We had a great time at DSI on Friday night. Friendly staff, lots of choices at the bar. I like my alcohol girly so I had a Root Beer Beer which was sweet and fun, and really did taste just like root beer only with a buzz. First show was Improv, which I thought was among the best improv I have ever seen. This group was fast, smart and funny! Then the stand up show. The host was friendly, the comics were likeable. Of course their humor appealed to different tastes, but I thought they were all funny. We really liked the headliner, whose name I have forgotten. I would come out to see him again. It might be good to have a chalkboard or some other sign with the performers names on it to help them build name recognition. Then there was another round of improv, which had a different format that I had trouble following. The group basically started with a few themes and riffed on them so fast and furious that I couldn’t keep up! I don’t know if they always do this, but if you come to an early show and buy your ticket, you are pretty much in for the night, so you can sit through the rest of the shows. That makes this a real bargain evening. They don’t serve food which is fine. After the last show we went next door to Carolina Brewing Company and had some tasty southern style apps and beer. Also recommended!

There are few institutions of comedy that are of the quality of DSI. Just about anyone can name drop UCB or The Second City but if someone mentions they took classes at or performed on the main stage at DSI, that catches my attention. Under the primary leadership and always on the improv hustle Zach Ward, this comedy theater has become a mainstay of not only North Carolina but of the general south. Various groups from all over North America make the annual trip to DSI for the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival. It is by far one of the best comedy festivals out there with great variety and high quality acts. Throughout the rest of the year, DSI is the place to go for classes and shows. If you live within the area there is no better comedy education you can receive. They recently moved into a new facility and it is now better than ever. It will be here for years to come.

The improv show we saw here was really funny and the players were very talented and energetic. I would give the show 5 stars. The facility was a bit cramped, but intimate.
