NTB – National Tire & Battery

Called and said I needed tires put on my car and that I was bringing in my own. Waited for ½ hr and they took my car back, mechanic came back and said its our policy that we don’t put on used tires… Why didn’t they ask me that on the phone? Just stupid working there!

Um no! So… where do I begin? I know enough about cars and the Internet to find out what parts look like. So I knew my tires needed to be replaced. Came here for that purpose. They not only changed the tires but decided I need shocks and struts. Total labor and parts would be under $ 600. Okay. So I wait… parts show up… working on car. I am witness to other customers coming in and noticing 2 in particular are frustrated about either work never been started on their vehicles after it being left there for 2 days OR they feel there are sounds made now that didn’t exist before taking it in to this NTB. I admit I was nervous but I am a happy person so I sat there and chatted with customers and staff. Anyway, I finally get my keys after 4 hrs… understand I have an economy car. I drive down the street and get to Nordstrom’s area which means 7 min (or less) from store. I have to pull over and stop. I was hearing this horrible noise that sounded like the car was about to come apart. I stopped and called. Two techs came and one drove me back while the other drove my car back. The tech driving with me… we were behind my car and we could hear this loud clicking. It was horrible. Now we are back at NTB and they tell me the wrong part was ordered and delivered or just delivered wrong. Understand I had to be on the other side of town by 6pm and they knew this! Clearly wasn’t going to happen now. So I sit and wait for new part to arrive. It arrives, it is put on and I drive away. Now as I am driving away, I feel the same problem but I can’t stop and return because they are closing and I need to work the next day. I haven’t been back since but I spoke to the district manager who said he would see what he could do. No there was no money taken off at all. And I had to shell out an additional $ 55 for the appointment I missed! Oh and kicker? They wanted me to spend more money on an Axel that they clearly missed the first time when they put on the shocks. I was then told «the sounds you were hearing were 2 sounds not one»… Um, there were no sounds with my old tires and former struts and shocks. Now I have other problems after being at NTB. No one is even trying to call to explain away. And the Dealership looked over the same car a day later (brought in by a friend) and they tell me brake pads were dangerously thin and showed them! How the hell can NTB change 2 front tires and miss brake pads? Yeah I need an explanation!

If I could give no stars I would. Came in to have a set (4) of wheels balanced, 2pm was told to come back at 4pm, came back at 4 a tall black dude obviously a paper pusher tried to act like he was gonna do me a favor and get a deal by talking to some «mysterious» employee in the back. Like they were cutting side deals, came out asked what kind of wheels they were as if it really matters if all your doing is throwing it on a machine and sticking a weight on it. Proceeds to tell me he can not balance wire wheels because of how the wires are placed, this idiot prob gets that slack attitude to past others and get away with it but it don’t take a moron to know how to balance a wheel ESPECIALLY since I have been going there for 20 yrs and having sets done in the past. This guy should be fired for trying to pocket money on the side and for his lack of being able to successfully bs a customer who has worked in the auto industry for 25 yrs I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy gets a few hundred bucks a day doing side deals on company dime. STAY AWAY

Came in for an oil change because of a promotion they were running online ($ 19.99). I was greeted by someone I assume is in management. A mechanic was present and was having a conversation with him about how he was ready to be off work. When I requested that he also rotate my tires (which is clearly mentioned in the promotion) he made it seem like it was an inconvenience and cracked his neck. Overall, can’t say that I would come back if they weren’t running a special promotion. I don’t feel that the mechanic acted in a professional manner or that he genuinely respected me as a paying customer.

Went here on a Sunday early morning to get my flat tire fixed. Had a flat tire late in the afternoon on Saturday and good thing for AAA by the time they came it was 7:30 PM. Got the dough nut but all the stores were closed at this hour.
Looked online to find a place that was open on Sunday. NTB was open. Took car to the closest shop and the guy there had horrible customer service. He did not seem to care and said that I would have to wait. No follow up on how long would it take. I needed the tire fixed in order to head into work at the convention today. Who knows when he was going to get to work on the tire.
Will not be coming back here again. Many other NTB shops in Charlotte. See my review on NTB at Arrowood Road.

I’m just going to copy and paste my complaint e-​mail …
MY STORE EXPERIENCE WAS TERRIBLE. First of all, I don’t know if it’s because I am a female and you guys think you can pull the wool over my eyes but you are insane if you think I’m going to let you charge me 100 $ to run a diagnostic on my car before I GET THE OIL CHANGED. You do realize I can get a diagnostic run on my car FOR FREE right? You also realize you don’t have that clearly stated ANY where that is a company policy and also it is not a NC state law. Therefore, essentially, what you are doing is gouging your customers and attempting to squeeze every last dollar out of them you can. You have lost my business FOREVER and I will be telling everyone I know about it. Also, if I had just done a quick Google search of your company I would have never taken my car there in the first place. People consistently complain about your high prices, about you trying to pull the rug over their eyes with prices, and about bad management.
Is this why you re-​branded from Tire Kingdom? Thought with a new name and shiny new stores people would pay more? I can tell you one thing, I’d take my car to a Mom and Pop and pay $ 40 for an oil change before I would EVER step foot back into a NTB. You seriously need to reconsider your pricing structure. If you are going to offer oil changes and make up arbitrary rules for your companies benefit about check engine lights I highly suggest you offer it for free. If anyone pays you 100 $ to run a diagnostic they are smoking just as much crack as you are.
Oh and lastly, did you idiots even know that NEEDING an oil change can cause your check engine light to come on? I would be PISSED if I paid you 100 $ to tell me that I needed an oil change which is why I brought it there in the first place. Seriously, get it together.

— oh this is good, when you’ve been putting the wrong oil in his car for a fucking year and YOU CAUSED HIS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON.





Seriously have you even READ THE REVIEWS of your company online? Apparently you people are notorious for trying to rip people off. Thank God I know better (yes, even if I am a GIRL). I pity the fool that takes his car to any NTB. I don’t know how you people sleep at night. Oh, and now you can add my bad review to the list which will be a copy and pasted version of this email. :)

The place is shown on Google maps as NTB but actually it is Tire Kingdom. They are one company but NTB has larger facilities. So, in short it is misleading and my precious tall vehicle can’t fit here. It’s and old facility. I wouldn’t trust it leaving nice import here.

I originally bought tires here and at the time bought a package for four tire rotations an alignment and a oil change over the course of the next year.
From day one I regretted my decision. I will first start off by saying they were always pleasant to work with and always willing to fix their mistakes. But there were far to many mistakes and no extra customer service or comps thrown in for my troubles.
To begin with they did not do an initial alignment as promised when installing the new tires. In addition, the balancing was done incorrectly because they used the wrong plate or something to balance it on. (I was told this on the third attempt when they went to another location to get borrow the right plate). If my car got above 50 miles an hour it began to shake violently until it got to just over 60 (Thankfully I never had to try to explain that to a cop for going 10 over). I took it back two more times before they got it right. Total of three trips. Each time was more time out of my schedule. I even tried to set an appointment and was told that they didn’t make them. (I later found out this was bad info by an ill-​informed rep).
I took it back for a rotation but even after explaining all I had been through with them they did not take any extra care and sure enough the car started shaking again on the way home so I had to bring it back and have my wheels re-​balanced. More time.
I did at one point take my car back for a punctured tire. The price was very fair and they fixed it right. But they promised to call me when my car was done. After hours of waiting I dropped by (I had been out with a friend and it was on the way back). My car had been done for a while but no one notified me that I could have picked it up earlier.
The guys are always respectful and friendly and the prices are fair but their attention to detail and customer service when things go wrong could be vastly improved.
Someone asked where to buy tires and I told them to check other places before heading here. It reminded me that a review was long overdue.

Spreading my oil change work around until I find the five star place, I found a coupon for Tire Kingdom and headed here. No complaints, but I’m not blown away.
The customer waiting area has wi-​fi and a television (tuned to Fox News).
They did good work. Maybe not speedy, but good. There is plenty nearby to do while you’re waiting.
