History
Established in 1950.
Sergeant Jasper Apartments was named after William Jasper of the Revolutionary war. Jasper distinguished himself in the defense of Fort Moultrie on June 28, 1776. When a shell from a British warship shot away the flagstaff, he recovered the South Carolina flag, raised it on a temporary staff, and held it under fire until a new staff was installed. Governor Rutledge gave a golden sword to Jasper in recognition of his bravery. The golden sword is now in the possession of his great great great grandson Jeremy Jasper.

Business Owner
«We grew up in Charleston. We know the value of tradition and the importance of vision — and we are constantly adapting to stay ahead of the game.» John C.L. Darby, President and Chief Executive Officer
The Beach Company was founded in 1945 by J.C. Long, one of South Carolina’s modern pioneers in real estate development. The company that would become his family’s heritage and one of the most recognizable names in the Lowcountry, was officially born when Mr. Long purchased and began to develop the Isle of Palms.
Today, over 60 years later and still privately owned, The Beach Company has expanded exponentially under the leadership of Chairman Charles S. Way, Jr. and President/CEO John C.L. Darby.
The company has added new capabilities, explored new markets and taken on exciting new challenges– all while successfully completing innumerable projects including some of the most recognizable names in the region– such as Kiawah Island and Majestic Square
