As far as bars on James Island are concerned, JIB&G is one of the better ones, but that’s not saying a ton. Best thing about JIB&G is it’s cheap. It would definitely be considered a «dive» but it’s a bit nicer than Recovery Room or the old Big John’s. JIB&G has a nice outside area with a covered bar and TVs, and a large sand area with cornhole and a ping pong table. Inside is much better now since they dis-allowed smoking. Although I’ve been there for karaōke, which needs to go the way of smoking. I’ve never eaten there and honestly have no idea if they even have food. Definitely a go-to place when on James Island.

I don’t understand why people would go to a local bar and then get upset when they are surrounded by locals. IBG is a place where most people go at the end of the day who work food and bev to unwind and have some cocktails. I have never once seen a customer disrespected or treated poorly by the staff. The most problems that come from this place are from drunken tourists in PFG shirts being too loud and demanding to be treated like royalty because they feel they are special. Just enjoy your two dollar beer and watch the games on the flat screen without screaming loud enough to ruin everyone’s evening and you won’t have a problem. If you’re respectable you will be treated well here. It surprised me to see this place getting a bad rap, as it is one of my favorite places in Charleston.

Hey everyone, just wanted to clear a few things up on here. Claire C.- Your picture-less profile and single review were just the initial part of your review that left me skeptic. No one has ever been kicked out of our establishment for ordering a non-alcoholic drink, that claim is just absurd. We strongly encourage designated driving and would never even question a reason for someone to not drink. I’m not sure what you mean by us being a «scam», and to call our bouncer, yes singular, «fascist» is ridiculous. Id’s are checked, and confrontations are handled reasonably and accordingly, and that is all. Finally, please know there is quite the difference between food upsetting your stomach, and food poisoning. That aside, your claim of the fish tacos causing this holds no validity. Your review was made three months ago, I have worked here for the past 2 ½ years, and we have never offered any fish on our menu what so ever. I don’t know if you are a disgruntled patron who had a bad experience with us or are holding a grudge over a completely different incident, and making up stories for a bad Unilocal review made you feel better, but your fake review is highly unappreciated. The date of this post also struck me as suspicious. On Saturday, October 18th, the same date of this review, we held a private event for a group of College students. This was the first event in which we allowed underage patrons into our bar. Those of-age were given wrist bands, and those underage were watched closely, some of whom were asked to leave if they were caught trying to consume alcohol. If you were one of these students, that was us doing our job correctly. J K.- This is just a simple, and unfortunately common misunderstanding. Your review is of «The Grill and Island Bar», which is located on Folly Beach. We are«Island Bar and Grill», located on James Island. We pride ourselves in having a clean and friendly atmosphere, with great service. If there is ever a problem with anything, please ask for management. I will personally make sure that the issue gets resolved in a way that will make your visit with us a pleasant one! Thank you for your time!

The place felt very cheap and very divey. but not in a good way. As is typical with several places on James Island, the people were not very classy and the location was not very classy. I came out wishing I hadn’t gone. If you’re looking for a good place with similar atmosphere on James Island, there are much better options. Better yet, just go downtown. At least the places are cleaner and surely you can find somewhere with just as cheap of alcohol and have more fun.

We were staying in Folly and didn’t want to drive downtown and like to support the locals. Nice location and atmosphere, but for $ 10 apps and $ 20 entrees I suggest trying another venue. The good: anything fried was as expected and tasty, the shrimp and grits were good but odd with the addition of peppers The bad: coconut shrimp were just regular fried shrimp laying in coconut milk type sauce– no shredded coconut in sight as part of the coating, the crab cakes are a nice portion size and have plenty of crab meat but are mushy and lack seasoning.

The back bar area is great. Cool bar to catch your favorite game and enjoy the beautiful Charleston weather. Heaters in the winter and fans in the summer. The sand area is perfect for the beach style cornhole setup. You can spend hours on the ring toss game! Karaōke.karaōke is what karaōke is! You can catch some really amazing singers in here. Annnnnd well sometimes… not! :-) It’s karaōke, it’s fun for all. Watch out for the bumping and grinding on the dance floor! IBG is very dog friendly. Bring yours and let them run around out back. I’m sure they’ll be another pup or two for them to play with.

This used to be a fun place to come and do karaōke but unless you’re into hearing people scream lyrics to songs they barely know at the top of your lungs, I’d suggest waiting until there is an actual band in play. The guy in the booth seems to only like harsh rap music and takes beers from people to be pushed to the front of the line. I will say that the backyard is a really cool scene so that’s the only reason I rate then half way.
