We are an independent Tire Sales and Automotive Repair facility specializing in steering and suspension components, engine diagnostics and repair, drivability issues, Air conditioning, and preventitive maintenence just to name a few. Among the brands that we represent are Michelin, BFGoodrich, Uniroyal, Continental, General, Giovanna, Maas, Pacer, HRE, Kumho, Nitto, and Amsoil.

History

Established in 1961.

In 1961, brothers, Larry Griffin Sr and Ronnie Griffin, purchased Honest Recapping from an uncle. The original location was where I-​77 crosses Trade St. Soon after, the company was renamed Griffin Brothers Tire Sales and was moved to the more well known location on W. Trade Street. In 1978, they expanded with the opening of a store on Albamarle Rd.

In the Early 1980’s, with both brothers family’s growing, they decided to part ways. Larry kept the Trade St Location and the name, and Ronnie renamed the Albamarle Rd location Griffin Tire.

Throughout the 1980’s two more Griffin Tire locations were opend including the store at 4600 Brookshire Blvd in 1989.

In the mid 90’s Ronnie retired from the business, leaving his son Clay to continue the fast, friendly service that customers had come to expect from Griffin Tire.

With the opening of this new location in late 2010, we look to offer the same great service and and convenience that folks have come to expect from Griffin Tire.

Manager

Brad Griffin became an employee of Griffin Tire in August 2010 after returning to Charlotte from college at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He worked for the company part time through high school trying to learn as much as he could about vehicle maintenance and repair, and especially enjoyed working with wheel customers trying to find something special to make their car pop!

Although his experience as a manager is limited, he looks to take the knowledge and skills learned in the Business Management program in the Cameron School of Business as well as the experience gained from growing up around the business to improve on the already proven record of sucess that the Griffin name brings to Charlotte.
