Owens Chimney Systems

Very knowledgable, clean, and professional service. David really knew what he was talking about! It was great how he showed me pictures and walked me through everything that was wrong and needed repair. Very fair pricing too! Never once thought I was being over charged. Would highly recommend to all!

UPDATE: I called Owens and spoke with someone there and he gave me a full refund for this morning and would speak with the technician that they sent this morning. Due to the helpful customer service over the phone I am adding two stars back to the review of the original one star.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: My husband and I recently moved into a new house and the fireplace was not working. My husband tinkered around with it ultimately figuring out that the gas was just coming out too fast and knew that he had to call a professional to fix it. Owens came up first on google search so we called them. He explained the problem and they seemed to understand on the phone. We scheduled an appointment. When the service guy showed up at the house he looked like he was 18. I have never had a repair person work on my house with less confidence. He kept taking pictures on his phone and walking outside to talk to someone because he clearly had ZERO clue what the heck he was doing. He spent over TWO hours at our house before he said that we needed to call someone at the gas company and replace our entire log system. Then he said we owed 165 $ for the cleaning of the log system that we were going to have to replace (idiotic) and for all the trouble shooting work he did to figure out what was going on. We paid him to get him out of our house. We then called another fire place repair company and they sent someone over the same day. Within 5 minutes the guy said the regulator was never attached and it was sitting right next to the gas line downstairs. He then fixed the problem and got the fireplace working within 30 minutes.

We have just recently moved to Charlotte and moved into a lovely 1950’s brick ranch with a gas powered fireplace. Knowing nothing about this system, I called Owens Chimney, just out of the yellow pages, for an inspection to verify it’s safety and learn how to run it.
David arrived promptly at arranged time and was so helpful and professional. He answered questions I didn’t even know to ask and made me very comfortable with his knowledge and his patient kindness in my ignorance of the system and accomplishing the inspection effectively and efficiently.
I will certainly be keeping their card available whenever I need help in this area.

We had Owens out to take a look at the new digs, and while some work had already been done around the chimney, wouldn’t you know that it wasn’t done correctly?
Apparently the flashing around the chimney, between the bricks and the shingles, was put on wrong. I don’t actually know which way — but either it was on top of the shingles and it should have been under the shingles or it was under the shingles and it should have been under them. Either way, how badly does that suck?
While they were here, we also had them install a chimney cap, to keep the rain from coming in (as well as to keep birds from nesting), check out the chimney itself, and to rebuild the crown, which is the mortar on top. Once that was done, they waterproofed the whole thing, so now the chimney is once again doing it’s duty as intended. I hate when people don’t take care of things — mostly because it means i have to do it. Or pay someone to do so. But at least I know where to turn when I have to do it.
