the leasing agent about us leaving if our rent wasn’t adjusted to market value and she said, straight to my face, that it was time the company starting increasing its profits again. How was that meant to convince me? We did not renew our lease.
The next week, our apartment was listed on the company’s website, and the rent was reduced by $ 200. I told her that we would love to lease our apartment at this new advertised rate but she said that we couldn’t. Anyone else in the world could rent at that rate, but if we wanted to stay they would expect an extra $ 200 per month.
6 months after we moved out, the apartment was still on the market and the price was still falling. Great strategy, guys.
