Specialties
Open Water Adventures is a Scuba Adventure facility. We have been teaching Scuba for 23 years and leading groups on Dive Expeditions all over the world. We teach and outfit divers with quality equipment so they can safely enjoy the Sport of Diving. Our focus is on a quality experience from start to finish. We teach the most comprehensive and thorough program in the region.
OWA has our own heated pool on site that has been custom designed for teaching Scuba. This offers a big training advantage. We are able to simulate real world diving in our indoor facility.
Once our divers are certified we have a dive travel club, and we offer trips to Palm Beach, The Bahamas, Galapagos, Thailand, Fiji, NC Coast, Florida Keys and many other wonderful locations around the world.
We offer the areas largest selection of quality Scuba Gear. The Scuba Equipment we carry is carefully selected for quality and performance. The brands we carry represent the best in the industry.
History
Established in 1996.
Open Water Adventures was founded by Joe Gaydeski in 1996. The first location needed a huge makeover, so it took about 12 months to renovate and move in. Business took off quickly and OWA soon outgrew the space. A building with a pool had been a vision right from the start, so plans were drawn for a new location just a few hundred feet down the road.
The new location which opened in 2002 is one of the nicest in the country. The store is modern and inviting with the focal point being the indoor heated pool. The store has a much larger classroom and retail space to keep our divers comfortable and well equipped.
Open Water Adventures is celebrating 18 years in business, and we now have a Swim Lessons Program, and we are growing steadily. We have made many improvements over the years and continue to do so daily.
We have always focused on a quality experience, and will continue to do so for as long as the local community will allow.

Business Owner
Joe Gaydeski is the founder of Open Water Adventures. He began his Scuba Career in the Charlotte area in 1990 when he became an Open Water Certified Scuba Diver. He was offered a job in the industry shortly after, and started as an equipment service technician. As time went by he worked his way through the various levels of certification required to become a Scuba Instructor, and then eventually an Instructor Certifier. He has been in the industry full time since 1990.
Joe has traveled all over the world leading groups of divers on Scuba Adventures. He started Open Water Adventures in 1996 and has grown the business on a few basic beliefs: teach people well, provide them with quality equipment, take them on adventures, treat customers like family and friends, and provide good service.
Joe has a passion for Scuba in general, however his first love is underwater photography. He enjoys sharing the underwater world through images and enjoys teaching others the art of taking pictures.
