History

Established in 2004.

Nona’s Sweets Bakery Café is a family owned and operated business. The name «Nona» means grandmother in Italian. Papa Nick, Nona Jo-Ann, daughter Dominica, and Anne started the business making fantastic wedding cakes, grooms cakes and celebration cakes. We wanted to pay tribute to our nonas and bring our guests the same treats we have enjoyed for many years in our family. The café portion of the business «papa’s eats» is for our Papa Nick. Boy can he make a good sandwich, and that inspires us each day. We continue to make new and creative menu items, so there is always something exciting to try as well as many of the traditional nostalgic favorites.

Manager

My family is from Endicott NY, a small town in upstate N.Y. We moved to Charlotte in 1995 with IBM. We started making cookies, and treats for our new friends and family at church. We heard over and over that there was a need for a real bakery in the area. We grew our business out of our home, making cakes and cookies. As word spread we decided to open a bakery. I opened Nona’s Sweets Bakery with our family in 2004. I am a real people person and enjoy meeting our customers, and hearing something reminds them of their childhood or their Nona. That brings me joy. I take great pride in what our team does everyday. They are awesome, and we are blessed to have them, and you as a new customer!
