History
Established in 1983.
Dr. Richard Coe and Dr. Susan Coe, both graduates of Auburn University, established Animal Medical Hospital in 1983. After moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, they bought a 50-year-old home on Monroe Road and refurbished it as Animal Medical Hospital. By 1992, the practice had outgrown the space and it was replaced with a brand new veterinary facility at the same site. When the hospital moved into the new facility, it was awarded «Hospital of the Year» by Veterinary Economics magazine. The hospital is comprised of a large treatment area providing space for care and treatment for outpatient services. Also included are an in-house laboratory and veterinary pharmacy. We have 6 examination rooms, grooming, a large in house boarding facility, an isolation ward, a 24 hour intensive care unit, a radiology room, and separate surgery and dental suites. We have recently added spacious, state of the art cat condos and a very large indoor/outdoor, climate controlled play and exercise area.
Meet the Business Owner
Dr. Richard and Dr. Susan C.
Business Owner
Dr. Susan Coe’s youthful interest in science and math, coupled with her innate love of animals, led to her decision to become a veterinarian. She finds all animal medicine exciting and challenging. Her special interests include dermatology, ultrasound, cardiology, internal medicine/endocrinology, and ophthalmology. Along with his wife, Dr. Richard Coe opened Animal Medical Hospital in 1983. After practicing veterinary medicine for many years, Dr. Richard Coe began to focus on the management aspect of running a hospital. Under Dr. Coe’s leadership, Animal Medical Hospital has become one of the largest general veterinary practices in the southeast. Dr. Richard Coe has felt over the years that it is important for Animal Medical Hospital to be innovative and, through that mindset, AMH became one of the first veterinary hospitals to use electronic medical records, and is the only 24-hour general veterinary practice in the area.
