Freedom Park

I love this park!
It helps that it’s walking distance for me. I love that it’s connected to the sugar creek path for additional walking.
One thing you want to keep your eyes out for Cooper head snakes. They like to Sun by the water.
I wouldn’t let that deter you at all from coming. They have great spaces for playing base ball, soccer, swings, play areas for kids, picnic areas, a lake to walk around. All in all a stunning park!

This is a gorgeous park, and everything you’d expect from a park in Charlotte. There are green trees, walking trails, fountains and lakes, and even a nature center. They even sell fresh lemonade (which was a bit sweet for my taste, but hey, it’s amazing that they offer it). Perfect place for kids, dogs, and a great day out with the family. They even have a real train for the kiddos to play in and explore (just the nose of the train is accessible), but great for photos. My only complaint is parking! On a busy weekend, the spaces fill up quick!

This is a great park not too far from the center of Charlotte. I visited Charlotte for the weekend and enjoyed stopping by for some exercise and fresh air.
I especially like three things about the park: the lake, the Panthers gym thing, and the proximity to the Little Sugar Creek Greenway.
The lake is one of the main features of the park. A nice paved trail goes all the way around it. The lake isn’t too small, but you can easily go around it several times. Near one end is an island connected by a bridge. The island has a stage (which you can see from my picture), and the seats for the stage are on the mainland. Nothing was going on when I visited, but it looks like a good place for little shows. You could put an impromptu show on yourself.
The Panthers gym thing was my favorite. It’s kind of like an obstacle course, and it’s sponsored by the Carolina Panthers. It has a lot of stuff: a 40-​yard timed dash, a series of ramps for running (you have to see it to really understand it), a ladder drill, a rock climbing obstacle, a slanted rotating wheel, a balancing rope bridge, and probably something else that I’ve forgotten. My favorite parts were the running ramps (they’re slanted so that you can run parallel to the ground for a second) and the timed 40-​yard dash.
Finally, the park is right on the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, so you can stop by the park on your walk down the greenway, or you can get even more exercise when you’re finished with the park. I used the convenient, free parking lot right at Freedom Park, but you could park somewhere else on the greenway and walk to park.

To kill a few hours before our flight, we found this park via Unilocal and wanted to take our son exploring. This park was poppin’ at 10 in the morning, full of activities for little ones and older kids. There is also a trail that you can walk around and just enjoy the scenery, the quiet, and be out from the city.

Aside from the rare child-​attacking constrictor loose in the Park this has been a pleasant place with lots of Potential for Romance! A BIG part of the Attraction is the People this Park Attracts… like that BookSigning or Movie Premier that you care so little about except you want to see who is going to be there! You never know who you might meet, I’m not talking about Celebrities, unless they are Unilocal celebrities!
Love Love LOVE ! Even though I never visited this place as a Teenager, it takes me back, back, all the Way Back to a time when Love was free (NOT $$$FREE) This is NOT Deutschland and Public Nudity is a Crime! If you are a Dude you can probably get away with going shirtless and shoeless… When its warmer you are likely to be very Entertained just watching what the other people are acting as if they have wings! This is the Best place for LoveFest in the Charlotte Area that I can think of… Don’t get too carried away, it can go ON your Permanent Record, which could make it harder to get IN certain Colleges, though perhaps easier to get in others!

Beautiful park with a lovely walking trail. I am definitely going to go back and see if I can find trails that go a little farther it was a small circle for a long dog walk. The trees and pond were gorgeous.

What a beautiful place to come to and spend time. Their are people everywhere in Hammocks and having a nice little picnics. Dogs and runners everywhere and the water fountains add a nice touch. Its a good walk from uptown (only about 3 miles) — so Im able to pick up the Sugar Creek Greenway in Metropolitan and walk over.

This park is absolutely beautiful! I’m most impressed by the massive playground for the kids! I last visited on a Sunday and the entire park was packed with people! I enjoyed walking the path throughout the park! I would love to come back here for a run! I see that construction is still underway for areas of the park which definitely enhance the experience here in the near future! There is a kiosk where you can rent a bike. I will definitely take advantage of that next time! This is definitely a lovely place to visit!

Great park for dogs, families, kids, and everyone else. Only downside is the fact this park gets pretty crowded on sunny days, and can take away from all the pros.

Undoubtedly one of my favourite places in charlotte when the current weather is fine. There is some great walking trails which are excellent for taking a jog or walking your dog. It is undoubtedly a great park in the event that you are seeking to take your children-​the playground is enormous and extremely creative! There is always people about, so despite it’s closeness to uptown it feels quite safe and I never feel uneasy seeing alone at any given time of day.

Definitely one of my favorite spots in charlotte when the weather is nice. There’s some great walking paths that are fantastic for taking a jog or walking your dog. It’s definitely a great park if you’re looking to take your kids-​the playground is huge and very creative! This park is amazing! Took my girls to the playground and they had a blast. The Panthers training area is really cool and I was completely impressed with all the stuff there. Other than the play areas there’s plenty of walkways and beautiful scenery to enjoy. I can’t wait to take my girls back again.

My favorite place in Charlotte to just hang out or go for a walk. The part is located in a very cool area with some amazing houses. I brought my family here when they were visiting and got to see my nephew play in the nursery. Very friendly folks everywhere and if you are visiting on a game night walk over to the soccer field and you might get to watch a fun game :).
Also take the side route into the nature museum and walk along the path, very woody and relaxing!

One of my favorite parks in Charlotte! (There are so many to choose from). It reminds me of a smaller version of Central Park in NYC with the lakes and the bridges. Beautifully maintained and landscaped. They have bikes to rent (need to try this next time), an amphitheater, picnic areas, etc. perfect for dog walking!

Freedom park is very large and beautiful. This was my second time coming here. This visit I came for an event at a shelter. I liked how the bathrooms were inside. Our shelter had a few problems. The light was broken and was very dark. The picnic tables were very uncomfortable. The grills were good and we had a yummy dinner on it.

I visited this park last month and it was vibrant, and full of people. They have a nice track/​pathway that circles the park. There is also a museum immediately off of the park which is awesome if you have children.
I would definitely revisit this park for walks or a bike ride.

Personally, Freedom Park is like a minature Central Park (NYC). As I walk from the Little Sugar Creek Greenway to Freedom Park, the adventure continues. It’s a hidden treasure.
Basketball Court, Tennis Courts, Little League baseball, Volley Ball court and Soccer Field, etc… not to mention the Children’s playground with a Choo Choo train on the side. Yes, you will find me in the swing area resting up and catching my breath before continuing on with my power walking routine.
Cute little stone bridges and overpass. Fun to watch people with fishing poles by the Duck Pond. Always, wonder what will be the catch of the day.
Bandstand on the weekends, you see groups practicing salsa dancing and other art forms.
There is a row of bikes available for rental. Definitely, plan to ride all over Charlotte, best means of travel.
Smell the barbeque and families/​friends get together for a picnic. It’s like an escape from the big city life when you venture into Freedom Park.
Freedom Park is perfectly mapped out for just about anyone for it fills the needs of the community and their recreational appetites. Alway, something fun to do.

This park is just amazing! Well maintained, miles of incredible trails, acres and acres of green space, full of trees, natural landscaping, water features, picnic areas, an amphitheatre, just wow! A real jewel of beautiful Charlotte!
We live in Dallas and only wish we had such beauty with such forest quality trees in such abundance and height. We look forward to our annual family visits to Charlotte so we can fitness walk, dog walk, and spend time in Freedom Park.

Beautiful park to run around! Reminds me of balboa park in San Diego. Very floral with an assorted array of places to walk around. There are also bikes to rent which seems like a pretty awesome deal!

Water. Fountains. Baseball. Paths. Trees. Ducks. Benches. Green-​ness.
