Painting with a Twist

Absolutely addictive and amazing! The art they teach and provide is top notch, and super professional (unlike some of their competitors) The experience was wonderful! The location is great! We had a hilarious lady teaching our night class– she had us all laughing the entire night! We LOVED our art! I have no artistic ability and found it incredibly easy to follow along! It was enjoyable, laid back, fun, and the perfect activity for anyone!

Excellent group atmosphere. Thanks to my lovely new bride Tanisha Myers Poe for extending the invitation. The hostesses were very sweet and welcoming. Also wonderful meeting So so many people who have been in many events address I. A big shout out to Mrs Ladreon Hate. Birthday lady .” Painting with A Twist”. Ms. Kai Jarell!!! And the biggest party group. Looking forward to meeting with everyone again.

This was my first time and I truly enjoyed the experience. Bricklend was a great teacher and I certainly would love to back again for not one but many more classes. If you’re a first timer, you’d love it even more. Cheers!!!

Awesome night at PWAT! Me and a friend were celebrating a birthday and invited 4 friends to join us. As we walked in we were greeted and told where we were setup to sit. When you purchase your tickets online you can request someone to sit near which was nice we didn’t have to worry about that. We were in the main room where there are 5 tables of 6 easles (3 on each side of the table). We went across the street to Gigis and brought cupcakes and had wine to enjoy as we painted. However, It was kind of hard to eat the cupcake as we painted, even with a fork & there’s not a lot of table room where you paint. But they do have a table near the front and back where people can put their purses and coats underneath and leave your bottles on top for refills. They also provide cups and cork screws. Another thing to note is there isn’t really time to stop to snack. We got one 10 minute break but the rest of the class it’s keep up or fail lol. So next time I’ll probably pass on the snacks. Hanging up they have pictures of paintings they are doing the rest of the month along with the date which I thought was smart and convenient!!! They also had a few others hanging to enjoy. Along the wall there were several blow dryers to help dry your paint for the next steps and also before they go in your car. Another smart touch.
As the class started, our instructor Tara wore a microphone which really helped carry her voice so you could hear everything said. They also had a monitor on each side of her recording as she painted so if you could not see her paint, you could watch the monitor. Though I’d much rather watch her directly. So hopefully I never have to sit in the back. For the most part I felt it went great. Though I did feel a bit rushed once we got in the thick of it. Eventually we just stopped trying to listen to her and figured it out on our own. We would be a few steps behind her painting as quickly as we could. And once she explains it once, she moved on. She had an assistant who refilled paint and also helped us figure out what to do and helped fix some of our messes lol. Poor thing ran all over that class though. She was social and friendly while also being helpful. However, waiting for her to refill everyone’s paint while the instructor does not stop, didn’t help in us keeping up. Seemed they may need 2 people to assist the instructor. Also i feel maybe the classes should maybe be 2.5 hours instead of 2 so it’s not so rushed. But I wasn’t mad at how it went, just a note.
They did a contest during the class where if you post a selfie of your self with your easal behind you and tag them in it, the person with the most likes gets a prize. A bit of an unfair contest for us, especially if you are not big on social media, but awesome promotion for them. So I felt that really was for them at the end of the day! Cant be too mad at them at the end of the day for a great marketing angle. They also called everyone celebrating a birthday up on staged at one point during the class and had everyone sing happy birthday to us. That was sweet and fun. They also gave us a shooter glass souvenir. It’s super cute!
Overall I enjoyed my experience with PWAT! I feel my painting came out awesome and my creative juices really got a chance to flow. While most did their jars exactly as the instructor, I decided I didn’t like the stem and waterline concept and decided to fill my jars in and it came out great I feel. A lot of other people in the class also did variations of their paintings & they came out great. And everyone seemed to have a great time! They played the best music as we painted! It really helped with the Saturday night turnup! And everyone in the class was friendly and embraced each other. I was thinking about doing a private class for my birthday but now I’m glad I didnt. I can’t wait for my next experience at PWAT!!!
Update 10÷29÷15: Returned to paint with instructor KC. She is my favorite so far! She really took the time to not only explain things, but to entertain us.

I signed a friend and I up for a $ 35 (each) class. We arrived and were greeted by a very upbeat, friendly girl. Awesome! Great start… until we got into the back room where our class was taking place. The first thing that was a little off putting was that the instructor didn’t speak to us when we walked in. She had to have known we were there (we walked in laughing) but she didn’t acknowledge us until I spoke to her. She actually seemed irritated that I spoke.
After putting on the aprons and choosing our chairs, a few more people arrived and I noticed the instructor’s entire demeanor change. Suddenly she became social and fairly happy, it seemed so fake to me.
When the entire class had arrived BOOM, the instructor launched into the painting. She was giving instruction after instruction so fast it was hard to keep up, even when people would pipe up and ask for help she’d say, «I’m going to do this next step and then we’ll come back to this». Great, but then she started saying 3 or 4 instructions in a cluster, «this brush with this paint and this line with this paint on this brush and wipe this here and blah blah blah».
The other downside was that another class was happening right outside the room we were in, and we could clearly hear that instructor. It was really distracting.
My biggest complaint is something that’s a personal issue, but I know there are others who feel the same… I hate to be touched, I have small anxiety attacks when strangers touch me. During the class, at one point the instructor came up behind me and squeezed both my shoulders. Granted, she was complimenting my work, but it took all my energy not to lose it right there. Hands off, get out of my bubble!
Overall this concept is a nice idea, I just felt very rushed and distracted… and at the end extremely uncomfortable. I looked at the picture taken of our group and I could visibly see the anxiety in my face. I would be open to trying another class, but I’d probably try to get a different instructor.

I’ve been to PWAT 8 times and I’m truly addicted! The instructors make the class fun and keep the energy high. It’s always a party! For me, it’s more than that. It’s become a stress reliever and a way to get in touch with another side of myself. And the paintings are really pretty too! I’m decorating my home with them. Every time I take a newbie with me they are nervous thinking that they need to have some artistic talent. They are always very impressed and proud of themselves in the end. I’ve tried 2 other painting studios in Charlotte and they do not compare. Their instructors were boring, the paintings sucked or they were way too overcrowded. I’m a loyal PWAT fan for life!

My girlfriends and I had a great time celebrating a birthday. Definitely would go back again. Had a awesome time and the staff members are hilarious.

Had an awesome time at an Open Studio last week, it was great! I had never been to one, only regular classes and loved being able to pick out the painting I wanted. Brickland was very helpful when I had questions and at guiding us along to make sure we finished in time. I love coming here, it’s a chance to hang out with my friends, chat with other people and paint. We always have a great time!

I’ve been going to Painting with a Twist for almost two years. My girlfriends and I try to make it once a month as it always promises to be a good time (and a great stress-​reliever!). The calendar offers a variety of paintings to choose from and they even offer a frequent painter program. «Artenders» Bricklend and KC make it such a fun environment with as little or as much instruction as you need.

I’ve been wanting to try Painting with a Twist for a loooooong time. I just haven’t been able to convince any of my girl friends to go with me! So my husband finally suggested we do it as a «Date Night» activity. And it was perfect!
We specifically looked over the calendar and chose a painting that appealed to both of us. We went with the Candy Cane Palm Tree on a Sunday night. We arrived at 6pm for a 6:30 class, which worked out well because we were able to choose our seats close to the instructor. We had time to drink and have a cupcake from GiGi’s next door before the class started.
From start to finish, the experience was awesome! I was super nervous, but our instructor Tara was funny & helpful when explaining the steps. She also have ideas for modifying the painting (mixing colors, different techniques, etc.) to make it your own. And I must say, our paintings turned out very different! It was fun to see how my husband interpreted the painting and vice versa, making it a perfect date night.
We’ve already hung the paintings in our dining room as part of our Christmas decorations — love them! We will be returning customers for sure!

I celebrated my birthday here and I’m so glad I did! In between having mini «art-​attacks» we laughed until our cheeks hurt. Painting with a Twist and Bricklend ROCK!!! If you haven’t tried it, please book a class today and take friends!

I have taken these wine and paint classes at a few places around town and this one is by far is the most fun. The «Art-​Tenders» are hilarious and keep you laughing through the whole class.
When I was there last night, they had a private party going on in the back room and it sounded like everyone was having SO much fun. What a fun party idea for a bunch of friends to get together for! I think I might plan my next birthday here :)

My wife and I had a good time here. A great staff. However, they played hip hop and eighties hair bands all night. Not my idea of appropriate music for an art studio, but that is just a personal preference. I would have thought upbeat jazz, big band, Gershwin, anything but ear destroying hair bands and rap while trying to enjoy painting a Van Gogh type piece of all things. Overall, I liked the painting I walked out with and the experience. The instructor was upbeat and very helpful so I guess that is the most important thing.

Sooooooo it took me several months but I finally returned. This time I did have a great time! There was music and trivia and the staff was definitely more interactive/​helpful.
My only gripes are that we started almost half hr late b/​c the instructor insisted on waiting for latecomers. Subsequently, we didn’t finish until almost an hr past the scheduled end time. I do certainly appreciate not being rushed to finish the painting and being allotted the xtra time, but if we had started as scheduled… Just saying :-/

What a fun night this turned out to be!
Painting with a Twist offers a fun night guaranteed for any group. My friend decided to have a «pARTy» here to celebrate her birthday. When we RSVP’d we told them that we’d like to sit together and they were happy to oblige.
When we arrived we were greeted warmly by our very upbeat and energetic instructor Jen who checked us in and showed us to our table. The layout is simple. They provide all the art supplies and you just show up with wine (and snacks) and paint away. No setup and no cleanup!
I won’t lie the moment I sat down that there was some paint and a blank canvas I nearly passed out! I don’t have an artistic bone in my body so I was at least hoping for some outlines in pencil as a cheat for me to just paint around! But before I could have a mini «art attack» as Jen would say; she said that there was no wrong way to paint and when in doubt just have more wine! Ha.
Thank goodness Jen was patient! She walked us all through the painting step by step, she came over and helped when needed and encouraged us along the way. By the end I was more than pleased with my painting and my friends all agreed that we must do this again.
At the end while we were wrapping up our entire group had to take two pictures; one where we just showed off our lovely art work and the other picture with a «twist» that included lots of silly faces and upside down paintings.
This place definitely makes for a fun night – no matter the event! Whether it’s a girl’s night, kid’s party or even date night! I would recommend this place to anyone!

This is definitely an awesome time! I had been meaning to try one of these places since moving to Charlotte but somehow never got around to it until I received an invite to a friends birthday party at Painting with a Twist. Needless to say I was PUMPED! Since it was a private party my friend provided the food and wine and the amateur artists (aka the partygoers) provided the entertainment for the evening. I’m not very artistic but our instructor Sam put everyone’s mind at ease and we got our food and drinks and got right to it. We had a few breaks where we could compare each other’s pictures to what they were supposed to look like– pure hilarity. Some people were nervous but if you start to take your painting too seriously you just get some more wine and it’s all good!

I went here on Friday night with my boyfriend and a bunch of his coworkers. He sat in one room and I was in the other so we could have two different paintings. I thought it would be awkward given I knew no one, but the whole environment is very conducive to meeting new people and enjoying the experience.
I agree with previous reviewers — bring drinks and a couple snacks. I went through a bottle of wine and would have loved a little something to nosh on! Some ladies in my room had brought food from Cowfish and everyone was salivating.
Although this place isn’t cheap, per se, you get instruction, paint, brushes, the canvas, and the final product. I bet this is really fun for a kid’s party, too!

I’ve gone before with girlfriends and had a great time — this time I took my 5 year old daughter for a kids painting class. We had a blast, for $ 25 she was able to paint a reindeer picture, have cookies and hot chocolate and a visit from Santa. It was priceless to be able to take pictures with Santa in a private setting.
The class was a lot of fun for the kids, looking forward to planning a girls night out soon!
