History
Established in 1986.
Charleston Convention and Group Services was founded in 1986 by Erin Mellen. After graduating from Columbia College Erin traveled extensively through the US and Europe. After her husband’s retirement from the army in 1972 Pat urged Erin to move to Charleston where he had attended college at the Citadel. Yet undiscovered by the touring industry, Charleston showed the need for exciting ways to experience the city. Recognizing an opportunity, Erin and Pat started one of the first major per capita touring companies, Heritage Tours & Transportation. Importing Double Decker buses from England they provided the Charleston visitor with a new way to see the city. In 1986 Erin took this one step further incorporating CCGS. Together with dining, accommodations and special events she took touring into the fully planned experience for groups visiting the city. Now after 27 years, CCGS has not only the experience, but the expertise to provide the best planning service Charleston has to offer.
Meet the Business Owner
Erin M.
Business Owner
After graduating from Columbia College Erin traveled extensively through the US and Europe. In 1966 she found herself in South Korea working for the Red Cross. With the responsibility of coordinating recreational activities and entertainment for the troops, Erin found her calling. Her love of combining travel and planning began.
Upon Erin’s return to the states she married and was soon stationed with her husband, Pat Mellen in Aschaffenburg, Germany. During her two years in Germany she was able to continue her travels in Europe and fell in love with the history, cuisine and culture.
After her husband’s retirement from the army in 1972 Pat urged Erin to move to Charleston where he had attended college at the Citadel. He assured Erin that her love of history and culture would find a welcome home in a city inspired by European architecture and flavor.
