HEROES AREN’T HARD TO FIND is one of the largest and most well-​known comics retailers in the country. We carry a complete line of new comics, graphic novels, and manga; as well as back issues, Silver and Golden Age comics, statues, specialty items, and our own line of comics collecting supplies. Located in the heart of the historic Elizabeth neighborhood near uptown Charlotte, we work hard to foster a family-​friendly atmosphere, while carrying an incredible diverse line of comics from every genre.

Heroes was started in 1980 by a then 26-​year-​old Shelton Drum, who had been selling comics at area flea markets for the last several years. A comic collector since childhood, Shelton began aggressively hunting out his favorite issues during the mid-60’s, after noticing that Amazing Spider-​Man #1 was selling for the then-​unbelievable price of ten dollars. «I knew right away that something was up, that these books were going to be worth money someday.»

Shelton Drum opened Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find in 1980 to provide comic books and collecting supplies to the Charlotte area. In 1982, Shelton founded Heroes Convention, one of America’s longest running and most beloved comic conventions.

This place is really great. I am not a comic book person, but my fiancé loves reading graphic novels, and this place has tons of both. They have everything from new releases to high value collector comics and comic paraphernalia.
The store itself is also really sunny and inviting, which is nice contrast to your stereotypical basement comic book store. The staff is also very friendly and helpful.
Luckily they have a bench for the tired significant others ;)

On a road trip across America and we made our stop into Heroes. My bf had been here once about a year ago and had a really good experience. Seth the manager greeted us right away. We asked if they had the Doctor Strange hip hop variant. Nope. Oh well. We looked around, they have a wide selection of titles especially from independent publishers. We were looking for Southern Bastards 1 first printing (I have the 3rd printing only) and whaddya know, they had a pretty bad a$$ variant behind the counter! Sold! Seth points to the guy ringing up the transaction, «yeah he did the coloring for the firsr two SB issues» Um WHAT! «Yeah he did Spider-​Gwen too» WHAT THE!!! Its Mr Rico Renzi! So yeah we got another bada$$ variant of Spider-​Gwen. Rico Renzi signs it as well as the SB variant which had Jason Latour’s signature on it too – squeal! Mr Renzi told me about what it was like to work for Image and DC/​Marvel. How cool of him to take the time to chat. Seth was super-​friendly too asking us about our road trip. Overall this was one of the highlights. We’re definitely coming back! Thank you, HARHTF!

Tons of comic books here, but lighter on other items. Come here first if comic books are your priority. If you are looking for things other than comic books for your inner geek, I would recommend checking out another place instead.

This is a great store for all ages. it has something for everyone. I can easily spend an hour in the store discovering the new as well as the old that I loved growing up. They probably like it better when I’m zipping through for that quick present for someone. The quick trips I can never decide & easily whiz through & find so much that I just grab them all & than sort through the stack later. The staff is so friendly & helpful to point me in the direction of exactly what I’m searching for.

On a business trip to Charlotte and stopped in to check it out. This place is definitely a place for comic book enthusiasts. A lot of comic shops these days have diversified by including a lot of table top games, figurines, and other nerd gear. The only things you’re going to find at Heroes is comics (and graphic novels — duh) and high end figurines. If that’s your bag, this place is great. Staff CLEARLY knows their shtuff and seemed really friendly. I’m not a die hard comic guy (never been able to get into weekly issues) and was hoping to find more of the comic/​games store but I think it’s a great shop for what it is. Fact is im probably not their target audience and that’s all gravy.

New to Town so I was looking for a new local comic shop. I met the owner as soon as I walked in the door, set up a pull list super quick and even got a discount on my first purchase. This store is super nice, very clean and organized so I can see why it was so busy. I can’t wait to pick up this weeks books!

Small comics shop with a good selection. These folks are experts and can answer just about any question you might find. And since I know little about comics and such, I brought my daughter who found specific comics she wanted.
Nice offering of statuettes and figurines. The Spidey hanging from the wall was very cool.
You’ll find more parking behind the shop than to the side, but they share with Starbucks.

This is a great comic shop. It is family friendly and usually has some kind of event going on every so many months. They are very loyal to their customers and provide a wide variety of comics to choose from. If you have any questions they’re happy to help and if you’re looking for suggestions they usually have a good one! The only drawback is the parking; because of it’s popularity it gets a little crowded.

I have been going to Heroes since I was a little kid. They have been in 3 locations over this time period. It’s the premier comic store in NC. They have literally every comic ever printed. Highly recommend.

Great selection of comics and graphic novels. No doubt about that. If it’s recent, they probably have it. No one else in the area stocks as much as they do. However, their prices are retail and most of their back issues are a little above cover price, even if they feature Quasar or are swirling around the drain in the $ 0.25 bin at other shops. They have back issues, but only a select few are available for browsing. Have a list? They can have someone find the issues for you. You”re not just going to go in and spend hours thumbing through long boxes. In this regard, Heroes acts more like a comic book boutique than your usual comic book shop. They have a great selection, but the trade off is higher prices. That can be a fair deal if you have the cash to spare. Me? I’m on a tighter budget usually. That being said, they put on one of the best conventions in the business.

THE GOOD:
Great selection. I am an avid collector of statues and some comics. You need something, they can order it for you. The people that work there really care about people and their customers. Their knowledge is insane. Located next to a Starbucks, this neighborhood comic book shop packs a punch.
THE BAD:

This local little treat is truly a diamond but the ‘rough’ around it is just as unique and lovely. Do Not let the size of this place fool you there are walls upon walls of books just out of your eye line. I came there looking for a ‘I went to Charlotte and I love you gift” I however left with only stuff for me. I Most enjoyed how clean the establishment was and how well organized and neat everything was in the boxes. Many comic shops I have been to were very dirty and dim more like a cave, not this one. Their action figures and models seemed freshly dusted and cleaned, the floors vacuumed and clutter free. The man who helped me I think his name was Dave, was VERY knowledgeable, kind, and charming. Their Overall selection was not as vast as some I had been to however the quality was much much higher than others so totally worth it. If theres one place to get comcs in charlotte its Heroes: D

If you like comics, graphic novels, interesting storylines of all kinds, then this is the place for you, especially if you like to be left alone to browse through on your own.
It’s a small space, but well organized.
It seemed to be understaffed and also, if you aren’t a regular then it might take you a while to get any information. Sales clerks/​staff seem to be there for the regulars to converse with about all things comic.
They don’t have any clothing or stickers or posters. They have lots of statues & busts.
It was interesting to look around and know it as a resource.

After stopping in a couple more times to get my fix of Walking Dead and Fables comics, the owner has started to recognize me by face and name. I’ve had random nerd sessions with other regulars and staff alike geeking about zombies, Stan Lee and the comics to movies phenomena. I’ve also started to learn about the «indie» comic culture.
If it wasn’t for the fact I can’t leave this store without an arm full of new comics, I don’t think I’d ever leave.

Pretty great comicbook store. They offer some books as well as some collectable items.
Overall I was just trying to kill some time and reminiscence of my childhood reading comics… but I ended up getting a new comic while in there.
The cashier knew a lot about the particular comic I chose and we had a nice conversation before I left.

Want to know how awesome Heroes is? I’ve never spent a penny in the store, but Phil knows my name and asks me about how my job is every time I’m in the store. Now that’s service!
Not that he doesn’t see me most Wednesdays, which comic book fans the world over know is the day the new comics come out. And while I’m not much for superheroes, my boyfriend is, so I’ve gotten used to his Wednesday night errands. Before moving to Charlotte, it was a trip I dreaded and usually promises of beer and pizza were required to get me to set foot in the creepy, dingy store he used to visit. Not so with Heroes. I’m more than happy to tag along, read the latest Creative Loafing and follow the shopping trip with a salad from Crisp. That’s right. It only takes a salad bribe to get me into Heroes. It’s that good.

Heroes is the best comic store my hubby and I have ever visited. They have a huge stock of comics, the décor is super cool, and there are no staff nicer than at Heroes.
Phil usually works Saturday mornings, and we love chatting with him — he’s just the nicest guy. Both regulars and new customers are welcome here.
There are comfortable benches along the windows, and they always play awesome music. What a great place!

Heroes is a comic person’s heaven. I’m not into comics, but I learned about this strange world very quickly when my hero, Alice Cooper, launched three comic books in the mid-​90s to coincide with his album «The Last Temptation.»
I was in school at Appalachian State U at the time — no one in Boone had Alice’s comic books when they each came out. I called Heroes in Charlotte, told them what I wanted and where I was coming from, and they held it for me while I drove the two hours down from Boone. (Yes, I am an insane Alice Cooper fan.) One of those three comic books is now inscribed to me and autographed by Alice, and is one of my most treasured possessions.
A big thank you to Heroes for putting up with someone who was only into the strange world of comics for three issues.
