I have held off on reviewing this place but after 3 visits I feel it’s time. Our first 2 visits came shortly after this place opened. After our first visit we were very disappointed but they were new and we had some B&D gift certificates to spend so we went back a second time. Again it was a disappointing experience. After a year since that last visit we had heard some good things and decided to give them another shot. I can at least say they are consistent. After a year and 3 visits NOTHING has improved. I have had a burger on 2 of our visits and each time the burger was simply not good. The meat is either frozen or a bad blend of meat that is flavorless and has a homogeneous texture(like a frozen burger). The burgers are overcooked and the buns are incredibly dry(stale?). On our last visit 3 of us had burgers and each of us found them unsatisfactory. I could name several places in Charleston to get FAR better burgers than the ones at B&D.(Sam’s, Bears Den, Celsius, 5 guys…) Other items we have tried were even worse. Nachos, wings, «dragon bites», jalapeño boats… none of these are worth ordering again. The Jalapeño boats were wet and bland. The«dragon bites» were small and cold. The wings were cold and basic. The nachos were cold and soggy. It seems a lot of cold food comes out of the kitchen. The other big issue I have with B&D is the service. It is incredibly slow. All 3 times we were one of the only tables seated and each time we waited 30+ minuets to get our food. Our last visit was on a Sunday around 5:00 and we were there an hour and a half. We were a party of 4 and were the ONLY people dinning. There are a few good things about B&D. They have a great beer selection, they have a pinball machine and, they also have a lot of TVs so it could be a nice place to come watch a game. Just don’t go expecting good food or service. 3 visits, 3 bad meals, 3 long waits… there won’t be a 4th.

We have always loved the burgers and sandwiches, but since the new chef arrived, we are totally in love with the weekend menu!

Wanting to try something new backfired on me today. First we ordered the jerk chicken nachos, I have had more chicken, flavor and spice from taco belle. The hubby ordered a cheeseburger, onion rings(6 came with the burger) and a water. I ordered the chicken aioli with turkey and Swiss, roasted tomatoes and spinach with garlic fries. We ordered at 6:30 and got our food at 7:20 cost of $ 40 With tip. Hubby says the burger wasn’t bad, onion rings were tasteless and reminded me of frozen rings from the ball field. Chicken was okay, bread was good, didn’t taste the aioli and it had ham not turkey. Overall I wasn’t impressed with anything. Service was friendly but slow. Needless to say we missed our movie and headed home on a shortened Valentine’s date without kids we waited 3 months for.

Had a blast tonight with Victor and his crew playing trivia with my beautiful girlfriend Rachel James. Can’t wait until next week! Please feel free to join us on Tuesday night at B & D Gastropub in Kanawha city.

I’ve been searching high & low for a good burger place, but it seems like I’m not looking well enough or I can’t see over the overpopulated fast food restaurants. Luckily for me– I got lost on a one way street, randomly stopped at B&D, looked it up online and I was sold! The interior isn’t something I would associate with a usual gastropub– but whatever, it works. The gouda burger is delicious! Simple, but good. Bacon, grilled mushroom, gouda cheese topped with chile cream sauce. You can also add on staple condiments onto your burger upon request. The Philly burger wasn’t as flavorful as the former– but it was still tasty. Their onion rings are HUGE& crispy goodness! I was also super excited to see that they had garlic fries on the menu, but it wasn’t as garlicky as I wished it would be. More garlic! I need more garlic! Waitresses were all friendly & nice; but service was a bit slow. It might have been because I was tucked away in the corner.

3.5 for the food, 4.5 for the drink selections, solid 4 average. We came here at about 2:45 p.m. on a Wednesday. We were one of two tables there. There isn’t really anything around other than this bar, but I can see how this would be a fun, relaxed place at night. This place doesn’t look like what I would call a normal gastropub. If you are thinking of a hipster, trendy place, this is not it. But the beer selection definitely gives it the gastropub name. You have a huge selection of drinks. Not just beer, but two whole pages of mixed drinks. All at reasonable prices! They have flights of beer. That’s why i would give it a solid 4.5 for drinks. I didn’t even have one and I can see the potential. The food isn’t bad. I would stick to burgers if I came back. I got the Caesar salad with a burger patty and sweet potato fries. The Caesar salad was drenched in dressing and swimming in croutons. It was a bit much. But the patty was absolutely delicious and saved this salad for me. The sweet potato fries seem like the frozen type. I like the cinnamon sugar they add to it, but I probably wouldn’t order it again. So, food was average for me, but if I stuck to normal bar food, like burgers, I probably would have fared better. I like this place. I probably wouldn’t come back just for the food, but I’d definitely come back to drink.

Amazing food as always! My wife and I split a Gouda Burger and Montecristo, both were phenomenal. Beer sampler is also a nice touch.

Very good lil gastropub. We started w the dragon bites — delish! I had a bacon ranch chicken sandwich w garlic fries. Do not pass on those garlic fries! My friend had the garlic aioli chicken sandwich and said it was great too. She had the sweet potato fries which were yummy. It’s not crazy fancy but it’s nice and cozy. Not a great wine selection but they had the basics. Beer is more their thing. Overall a nice experience!

Service is always great, and they may just have the best tap selection in town. Their Reuben is probably my favorite in Charleston, but I always get their Rachel! The Reuben egg roll is not to be missed– it’s as memorable as the deep fried feta at adelphia. Everytime we eat here(a few times a month), we have a conversation along the lines of, «more people need to know about this place!» My husband loves a lot of their burgers… The soups we’ve tried have all been delicious, too. Definitely one of my favorite places in town!

Very good beer selection for the valley with an always changing selection of drafts and usually several West by-God sourced brews. Sun-tue are«Mystery Beer» days, where $ 2 gets you a random beer from the cooler — which can mean some solid crafts for bargain basement cash. The food is quite good. Their burgers are their go-to and they do them right. Made and cooked to order, with a wide(but not outrageously so) selection of toppings and specialty load outs. The fries are hand cut and flavorful and worth getting a basket of by themselves. And for the drinker, B&D now has a full bar available, so a fine cocktail is an option. I tend to stick with the beer, but have had a Blanton’s(neat, ice water back) from time to time. Nice, sports-bar-but-not-too-sports-bar atmosphere. Plenty of TVs for the game but quiet enough for a conversation. Well worth your time and dining/drinking dollars.

Tried this place for the first time the other night with my co-workers. Atmosphere is lacking, but with casual fare that can be expected. Perfect place for appetizers & drinks. Great selection of draft beer and huge mixed drink menu. I decided to try a beer flight of 4 decently sized samples of 3 local brews & a Christmas ale. I like to support local breweries when I can, so they scored points by having a handful of WV options. Every appetizer was pretty tasty and there were some unique options such as «pastrami egg rolls» and feta stuffed dates wrapped in bacon. Delish. I’ll return next time I’m craving good bar food & a cold draft.

Good burgers here. They also have a decent beer selection and ciders are available as well. My family and I have had lunch here a few times and I have also used this place for business lunch meetings as well.

Every time I visit Charleston I dread having to stay more than one night, because the complete lack of half way decent restaurants. Aside from Pies & Pints I have never found anything worthwhile… Thankfully B&D was found! The beer selection was just okay, nothing overly special, but for a WV restaurant I guess I can’t complain. I started with the nachos, nothing really special, the dip was average and chips not homemade. I had the Bacon Cheddar Ranch Burger and it was fantastic! Great bun, burger cooked perfect and the bacon perfectly crispy; the homemade ranch sauce was damn good. I chose garlic fries to accompany the burger and they didn’t disappoint like most garlic whatever side you would get. Nice fresh, minced garlic! The service lacked in it’s friendly face as all of the servers and the bartender had a perpetual frown, and the bartender wasn’t very talkative, but she was around when needed. Based on one meal the food defies the state of WV and the culinary abyss that it is and I will most certainly go back next time I’m in town!

Excellent beer selections, the food is fantastic, and the service is great. I really don’t see what the negative reviews posted here are complaining about.

Went for dinner. Appetizers are good(Dragon bites). The burgers sound great, but are INSANELY overpriced. 12 $ for a burger. The meat they use has a texture like it is pre-pattied. It is a let down for a place to specialize in something and fail so hard. I will not ever order a burger there again, and likely never return.

Went here for lunch today with a co worker. I had the mushroom and horseradish cheese burger. It was cooked as I asked and great bun. The fries seem to be cut on site and we’re delicious and hot. Our server was great. She was very knowledgeable about the menu. Overall good experience. Would definitely go again.

The food was good and we appreciated the beer selection. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired, but I can get over that if I’m happily fed and the company is nice. What I can’t get over is how touchy feely our server was. He put his arm around my husband and attempted to «scare me» by sneaking up behind my bar stool and poking/tickling my sides. Who does that? I have a background in food service, my standards are high, but I know how important it is to give businesses time to get rolling. We will be back, but I hope the service standard improves.

I’ve been there four times and not had a bad experience at all. The fresh draft beer, with a lot of it being local, is superb. Chimay on draught, bonus! The burgers are great, the chips are great, the fries are great. Although some may find this place pricey, I believe that you will get what you pay for.

After reading reviews, I was a little skiddish to come here. However, my fears were unwarranted. Great burgers and beer selection. Owner was super knowledgable and very friendly. Highly recommend checking the place out. Craft beers and rib meat burgers do add up, but are worth it. Perfect for a football weekend with all the tvs. Not a bad seat in the house.

The burgers are obviously fresh and cooked to order with a great fresh bun. I had the mushroom and horseradish cheese burger with beer battered onion rings. Beer selection is good with 3WV brewed beers on tap out of 10 taps. Good bottle selection with the usual selections. Owner is very responsive to suggestions and knowledgable of beers. The review above was obviously disgruntled about something and not giving an honest review.
