Campground At James Island County Park

The campground is very basic and traditional, but that’s all you need when you’re coming to visit with a group of Cub Scouts. We set up our tents early in the day, parked our cars on the other side of the trees so they weren’t in the way, and just entertained ourselves all day with food and games. Will definitely be back because they also have camping sites with hookups for water and electric for those who don’t prefer to camp in a tent on the ground the old fashioned way.

Excellent campground. Great facilities. Sites are large and level and much space in between. Lots of room to bike and walk. Huge dog park and facilities for kids. Best kept secret in Charleston area! Best campground we have stayed in!!!

Weve been in about dozen campground s and this one is probably the best. Well designed. Something for everyone!

Excellent campground. Beautiful, clean shaded sites. Clean bathrooms. Nice laundry. Bike/​Running trails throughout the park. The Splash Zone water park is a short walk. Dog park very close to RV sites. We loved everything about our stay. James Island is wonderful.

Excellent campground. We stayed for several nights during spring break. The campground was clean and the staff were all friendly. Most of the sites had plenty of room, but there were some that were not separated from the next. The park is large and has a lot of things to do. The location was very convenient to the tourist locations in Charleston with a 20 minute drive into downtown. They do have wifi, but we found it to be very slow. I would definitely stay here again.

Er bietet alle Annehmlichkeiten, die sich der Camper wünschen kann. Nahezu alle Stellplätze sind full-​hook-​up, einige in drive-​thru (30 – 43), die anderen — weit mehr — back in sites. Wir bekamen den Platz 43. Sollte einmal der Campground ausgebucht sein, kann man für eine Nacht auf der sehr weitläufigen Overflow Area parken.
Auf dem gesamten Gelände gibt es freies WiFi. Die Bathhouses sind sehr gepflegt, nennen sich hier Ceramic Bathhouses. Das Büro ist 24 Stunden besetzt. Alle Wege sind gepflastert, die Stellplätze sehr eben, was das Einnehmen des Stellplatzes einfach und angenehm macht. Selbstverständlich haben alle Plätze Grillstellen und Picnic-​Tische und –bänke. Wer Propane, Eis oder Feuerholz braucht — alles kann erworben werden.
Neben den Stellplätzen für RVs gibt es 10 Cabins und einen separat gelegenen Platz, der ausschließlich Zeltern vorbehalten ist.
Wer laufen und wandern möchte, findet ausreichend gekennzeichnete Trails. Und die Herzen der Angler werden hier höher schlagen, gibt es doch innerhalb des Campgrounds einen kleinen See, der offensichtlich regelmäßig mit Fischen gefüllt wird, die die Angler dann mit viel Geduld wieder herausfischen.
Da dieser Park der Charleston am nahesten gelegen ist, wird ein regelmäßiger Shuttle-​Service dorthin und zurück angeboten ($ 10).
Höhepunkt des Jahres ist das «Holiday Festival of Lights», das seit vielen Jahren von Mitte November bis zum 1. Januar stattfindet. Dann wird die gesamte, sehr weitläufige Anlage des CG wie auch des gesamten Parks drum herum in ein Lichtermeer eingehüllt. Als wir dort waren, liefen gerade die Vorbereitungen: Bäume, Büsche, Wege etc. wurden mit Lichterketten, Lichtfiguren, Beschriftungen und viel mehr hergerichtet. Leider konnten wir das lighting up nicht mehr erleben, es muss berauschend sein. Zehntausende von Besuchern werden zu diesem Holiday Festival of Lights jedes Jahr erwartet.

I agreed to the $ 28 deposit after checking the weather that Tuesday before the weekend I made a reservation for Friday and Saturday. The weather said 10% precipitation. However, the weather tends to change and the night before, they began to call for severe thunderstorms. Since we were camping in a primitive tent, we did not feel comfortable in severe weather with lightening and heavy rain. I called the office the next day to see if there was anything we could work out, and they denied my deposit. They said it must be an alert they receive.
The manager I talked to was not only rude, but extremely condescending. The campground and park is nice, yes, but I will never ever give them business again, nor will I recommend this to any friends. Poor, poor business to take people’s money for not wanting to put themselves in dangerous, life threatening situations.
Make sure you’re willing to lose that $ 28 if something out of your control comes up!

This place is like no other campground or park that I’ve ever seen! I was referred here by locals who said that they will go to this place and stay there for a week just to vacation.
The amenities are very good, there is a dog park, trails, laundromat, and any other kind of amenity that you wish to have. It’s more like a small town. The sites are nice, pretty close together but well manicured and nestled in trees.
You could spend months here if you wanted!

Stayed for seven nights while on spring break from Florida. Almost everyday we found ourselves saying, «I wish they had something like this in Orlando!»
We have quite a few nice campgrounds all across Florida, but no County Park with such a plethora of things to do! A rock wall, rope challenge course, fishing dock, numerous paved bike paths, a new childrens’ park, huge open fields, a large dog park and all the rental (bikes, kiakes, boats, etc.) equipment you need. Every bit of the 600+ acre park is in pristine condition and the staff goes above and beyond to make your stay pleasant. We had a minor electrical issue when we pulled in Saturday night; no problem – they sent someone right out. He was very accommodating and pleasant.
We were in site 124, right around the corner from the office with enough space to fit out 40′ fifth wheel, F350 and golf cart with room to spare. Most, if not all, sites are shaded by oak trees and include a fire ring, free Wi-​Fi and picnic table. If available, we recommend the pull-​thru sites for big rigs. Our site was great, but there’s always one better ;)
You can’t beat the location; only 20 minutes to downtown Charleston and 10 minutes to Folly Beach (highly recommended by the locals).

Cabin was great, as was the park. Cleaner than expected and very convenient to stay there. Had everything we needed: WiFi, laundry machines, shop, grill, etc. We stayed 3 nights and left wanting more.

We camped here for a few nights and had a fantastic time. It is a great base to explore the Charleston area. The park is very nice and they have full hook ups. We want to plan a return trip for the festival of lights. It is supposed to be one of the best in the country. It is attached to huge and beautiful county park, which is a destination in itself.

AMAZING place to hangout for the day, went there for the Cajun Festival and you couldn’t ask for a better location, can;t wait for another event here.

I just wanted to say that this campground is AWESOME!!! It’s got pretty much everything! Full hookups, WiFi, Store, Playground, etc. plus it’s not that spendy! It isn’t cheap, but it’s a fair price for everything you get! I think that anyone looking for a place to stay for long periods of time should definitely stay here!

I have stayed at this campground on four separate occasions, and it remains one of my favorite. Campground is neat, bath house is clean, and the sites are well maintained and big. Plus, you’re just a short drive to Folly Beach.

we camped here for two nights and we’re on our way home. this was our first time staying here but we’ll be back. we tented in the primitive area which was nice. Festival of Lights was going on so not so quiet till after 12. But the tradeoff was worth it… the lights were fantastic… we went both nights.
Dog park is also excellent. We didn’t do the climbing wall or the splash park so they’re on the list for next time.
One evening we had some rowdy neighbors but the ranger straighten them out quickly.
Short drive to all things Charleston and Folly beach so a great spot, especially if you have a dog.

We have stayed at this campground twice. The first time was about five years ago. The second time was last month, for our Spring Break. What I loved about this campground was that the staff run it like a camping resort. The sites are large and far apart. We were sheltered by tall pines and our site backed up onto a wooded area. The bath house and laundry area were kept clean and well maintained. Our camp host was nearby and it was a good thing he was. The water pressure was so good, our hose blew off our camper while we were in Charleston for the day. He disconnected it for us and let us know as soon as we came back.
There is so much to do here, the people are so friendly, you will camp here and you might not want to leave! We did eat out several times while we were in the James Island area, so make sure you check
before you dine. This is a great campground to make as your base camp while you tour the Charleston area.
