Last Place On Earth

This is an awesome store. I sometimes just visit to see all of the cool pets or if you are looking to get something unique they have it all.
My son got his snake here a few years ago and a cute new puppy this year. The employees are so much more knowledgeable than the corporate pet store employees and they really care that their animals get a good home. The puppies are all from certified breeders and never from a puppy mill and you can tell their quality when you see them.

Staff is helpful and extremely knowledgable. I usually purchase fish from their facility. When my fish were dying, they tested my water and told me EXACTLY what I needed to do to improve the quality of my water. And it worked.

Not impressed. Went in looking for puppies. Painted across their front window is something along the lines of ‘Charlotte’s #1 Puppy Supplier’ (paraphrasing). They had 3 puppies in the store and said they wouldn’t have anymore for several weeks.
When asked specific questions about their suppliers, answers were vague and unsatisfactory (puppy mills, I’m guessing). I spent a few minutes (10ish, maybe?) looking at one of the pups, and was starting to consider one of the others, but was then run off by a clerk who said that, «You can’t just play with the puppies all day.» Well, guess what, Lady? If you seriously expect to consider spending almost $ 1,000 on a puppy I could get in lots of other places for $ 350-​$ 400, then you need to be a lot nicer to your potential customers. Perhaps invest in some customer service training.
All in all, staff was unhelpful and unknowledgeable about their inventory and animals in general. The woman in charge was downright rude. Not only will I not be buying a dog from them, I won’t purchase supplies there either. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

This is where I got my little baby Marley seven years ago. He’s by far the best thing decision I’ve ever made.
It doesn’t look like much from the outside. It’s at the end of a somewhat sketchy looking little strip mall on N. Tryon. I still stop by Last Place on Earth every once in awhile to go say hi to the puppies. If you have no will power, I don’t recommend doing this. LPOE had the cutest little poms this week and it took everything I had to not leave with the black and tan one. He looked like a little raccoon.
LPOE has been around for over 30 years. It’s a family owned business. They have a little bit of everything here. Reptiles, fish, birds, weird things. They carry a lot of specialty food/​items.
In terms of the puppies, they say they’ve worked with the same breeders for two decades and they do not support puppy mills. You can find a lot of the designer breeds here. They also guarantee a year of health. I’m not sure what the fine print of that is, so take that for what it’s worth. I’ve witnessed on my trips there that the dogs are out of the cages a lot. Sometimes they’re eating… sometimes they’re playing out in the store. Seriously, if you have no will power… don’t come here. Puppies can melt the coldest of hearts.

I do not recommend going here.
I was searching for an independent little place to pick up dog food. The name almost turned me off, but I decided not to be so judgmental. It was really dirty inside and the animals in cages looked upset/​not taken care of. This place is the sort of place that might haunt you at night. If you are overly sensitive about animals (like me) then this is probably not the best place for you to check out.

Last Place on Earth is a small pet store so it’s not going to have the options and selections that major pet store chains have. So if you want to go into a pet department store and do all your one-​stop shopping for the month, this isn’t the place.
But I’ll tell you what LPOE has going for it. They aren’t trying to be a superstore. hey know exactly what they are, and they do what they do with friendly attention and truly caring sentiments toward their customers.
I buy my dog food there every few weeks and I can honestly say I truly enjoy going in there even if it’s only for a few minutes. I buy Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul food and they are one of only two places in the Charlotte area that carry it. They smile when I go in there. they know me by name, they pay attention to me if I ask them a question or make a comment, and they make me feel like they truly appreciate me as a customer.
That’s worth a ton in my book.

This is a convenient spot for me to stop and grab some crickets for my Geckos. Always very friendly service, can’t say much about their quality of pets they sell, as I use it for feed and supplies only.
Way better than hitting up Petsmart though, and cheaper too!
