«Hotel From Hell!»
In over 40 years of traveling I have never experienced a place such as this hotel!
WE called over a month ahead to make sure our beds were not overly soft as l have a back issue. When we arrived our beds were so soft it was like falling into a marshmellow.
The thermostat in our room was impossible to control… we got up three times in the middle of the night to try to adjust our room temperature that went from freezing to boiling hot. Both stoppers int he bathtube and sink were broken and the hotel never responded to repair them. The curtain pulls didn’t work… and much more. Worst of all the noise after 1 AM was very disturbing. One night our neighbors and I heard gun shots. The next day the managers said it was just «another rowdy crowd». The management needed sensitiviety training as they couldn’t care less about our compaints and really didn’t remedy them. From what we understand the police had to be called in twice and there is no hotel security guard on duty. If Hilton Hotels are all like this one I will never recommend any of them to friends or my worst enemies! Our sleep was constatnly interrupted during the night, making our trip to Charleston miserable. There was also early morning construcction going on outside our side of the
The «complimentary» breakfast (something Denny’s wouldn’t dare serve) was so bad that it was inedible!!!

I REALLY enjoyed this hotel that was recommended to me by my manager. It’s a nice hotel right smack in the middle of the historic area of Charleston. Plenty of restaurants and bars and coffee shops within walking distance. I haven’t been to Charleston in a long time and I really enjoyed the southern welcoming feel of this hotel. When you walk up to the entrance there’s a long porch extending along the front of the hotel complete with ceiling fans and rocking chairs. I drank a sweet tea outside and felt like I was transported to the Gone With the Wind days. Another nice surprise was when I checked into my room, I was given a corner room on the top floor. I had an extra window which made the room appear sunnier and welcoming. My favorite part of the whole room was that I had a balcony!!! It had 2 chairs and a small table and I drank my decaf coffee at night listening to the Charleston breeze! I would definitely stay at this place again!

Kevin the concierge is amazing. There is nothing by way of restaurant availability this entire weekend but with Kevin we got reservations at two of the most exclusive restaurants in town. Very engaging, professional and a pleasure to deal with. He also booked us into a walking tour and directed us to the best picture opportunities and historic sites in town. Thank you Kevin you made our weekend.

This place is great. Friendly staff; very accomplished and hospitable. The Bistro restaurant in the lobby area was different from the other hotels we visit: open and welcoming. First looked like a fast food joint but, very comfortable and inviting. It is true the food and service were indeed fast but, of exceptional quality and, the alcoholic beverage far exceeds any chain restaurants servings which, I know, does not really grant justice, so, let me say: the drinks are great too. Would have given five stars but for the traffic noise which can be very loud sitting out on the balcony. Of course this is to be expected being right in the middle of the down town historic section of Charleston (the traffic noise mostly came from the busses. It would be a great improvement if the city converted them to electric), offering a great location to walk the whole historic area: which we loved. The view was great; good for people watching. Would definitely stay at this Marriott again.

During your stay, go speak to Kevin, the Concierge. He has tons of maps and lists of spots you have to visit, that you most likely never would have. I mean really this guys LOVES his job. He totally hooked us up and we saw tons of amazing sites on our trip that we no doubt would have missed.
Also, the location is great as you’re only a block from King St.

Great location, very friendly staff. Best concierge I have come across in some time, Kevin McQuade. We had a nine people in our group including 5 kids with ages ranging from 8 to 15. He helped us organize two days in Charleston to really make the most of our time. He helped us decide which tours where the best, recommended restaurants, made reservations for us and even got us a private ghost tour with a great tour guide named Ed Macy. More on Ed in another review. Even if a Courtyard is not your first choice as a hotel the staff and Kevin made all the difference.

Out on the town for fun & alcohol. Decided to spend the night. Chose this hotel for the proximity to everything. I loved it. It’s big corporate busy & very well run. Décor was seasonal & very well done. The staff were great even though they are busy here. The rooms were clean & spacious overlooking the park. Loved it here. It met all my needs & perfect proximity to all the pubs & restaurants on Upper King. Then this morning we headed to Lower King to shop. I’ll definitely use this Marriott again. Even though I live in Mount Pleasant, I felt that I was on a mini vacation. The parking was $ 18 & I got two passes but just used one. Thinking they would not refund me the unused one… They did. Great service. Highly recommend this hotel.

Very nice rooms, great staff. The conceriege was highly advertised so we headed down, but he was too much of a salesman. I feel that he definitely receives kickbacks on things and instead of just giving information he kept booking tours and making reservations at restaurants that I really didn’t want. After speaking with my boyfriend we went back to our original itinerary and were very glad we did. However, his maps are very helpful though. I do recommend that you visit him, just take time to investigate his suggestions and do what you want

Very nice hotel, Kevin the concierge is delightful and totally animated and funny, and gave us great places to visit and eat.
The staff is friendly and helpful.
My one complaint? No makeup mirrors in the rooms! Hello? Do women not stay in the hotel?
The front desk was unconcerned with my request, but I won’t stay there again simply because of that need. Fix that and I will happily stay there again!

16 years ago, a flat tire prevented this honeymooning couple from spending the day in Charleston. Being a Midwestern girl who grew up enamored with Gone With the Wind and the romance of the south, I was so excited to see a plantation and step back in time to an bygone era. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. We spent the day in a tire shop in Columbia instead. Not quite as fun.
Finally, 16 years later we finally made it back, this time en route to Hilton Head. We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Historic District for one night, with no definite plans. We decided to ask the concierge if he had any restaurant suggestions for dinner.
Kevin McQuade, concierge extraordinaire, gave me the plantation experience I sadly missed so many years ago. He asked us our preferences, gave us some choices, hopped on the phone… and voila! We had a dinner reservation at Middleton Plantation. We toured the grounds before dinner, and I literally fell a little bit more in love with «the south.»
Hot, humid, ancient, lovely, peaceful, lush, haunting, and bittersweet. I felt the pull and tug of melancholy as I saw pieces of the past slipping farther into history. I felt the gladness of experiencing a salvaged gift, taking what Middleton has to offer us today.
Thank you, Kevin McQuade, for giving us a missing part of our honeymoon.

Huge fan of Kevin the Concierge! He knew all the secrets, all the great restaurants, and directed us to an amazing walking tour. Our room was lovely. I was able to use points (otherwise out of my price range) to cover most of our stay. We did have a moment with some folks making the odd choice to spread out their food and eat in the hallway between our room and the elevator. ?! So odd, but the staff took care of it. Everyone from the great cleaning staff to the super helpful front desk to Kevin the Concierge — great experience.

Love this hotel! Super clean, extremely friendly & professional staff, great location, pool & a Starbucks/​bistro/​bar in the lobby… EXCELLENT! Also, bed was very comfy and A/​C worked very well in room.

Got here at 4pm. Room not ready until 5:30. Reservations were made a month in advance. No apologies at front desk. Oh, and it’s $ 18/​day for parking in the Church parking lot across the street. Not even a garage and its $ 18!!! As I waited in lobby for 1.5 hours for my room to be ready after traveling all day I noticed everybody in Charleston stops in to use lobby bathroom and change in and out of bathing suits. Needless to say, the Lobby bathroom was a disaster. Not impressed thus far.

We had a night in the city before heading out to Isle of Palms, so we gave the Courtyard a shot. During our last visit to Charleston, we stayed in a much more upscale hotel and were highly disappointed with the tiny rooms and old amenities. The Courtyard was great. Very new and updated. Large rooms and a very big bathroom. Location is really good (short walk to everything). Parking is really easy ($ 18/​day). Free Wifi. I will definitely stay here again.

This Courtyard is located in the Charleston’s Historic district… an easy walk to the Market district. It’s also a few blocks from the docks/​waterfront and there are tons of restaurants in the area.
(Another Broken Egg, Coast, Charleston Grill, Noisy Oyster… just to name a few)
The hotel and the rooms are very clean… although on our way down to FLA, we were given a room in which someone had smoked a cigar. When I complained, they said it was a no smoking hotel… no smoking anywhere, but someone had obviously ignored this directive. We were offered another room but it was late and frankly the cigar must have been a good one because it wasn’t a bad/​funky smell. I kinda liked it although my wife would disagree. They did send up and ionizer which did help remove some of the smell.
The king size bed was very comfortable… the wife and I appreciated that.
Overall… a very nice hotel. THe hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Wifi was good… not great. as it dropped me and I had to log back on several times.
The only real complaint I have is the $ 18 fee for parking. This seems to be a trend now. I’ve been a member of Marriott for years and have found this fee annoying every time I come across it. I suppose they could charge more for the room to cover this «expense»… I mean I know I have to park somewhere… but why charge. The lot must be paid for a hundred times over!
Take this charge off and I’m giving this hotel 4.5 stars!

Nice hotel in a great location. Lots of cool things to see that are all walking distance. Very good service. I did think the price was a little high and don’t know if I would stay here again because of that.

Stayed here for a work trip. Perfect location for downtown. A block away from kings st and there is even a park across the street that’s nice. You can walk to any bar or restaurant within minutes.
Keep in mind you are going to pay $ 18 a night for parking and the parking garages nearby are $ 16 so it’s better just to park at the hotel where your car is closer.
The concierge girls are very friendly and helpful, they helped my buddy rent a car that he picked up 20 min after booking for a place down the st.
The mini fridge in my room was tiny and there was no microwave. You can go down to the lobby to use one there if you want though. Very clean rooms and good control of a/​c unit.

For a Courtyard Marriott, this was pretty good. However, for the exorbitant prices that were charged… not so much. I’m not sure if it is because of the location or the fact that there were a few weddings in town, but prices were high. They were more in line with 4 and 5 star hotels that I have stayed in the past. Therefore, this review is based on those comparisons.
Positives: Comfy bed, clean room, air conditioning, pool (albeit tiny), fast and efficient counter service, concierge, location, security entry in evening hours, wifi, bar and nice lobby bathrooms, fast housekeeping when requested extra towels, fitness room, computer to print flight tickets, held bags on checkout day until leaving for airport.
Negatives: Parking was cramped and we needed to park in fake spots despite having paid extra for parking, no shuttle service to airport, poor toiletries, stuck toilet paper dispenser, poorly responsive tv remote controller, no heat lamp or fan to defog bathroom, no complimentary breakfast or sit down restaurant (snack bar instead), no tourist pamplets (concierge was often busy), extremely slow elevators, poor noise insulation from hallway to room.
Many of the negatives I can deal with. We used public transportation on buses when needed and the city visitor center is about 3 blocks away. I recommend breakfast at the farmers market in the next door Marion Sq on Saturdays and Kudu coffee house a block over. Brunch/​lunch downtown is a pretty good value. Obviously, you are paying for location here. Nevertheless, I cannot rate this hotel highly unless its price drops below 200 per night consistently.

We spoke to Kevin the concierge at the courtyard Marriott. It makes it worth it to stay here just so that you can get his secret maps and tips! He is a fountain of useful information. One recommendation he gave us as we didn’t have a lot of time was to rent bicycles. We did and it was a wonderful feast for our eyes. We really had a great time. Thanks again Kevin you are the best!
The location if the hotel is quite ideal near shops and restaurants Lots of wonderful sights and good food to eat.

After spending 2 nights out in the Charleston suburbs — closer to the Plantations — we decided to spend 1 night in Charleston’s historic district at the Courtyard by Marriott. This hotel is ideally located and is an easy walk to the Main Visitor’s Center and to many of the sites within the historic district. The hotel was extremely clean and comfortable and was very quiet. Parking is an extra $ 15 per night in a garage/​parking deck adjacent to the hotel with full in and out privileges. The rooms were spacious and the beds were very comfortable. In addition to charging for parking, hotels in the historic district also do not provide the free breakfasts that are common in so many other hotels. However, there is an on-​site coffee shop (café) that had a nice variety of reasonably priced breakfast items.
Due to its proximity to the historic area and the comfort of our room, I’d return here for another visit and would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to be near the historic district.

This Courtyard is nicer than the Embassy in the area. It’s more modern, the facilities are nicer and newer and it seems more upscale. Those are the good things. No ghosts either!
Food and drink are not as good and is definitely more limited. I didn’t use the 24 hour snack bar, but that’s a sign that they realize that there isn’t as much to offer. Parking can be pretty challenging, as well.
I thought the staff was pretty friendly, but wasn’t able to use the concierge when I needed assistance.

Stayed here for two nights in May while I was visiting Charleston. Everyone was super nice from the front desk agent to the maid to the server on her break and especially Kevin and the assistant concierge.
While staying here one must spend some time with the concierge and get a walking map of Charleston and best places to take photos etc. He was very helpful in suggesting a hidden gem for dinner one night.
The three stars– The room needed some extra TLC like the vent in the bathroom was dirty and the soap holders needed some extra scrubbing. Also a few of the walls in the room needed extra cleaning as there were marks on the wall.
