Will not go back.
1.It took them 1 hour 40 minutes to do a simple trim.
2.They use cold water to rinse the hair condition! It’s freezing after they washed my hair and brought me a bad headache.
3. The hair cut turn out ugly, the bottom of my hair look like had dog bite!

Jamila was the best! Took the time to get what I really wanted! Totally recommend her to everyone!

I went in for full highlights, cut, color and style as per the Groupon I bought. I told the girl (Molly) that I was looking for a copper blonde just to darken things up a bit for fall (I have blonde hair). She brought out the book and I picked out a darker copper color with a bit of an Auburn undertone. Instead, ¾ of my head is now PINK and the underneath was never touched at all. After washing my hair repeatedly all night trying to get the ridiculous color to fade, I called the school asking them if someone could fix it. I understand that these are students and they’re learning, but that I couldn’t go around with pink hair. (People at work even asked why my hair was pink, so I know I’m not being paranoid or dramatic.) I also asked why there was an entire section of my hair that had no color at all. She responded that it was the color I chose. Which, I am a 30 year old professional, I ASSURE YOU I did not, in any way, want PINK in my hair, and that students only do a partial highlight. Please then, explain to me why your Groupon clearly states FULL HIGHLIGHT.
She made zero attempts to reconcile the situation in any way at all. Instead, reiterated that the bleeding of the pink would fade out of the blonde sections in time. What does that have to do with the wrong color in my hair? And telling me that I have the color in my hair that I wanted? Absolutely not. First of all, I chose a dark color, not a light one, and second, NOT PINK.
I’ve been here before and had my hair colored here before and I was very happy. My issue is not with the student but with the rude instructor. Especially since this is a learning school why wouldn’t you ask me to come back to fix what was done? That way your student can learn to make the customer happy instead of walking around looking like a teenager?
Be very careful. Not because of the students, but if you’re unhappy it’s YOUR FAULT.

Not sure why the hours for appointments are so limited… M-​F from 10am-​230pm. I bought a Groupon but have to return it b/​c I have a full-​time M-​F job and it doesn’t work on the weekends. My suggestion? Maybe be open from 3 – 7 on a couple of those days? I guarantee you’ll get more business and the students will get more practice. Working professionals just can’t make those appointment times work. But oh well!

Wanted to really switch things up, but wasn’t willing to pay too much. That being said, I got what I paid for. And I don’t mean that in a totally bad way. The color I wanted actually came out really well. I didn’t even provide the stylist with a picture. I told her what I had in mind and she did a great job explaining the technique and colors she thought would best bring my idea to life. I was impressed!
Downside: she failed the «measure twice, cut once» rule. I’m leaving with my hair at least an inch shorter than I wanted. Upon completing her original cut, I pointed out some uneven strands that required more cutting and finally her supervisor trimmed/​evened out the last of it. The cut left my majorly
I hated that it took 4 hours to complete but at least I know she was bring thorough. Can’t beat the prices and it feels good to know you’re helping someone achieve their career goals. Just be willing to really communicate with your stylist and things should be fine. Overall it was a decent enough experience that I will try it again.

Loved the attention my hair was given and the awapuhi hair treatment was awesome! But would prefer a better haircut…

First of all I have to say that all of the stylists have always been really great and they always take up promptly. That is not my issue with Paul Mitchell. I have to tell you that I am very disappointed. I have been buying the Groupon diligently for two or three years now for both me and my daughter and was recently told that they no longer accept Groupons on Saturday so I called them expecting it to be more than the Groupon would be which, by the way, the Groupon is $ 21 or $ 22 for a shampoo, cut, and style. When I called they told me that for a shampoo, cut, and style it would be $ 15 if I did not want the flat iron which I never get anyway so, needless to say I feel like I have been misled into thinking that I was getting a good deal with the Groupon.

I am very pleased with my haircut; I had medium length hair cut quite short on the sides, and it looks great! Have gotten lots of compliments. I told my stylist, Tabatha, that I was somewhat nervous and didn’t have a set idea of what I wanted, so she talked with me about it until we both knew exactly how it would look. She was very reassuring and patient, giving me tips how I can style my new hair.
No problem redeeming the Unilocal voucher, but their POS computer system seems to have some issues. Had to make another purchase just to be able to leave a tip for my stylist. I recommend bringing cash if you’d like to leave a tip!

I am just leaving am I am very pleased. I needed my hair done for the week and since I just moved back to Charlotte I really had no idea where to go.
I found Paul Mitchell school here on Unilocal!After a hair salon search. I figured wether it’s a school or a «regular» salon I was taking the same risk. Also here I figured I am definitely getting good products.
So I went for it. Easy to make an appointment, plenty free parking, was seen right on time, the supervisor (s) came regularly, and I had a very good student (I will add her name when I go back). She was patient and just good.
I am going back next month to up the ante: cut and color! Will update.
Oh n they don’t hard sell products… but I did find one useful, so I purchased. ;)

This was my first time in a salon in USA and powered with mixed reviews from Unilocal and a coupon from livingsocial I dared to take the risk of handing over my hair to a ‘to be professional’ stylist. I am happy to say that it was a great experience.
My stylist Kim with the help of her teacher Heather did a great job in understanding my requirement. They gave me a great haircut. a total transformation from a long frizzed hair to a short, crisp and cute one.
I will go there again.

I just looked through the reviews and it seems really mixed. I had a good experience but I went taking the place with a grain of salt.
I was ready for a long stay at the location. I made the appointment nice and early at 1030 and I was ready to spend my afternoon at PM. I made the appointment through Unilocal — don’t do that because they had no record of the appointment once I got there. I was still seen quickly since they take walk ins. I left after being colored, cut, and blow dried at 2pm.
Like others, I purchased a deal on living social then still paid extra after all. $ 27 for the deal then $ 16 more for additional color. It was explained to me that one bowl of color is included and every next bowl is $ 8. The full line of products is sold at the location and I purchased a shampoo and a detangler.
My hair was colored by two students and cut by Ash. I’m loving my cut and color. The teacher monitoring the floor came by during the consult and at the end to check my cut. I’m pleased and overall between the two services, two products and tip, I still made it out cheaper than a traditional salon. Just remember you’re in what is comparable to a lab class and we’re the specimens. ;)

Went with a Living Social deal at 1pm during the week. Cost was $ 31 ($ 8 extra cause my hair is long. They told me about additional cost before we began). Called to book an appointment for wash, cut, color and blow out. I asked for a student with lots of experience with color.
I didn’t ask for a big change. I had a few inches cut off and layers trimmed up. Basically I told Dutchess that I want to look sexy as if I was going to walk a red carpet. I let HER pick the overall shape of the cut that would flatter my face and let HER pick a color that would work well with my skin tone. Why did I do this? Because she’s a student and they learn about this stuff and it was fresh in her mind. I’m no hair expert so why not leave it in their hands?
Everything went well. No problems. My hair looks AMAZING. Because they are students, we spend a bit of time with the consult and the process was slower. An instructor checked her work after. Keep that in mind because I was there for 4 hours (not a big deal).
The salon is cool, kind of industrial. Music was good (probably louder if I sat more near a speaker). I liked the separate room for washing hair. I was told of all the products he was going to use but she didn’t push me to purchase them.
I’ll go back!

I had the most amazing experience with Molly, one of the students at Paul Mitchell. She is a new student, but a prodigy nonetheless. She performed just like a professional while foiling my hair and chose the perfect color. She made me feel like I was at a 5 star spa, and my hair felt the same! I highly recommended Molly for any cut, color, highlights, or styling! I have an appointment set up for her to do my makeup also, I can’t wait

I was referred to go here from a co-​worker who always has fabulous hair. Of course it’s a risk going here but you can’t beat the price or experience. Well, I asked for an ombré. I left with Orange tints to sections of my hair, bleached, uneven patches everywhere. My hair was a wreck. And I don’t blame the student who didn’t tell me how bad it was (I didn’t realize how bad it was till I got home) as much I blame the instructor.
First off, it was a Saturday and extremely busy. The student did her job and asked the instructor the appropriate questions from the beginning. She seemed to know what she was doing. Further more, the instructor «Leslie» glanced by barely a handful of times the entire 4 hours I was there. So I assumed my hair was turning out fine. WRONG.
I am appalled that NO one said anything to me or offered to have me come back to fix it. I understand the students are still learning and what not, but she obviously needed more supervision. Instead I was passed along as if my hair was completely ok. I should have known it was going to be a problem when the first part of my hair was processing for almost 3 hours due to the fact that the student didn’t have much help.
I had to pay 200 $ to get it fixed the next day and my stylist was in shock that at a school like Paul Mitchell they used FOILS to do my ombré.
Know what you’re getting yourself in to if you go here. The price is good and experience is cool, but the instructors need to care a little more.

My friend purchased a Groupon deal for a «Cut and Color» and «Cut and Highlight». These «terms» can become confusing to the customer depending on what you’re looking to get done to your hair. I wanted a colored ombré and had no idea that an «ombré» is considered a «highlight». Maybe there should be some sort of clarification on the Groupon deal so that the customer won’t be «upcharged» for something they did not know.
Despite being charged $ 50 on top of the Groupon, I had a pleasant experience. I was really worried because the reviews seemed to be a hit or miss. You have to take into consideration that the students may be in different parts of their program. The girl that worked on my hair had about a year on the floor and was very confident in her skills. The girl who had worked on my friend’s hair had only been on the floor for a few months. This is a scary thought because you never can expect to get the best. You can only hope for the best.
Because my hair was Black I knew that an ombré would take time. I was in the chair by 11:15 and didn’t get out until 3:30. Tasia (my stylist) did an excellent job at my Balayage Ombré. She literally hand-​painted each section of my hair to get the perfect gradient. The styling was perfect.
My only problem was that she did not tell me until the VERY end that they did not have the «rose» color that I originally wanted. My hair was already blown out and I was running late to work. My friend had to get hers re-​fixed because her hair did not lift correctly.
So yes, go in if you want to gamble on the life of your hair. I was blessed with an experienced stylist who made me like I could TRUST her. Practice makes perfect and I wouldn’t like to bash on students but do the right thing and ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS.

I’ve been going here for three almost four years and NEVER disappointed. My new hair dresser is kelly j. She’s great!!! Gentle, cheerful, and funny! Lol

Normally I have had a great experience at this place. However, that was during the daytime hours. This was the first time I went at night, and I will NEVER do it again!
I have a sister that is a stylist, and I have always been supportive of cosmetology students/​schools because they provide a good service at great rates and gives the students what they desperately need: experience. I have never felt uncomfortable or concerned because there has always been an instructor to guide the student to ensure success. Well, until this visit that is.
I went in the evening to have highlights and lowlights added. The instructors, (for lack of a better word) were not there to instruct like the daytime crew. No… instead they are off doing god knows what and not focusing on the students. My stylist was new-​she had a few good techniques about her, but she lacked direction and guidance. Grossly lacked, that is!
First, it took her nearly 45 mins from the time I was seated in her chair to get anything started. The developer sat too long because it started to foam up. (I heard one of the instructors say this), so it took even longer to get things done. In some places the developer was on too long, and I now have damage to my hair. I also have spots that are very obvious some parts of the section had bleach and some not. Of course I did not discover this until well after I was already home. Oh, and did any instructor come by to check things? Yeah, right! Not once… and by that I do mean NEVER did an instructor take the time to look at my hair, check the condition of the developer, or even give instruction. Nope… not once.
My appointment was scheduled for 6:30pm (and I was seated then!)…normally I have been done and out of there within 2 ½ hrs max. Nope… not this time! Finally about 10 after 9pm, I called it. I told her to blow dry my hair and leave me be. (She still had foils with bleach «still developing» in my hair and still hadn’t cut it!) I was NOT about to stay there until after 10:30pm! That would have had me there for 4 hours-​NOT acceptable at ALL!
When I attempted to call the school to discuss this issue, I was hung up on 3 different times. So I waited until the following week to see if I would be fortunate enough to have someone actually answer the phone. They did, but I felt it was met with little to no concern for how this customer in particular was treated, and how it reflected on the professionalism of the school as a whole. To say I was disappointed would be a gross understatement. By the way… to this day I have still yet to get a phone call back to discuss my issue and concerns-​over a week later!
Would I recommend Paul Mitchell the School Charlotte to anyone? After this experience, I would say the chances are highly unlikely. Will I go back and pay them for services? Highly doubtful. If after reading this review you still feel you wish to risk it, then I would suggest you go during the day-​you stand a MUCH better chance at having things done right and having your student stylist observed by an instructor! Not to mention your business might be appreciated more!

I needed my hair and makeup done for an event and my regular stylist cancelled on me!!! Ugh… what’s a girl to do??? Call The Paul Mitchell School.
They were ready for me when I arrived, explained the entire process of what they were doing to my hair and for a few moments made me feel like a local celebrity… I had two people on my hair, one awesome makeup artist perfecting my face and tons of students coming over to watch and learn new techniques!
If nothing more, it’s definitely worth the experience. And you absolutely can not beat the price! So give them a try… you might just love it!

Got my haircut at Paul Mitchell School. Came out a lot shorter than I really wanted. Oh well it’s summertime but think I’ll go elsewhere for my next cut.

5 stars! This as stated in prior reviews is a hidden gem. I get my haircut every time there and couldn’t be more pleased. Not only do you get the selffulfill ness of helping students learn how to cut hair before becoming professionals but they do a great job and put in the extra effort.
