Nice little café. The barista was so sweet.
We took a ice café moka and a Blueberry muffin. Both of those tasted great.
The muffin was homemade in the morning and was really good.
The atmosphere was nice with soft jazzy music.
The only bad point was probably the look of the place. Weither inside or outside… It wasn’t really pretty…
Except that, we had some good time there.

Very quiet and cozy – good place to work if you’re into that sort of ambiance. They serve Counter Culture coffee at reasonable prices, and I love the scones.

The scones. Oh. My. Gosh. Buttery and fluffy and if you can come in when they’re still warm from the oven, I swear you barely need to chew.
I mostly needed to grab a loaf of bread (and a sweet treat for the mid afternoon blues), so I appreciated the fact that they have their own parking lot. Indoor, it’s clean with plenty of seating. There are plenty of outlets for students to sit and study on their laptop or just get some work done outside of the house. Staff are friendly and I think this is locally owned.
Overall: an awesome place to grab some bread and relax.

I admit I was there fairly early on a Sunday morning but they had one carafe of coffee and nothing to eat.

The most comfortable and delicious coffee shop and bakery in chapel hill. I feel like I’m in my living room when I sit and study here. The atmosphere is comfortable and quaint. They exclusively play jazz music in the background and the entire place smells of freshly baked bread and coffee. Try the brioche a tete if you don’t like overly sweet baked goods — a crusty top with a soft, sweet, and hot center. Also, the bostock is amazing. A brioche base soaked in grand marnier and almonds. This is my go to place to study, relax, and drink coffee in chapel hill. They also have really comfy couches to sink into. The majority of the people there are students or others studying, so don’t come here looking for an electric coffee shop vibe with lots of discussion. Come here if you want to relax, read a book, listen to jazz, and eat great pastries and baked goods.

I’m rather particular about my baked goods, having worked in bakeries great and mediocre. The markings of a great one; a quality and inexpensive french baguette or batard, a crusty yet moist and caverned sourdough round, and not-​too-​sweet moist scones. A quality sourdough should have a crusty but sturdy unflaking crust and chew, varying degrees of sour but the more the better assuming the previous criteria are met and a great french bread should be chewy, not squishy with a rigid but pliable crust. The breads at Bread and Butter meet these requirements and at reasonable prices. I love the farmer’s market and other local bakery sources like the CoOp in Carrboro, but the price and quality of the breads here makes them my go-​to for special occasions and, soon hopefully, brunches alike.
Speaking of brunch, scones anyone? The blueberry scone here is unrivaled, filled with a layer of sizeable berries and tender but dry enough to go hand in hand with some good Counter Culture. It’s not the bakery I remember so fondly from my undergraduate, but it could have been.

This is my go-​to place for studying. Great ambience with jazz standards playing around the clock. Incredible cookies and scones. Smells delicious in there. Excellent coffee and best mocha in town!

This is my favorite coffee shop in town in the winter. It is always so warm and steamy (I assume from the bed baking?).
Very quiet and easy to get work done in, with plenty of outlets and tables available. They also have some of the best coffee in town! Try the brioche if you are a fan of less-​sweet baked goods :)

Really lovely place for some coffee, tea, or a pastry snack. I had a tea and some bread (homemade loaf) and all were lovely. It’s a small, cozy place that is perfect for studying or having a soft conversation. Also has outlets on one side for convenience. And free parking right outside! Will definitely go again!

I bought a blueberry scone for $ 2.75. It came fresh out of the oven and was warm and buttery on the inside and crunchy and toasted on the outside. A must-​have here! I also tried to brioche, which wasn’t fresh out of the oven, but equally as good. It had a milky flavor and was very filling. Lastly, I tried a freshly brewed cappuccino, which came served in a mug. It was fairly empty for a Saturday afternoon, but that was most likely because most UNC students have left for winter break. They have plenty of outlets and large tables for those who want to come here to work or study. If I lived closer, this would be my daily go-​to coffee shop.

Came here with the lady for an afternoon pick me up around 3 and there were a few people here studying since its midterm season at UNC. The atmosphere here is definitely that of a study café, plenty of tables and extension cables to plug into, but the quality of coffee and food is definitely above your average café.
We shared a blueberry scone and each got a café mocha. The mochas were served in actual mugs which was a nice touch, and both were excellent, not too sweet and a good balance of coffee and chocolate. The blueberry scone was fantastic, it was warm and fresh from the oven, super crunchy on the outside and really fluffy inside. We actually came back the next day to grab more scones for breakfast!
I really enjoyed the quality coffee and scones they had here and would definitely recommend coming here either for a snack or to study!

Love this little place. Firstly, let me just point out that the temperature is always perfect inside for studying. At other coffee shops I always find myself freezing after an hour.
Other bonus points are that there is always ample parking, available tables, free wifi, good music, and good, strong coffee/​tea. The little ladies that work here are cute, it’s clearly a family-​owned place and they make wonderful organic pastries and breads. I’m currently eating a delicious blueberry scone and their sourdough breads are delicious as well.
A little dark inside, only open until 8 most nights and they don’t have «real food» but it’s a bakery/​coffee shop, not a deli. Overall, very very good.

Quiet, and pleasant with a mom and pop feel. The food is scrumptious and the coffee is pretty good. It’s my favorite place to study in the area, just try to get there in the morning if you want to snag a good spot as it tends to fill up later in the day.

Delightful…so nice that I get upset if rude customers ruin it for others (like the UNC undergrad being REMARKABLY uncouth today as outlined below).

This place is so great, don’t ruin it for others. I just watched a UNC undergrad come in, seat himself at a large table that is next to one of the only two outlets… and NOT buy a thing. Don’t be an embarrassment to your school, man. BUY SOMETHING or GO TO THE LIBRARY.
I’d like to apologize to the owner on that ingrate’s behalf.

Bread & Butter is small and obviously independent bakery that offers CounterCulture coffee and house baked goods. Parking can be at a premium in this neighborhood, so rejoice in their ample lot that offers some shaded spots and no meters. The atmosphere is pleasantly homey with only a hint of hipster.
Premium baked goods can sell out or have a limited selection, so get here early. Later in the day there might not be much left. Not necessarily a bad thing, as it indicates that everything is fresh and house made.
One thing that disturbed me was the sight of CounterCulture coffee beans for sale in June with a January roast date. No no no no no no don’t do that. Sorry, but if you wouldn’t do it to baked goods, don’t do it to premium quality roasted coffee.
There was only one person behind the counter when I visited. He seemed to know the basics of pulling a shot, but the execution left a bit to be desired. When I offered honest feedback that it wasn’t the best shot I’d had and could have used a little less extraction time, he kindly offered a re-​do which was improved.
Would definitely recommend in the morning for their baked goods.

Delicious scones. Bread was good too, but wish the butter was creamier. Coffee was pleasantly sweet (no extra sweetener added). Simple syrup and milk available. Atmosphere could’ve been better. The layout behind the counter left something to be desired and the roof was sagging in.

Finally, I am here. It’s cozy on a Sunday morning and not a lot of people hanging around. The bakery stuff looks cool but I wish they can offer free refill coffee

Somewhat disappointed in my experience today. Arrived before noon, so I expected a good variety of baked goods to choose from. Instead, all they had left were 2 types of scones, chocolate chip cookies, and baguettes. That’s it. Not sure if they were busy baking more items in the back, but that’s a pretty paltry selection. I can get a bigger variety of baked goods at Starbucks. But anyways, I ended up grabbing a couple of scones to go. They were quite tasty, so no complaints there, but I do think they need to keep their items better stocked.
I may give this place one more shot if I happen to be in the area. But not sure I’d make a trip out to Carrboro just to come here, like I did today.

CH was in need of a place like this. I stopped in on a weekday morning and picked up some cinnamon rolls, scones, and a latte. The latte was very good, which is not always the case since coffee can be more of an afterthought at some bakeries.
The cinnamon rolls were delicious — they aren’t as ooey gooey sweet as I might have expected but I actually preferred it that way.
The place was quiet with some ambient music in the background and there were a couple of people studying. Definitely has a relaxed vibe to the place and if I went to school around here it would be my number 1 study/​hangout spot. It doesn’t hurt that the yummy bakery aromas are constantly wafting through :)
I would definitely come back and try out some of their loaves and boules too, but I’m glad to know that there is finally a place in my hometown that has delicious baked goods AND good coffee
