History

Established in 1983.

Owners Chuck and Sharyn Peabody left suburban Boston in 1981 to follow a dream — open their own business that gave people a thrill and would be rewarding as business owners. They bought Crab Apple Acres Inn, a quaint hunting and fishing lodge in The Forks, Maine — population 30. From suburban Boston to The Forks — culture shock to say the least. After running the Inn (still the family home) for two years, Crab Apple Whitewater was born. Chuck and Sharyn’s children, Jennifer and Robert, grew to love the river and eventually became part of the business. The business has grown steadily for nearly 30 years and has added a major operation in Massachusetts run by Jennifer and her family.

The entire family now consists of seven adults and the next generation of kids that help in the summers. Chuck and Sharyn still steer the family business and are on hand every day in Maine.
