Long John Silver’s

Not the best LJS I’ve been to but the food is still good. Tip… if you don’t need lots of sides, you can substitute the 2 fish /​3 chicken platter for 5 fish at a cheaper price than their 3 piece meal.

Parking lot was empty when we arrived. Ordered the cheesy coney dog with onion rings. They were out of ice cream or i would have gotten a shake. Hot dog came without onion rings and was told they would bring them out to me. Had to ask again for drink it was missing. Went back up 10+ minutes later for rings and saw them load a fresh batch into a family pack for the drive thru. Noone was using gloves. I asked for a refund and she said they were fresh. It was the wait and experience i was concerned with. She argued she could only replace it. I pointed out no gloves and no ice cream and bad experience. She said she’d replace it if i brought her food back and that they just got new managers and it wasn’t her fault. She asked what i wanted. A refund. Came back with the money and receipt handed it to me then DEMANDED FOOD BACK AGAIN. Not after the transaction honey! Very unprofessional. Big handwritten signs. Everyone else’s problems still exist. No ice cream. No soda machine. Dirty. No gloves. No good!

This establishment is a Long John Silver’s /​A&W combination. Multiple points of failure:
— The A&W had no root beer. wtf
— The drive thru took 13 minutes. There was one car in front of me and they returned behind me because their order was wrong.
— No napkins in my to-​go order.

Had to stop late Saturday night after a business event. The cashier was friendly (think his name was Mac), but the kitchen staff was slow, rude, and obnoxious. Our small group (6 people) were treated to loud complaining that they would not be able to get off by 10:30, and rude comments about our food choices. Despite the fact that we were holding them up, it still took them easily 25 minutes to produce undercooked chicken and fish with room temperature fries. I became quite ill from the food there. I will never eat there again.

Upon walking into the restaurant we were told that the ice cream machine was broken, they had no Pepsi, no burger buns, no bacon and they had no change. I placed my order at 2:32pm and did not get my food until 3:04pm. I ordered chicken strips, popcorn shrimp and a hot dog accompanied with fries. That’s it!!! All those things could have been made fresh in 7 minutes or less. When the person who took my order gave me my food, he said «I thought my manager was getting your food ready but SHE went in the back». I later asked him to tell his manager that I would like to speak to the manager and he subsequently has a MALE, who was not wearing any uniform, but neither was anybody else, come out to the front and speak to me. Your employee referenced his manager as a female but then sent his male coworker, who was working the drive thru to speak to me. This guy was rude and short and his answer to my question was «you can see we are short staffed» in which I replied, that is your problem not mine.. This terrible experience cost my family nearly $ 30 and I think that it should be fully refunded. I won’t even start on how many customers came in after my family and we’re served before us. I expect a full refund for the way I was treated. We pay the menu prices to dine in your establishment and along with that there is a standard. Your company fell short of delivering what I paid for. In summary, I will never dine here again and will use my position of meeting hundreds of new people every month to pass along the good advice of staying away from this place.

Very bad experience with this place. We arrived to place our order and we were told they had no Pepsi. We order fish and chicken and they told us we would have to wait since they were making the fish and chicken. Total wait time was 20 – 30 minutes. Bad management of this location overall.

This was the worst fast food restaurant I have ever visited. It took 15 minutes to be able to order and there were literally 2 people in front, the food took another 20 minutes to be ready, hot dog combo. The place was dirty the bathroom smelled like it hadn’t been cleaned ever. Oh yeah and no root beer. No way this is a real restaurant, definately a front for something else. Too bad I can’t give zero stars, cause honestly 1 star is way to much.

They were out of burger patties. They were out of burger patties on Sunday at 3pm. I was on the way back from a trip to West Va and looking forward to some a&w so I actually drove by other restaurants that probably had their act together enough to have enough frozen parties to last them to Monday. Bathroom was clean though.

I don’t understand how this place is still running. I live very local and have been many times… I’m not giving it another chance. Every time I go they’re out of everything. Absolutely ridiculous.

I love Long Johns, It was one of my favorite childhood fast food restaurants. I have visited the Long Johns in Charlestown at least 10 – 20 times. Every time I visit I hope that they were better than the last time. This place needs a completely new management. They consistently are out of items including fish! Yes, a fish Resterant out of fish! They have closed at odd hours, one time 6pm on a Sunday, I was so disappointed! Today, their drink machines were out of order, the kitchen was a terrible mess, food was burnt, and they messed up our orders. Sad to say, as much as I love Long Johns, I think I am done visiting this establishment.

The food is adequate, and it’s convenient to my occasional trek between Blacksburg and Baltimore, but two of the last three times I visited, there was no diet root beer. Hey, A&W, you should serve root beer. No longer going to bother. There are many better places to stop.

Wish I would have read the reviews before entering-​but I usually discount them and try to experience it myself… yeah, should’ve listened to everyone else… ordered cheese curds…“we are out”…ordered unsweetened iced tea «our truck isn’t in yet we are out»…OK, can I have an A&W root beer «sorry we are out»… A&W is out of their own root beer? I had a piece of fish-​dry and obviously fried much earlier in the day… soda machine isnt working out front, floor and tables are sticky… limited condiments in lobby (2 – 3 ind packets of tartar and ketchup only)… the cheeseburger was the size of a slider, the fries were cold and chewy-​obviously fried much earlier like the fish… I need to go somewhere else now and eat to get the unsatisfied taste out of my mouth… what a disappointment!!!

UPDATED REVIEW: Came in just after opening. Surly employees, floor was so slippery despite being dry that I was slipping in my work boots on the floor. ANTS floating in my fuckin soda. Tables were disgustingly dirty. And my tray was grimy and unwashed.
Seats are shredded, décor is falling apart, hell, even the outside shades and awnings are falling off. The entire building looks like it hasn’t been kept in years. (Last year on my last trip, they looked ok)
First time in my life I nearly tossed out food. The food was undercooked, the fish was rubbery and all the breading left a chalky after taste. Hell, it tasted chalky while chewing it, who am I kidding.
I was planning on saying something to the manager on duty. But, he was damn surely. I dared not end up in a physical altercation. He already had an attitude before I even placed the order. And, to be quite frank, if I’m going to get arrested for having it out at a restaurant with a manager, it sure in hell won’t be over this place!
Also for the first time in my life, I may just call the health inspector. I have never one in all my years as a food critic, mystery shopper or Unilocaling! STAY THE FUCK AWAY! I’m seeing a lot of similar reviews after posting my checking and they are spot on! No exaggeration from any of them!
If you are the owner, and you are reading this, here’s the only thing I can say. I get it when you closed down the Fredericktowne Mall store. It’s sad hearing about all the issues your store in Hagetrstown is having from employees on the line bitching in front of customers. But, this store is a great example of giving up. Do yourself a favor and just sell your territory to someone who may still give a crap about quality, or at least wants to make money!
I have always loved LJS. Fuck, it has historically been my favorite QSR chain out there and I would often drive pretty far to eat at one, including today, but after this meal, I may likely never step foot inside another LJS as long as I live. I’ll be lucky this meal doesn’t give me cancer!

My family and I were planning a camping trip to this area so we were searching out places to go rafting and sight seeing. We had four children with us so we decided to stop and eat somewhere fast we came along A&W /​long John silver’s it was one of those combo chains so we go in to eat which is rare when we do take out fast food we usually just go to the drive threw. First off my daughter tells me the bathroom smells but it’s a toilet so I tell her yeah people shit suck it up… She’s a whiner so I don’t know how bad it is till I go in. Its horrible it smells like a porta potty at the fair worse even. Then we order, they don’t have one menu item no big deal, we go get our soda two of the 8 selections are out of order including the big barrel of A&W root beer, there are two bottles by the soda machine, half full but the labels have been torn off so who knows. My mother gets the wrong food which is especially upsetting because she knew they had it mixed up and double checked with the woman who rang us up who looked and said yes the orders right, but the food took so long to get she just kept the food they gave her… see this is the kind of people we are easy… to a point. My mother used the mens room the food was cold and a woman was loudly complaining to the manager who was informing her she couldn’t refund her money for missing food because it had happened the day before. Which seems not entirely ridiculous but the woman had been calling since she discovered the. missing food but as the manager said they have phones they just aren’t allowed to answer them??? I can’t articulate how horrible this place was!

Why is this even open?
WORST food. Nothing is fresh, all the deep fried items must be made at 3:00 a.m. and held all day.
Disgusting! No way can this pass inspection.
The ‘service’ is non existent. The workers don’t care one bit.
The owner must use this as a front for something else because I honestly have never had worse fast food ANYWHERE.
I’d give it minus 5 stars if I could!

Worst customer experience ever! Cold food waited 20 minutes and didn’t even receive all of what I ordered. To top it off no one will answer the phones to make it right!

Order is never right and the food tastes nasty, obvious they don’t change their grease. The food is even dark brown. I kept giving the benefit of the doubt but I am done!

No root beer at a and w. Crispy critter burgers. Prices really high.
No sweet tea. Bathroom your feet got a shower at the sink.
Worse than before they fired everyone and started over. I.e. owners must really suck.

I love their root beer, plain and simple, but i will never come here again because it is out of my way. Once I came here and they were out of root beer… at a root beer place? Really? And just now, even though their hours are posted as 10 – 10 every day, they were not open at 11:30 because they didn’t have a manager there and would not sell me a drink. You need a manager to sell a drink? I won’t bother stopping again.

Yet another stinking example of corporate douche-​baggery. The less for less corporate philosophy is very apparent here. Small portions, low quality. The people here seem very sad to be here… understandably. The only upside is the décor is nice. Seats are ripped but the paint and the structure is nice. Even the bathroom was out of everything. This is a perfect example of how a business is run when no one wants to be here. Which I don’t blame them for.
