I stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks while on business; I chose it because the room rates were good. It is a charming older hotel in downtown Chanute and has definite character. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable, the sheets were clean the shower was hot, and the staff, when available, were very nice. Parking is available and seemed safe. On the negative side: 1) Housekeeping only came 50% of the time, and when they did, they nearly always forgot to replace soap/toilet paper. I brought this up to the front desk, and they retrieved some soap and TP for me, but the room was still never reliably tidied. My room was missing remotes for the AC and the TV, and there were cosmetic containers under the bed from a previous guest — dusty, so I’m sure it was not a recent previous guest. Vacuuming under the bed is apparently not something they practice. 2) My room key only worked half of the time and I made 3 separate trips to the front desk to have a new card made. 3) The hotel has not been well maintained: the window blinds and shower curtain would regularly fall off if slightly touched and I had to gingerly shower to avoid bumping them; yes, there is a window inside the shower! 4) The room came with a free breakfast coupon. Unfortunately, the restaurant was never open during their posted hours while I was there so the coupon was pointless. 5) At one point, the owner of the hotel called me, which I thought was going to be a nice touch to check on my experience. It wasn’t. He was only calling to verify my length of stay because he thought the front office had undercharged me(they hadn’t); not once did he ask about my stay or experience in his hotel. This was a missed opportunity for him to improve the guest experience. 6) I’m not sure why the word«suite» is in the hotel title. The small rooms have a mini fridge and a coffee pot, which hardly qualify to be called a suite. For an overall experience, I give it 2 stars in comparison to many other hotels I’ve stayed at. I would stay here again, now that I have lower expectations, because the price was decent and I enjoyed the character of the hotel. Don’t come here expecting a luxury experience. Then again, I’m not sure anyone travels to Chanute, KS looking for luxury!

Probably the worst hotel in Chanute. stayed for 2 nights and checked out even though the reservation was for a week. They make you pay ahead of time in case you realize that this place is actually not a good place to stay and you end up wanting to leave. The Super 8 is a little further south but it is such a better place. I wanted to get a 1 queen bed ‘suite’ non-smoking but they only have those available in smoking. So I had to settle with a 2 queen bed ‘suite’ in order for my room not to smell like cigarettes. Let me say that the rooms are tiny. I had 2 bedrooms each with a queen size bed in them. There was just enough space that I could barely move around. The bathroom was tiny and the shower could only fit one person. And when I say one person, that means if you are overweight, you will have a hard time moving around in there. The tv’s are completely out-dated. One of the tv’s was from the 80’s while the other was from the late 90’s. No flat screens or HDTV. Ok. No problem, I can live with that. But if you’re going to give me a tv from the 80’s, I’m going to need a remote for that because the remote that I had did not work for that one. Moving on, the closet was a decent size. The only problem was that when person on the floor above me showered, the water ended up pouring down into my closet. I had to quickly remove all of my clothes before they became soaked. They were still wet in the end. So if that’s bad, then wait until this. I asked for a non-smoking room and I got a non-smoking room. However, the rooms around me were smoking and the smell of cigarettes from them would seep into my room while I was trying to sleep. Oh. And there were times when it wasn’t only cigarette smoke I was smelling. There was definitely marijuana being smoked as well and this would seep into my room too. The only advantage that this hotel has is that it’s located right downtown. However, besides that, there is no other redeeming qualities about this place. Go stay at the Super 8 further south. It’s closer to a Walmart, fast food joints, etc. When I told the guys I was working with that I was staying here, they all cringed and told me that there was a more modernized Super 8 down the road. And the Super 8 is cheaper.

Need to stay in Chanute or within 45 miles? Yes, give Tioga Suites a visit. Neat, historical place that’s been remodeled & modernized. Room rate under $ 100 is a very good value compared to what you get in bigger cities. Our«room» was actually two connected rooms, with 2TV’s, full-size fridge and kitchenette with microwave and free popcorn to boot. Located right downtown and within walking distance of a very nice downtown area and next door to a safari museum housed in a restored and grand train station. Nice place. Only disappointment was the sign posted in the adjoining Zarelli’s restaurant: closed for good. There is another family-type restaurant open next door, but we didn’t like the food. If they can get another Italian place to open up in the ground level entrace to Tioga Suites, it will be great.

We try to stay here whenever we make a trip back to see my family. The staff are always very helpful, the rooms generally very nice, and there’s free wifi :) Add to that the fact that the place is(maybe) haunted, and it’s a super-win! We love the fact that it’s downtown, so just a short jaunt to several restaurants. Plus, there’s the added bonus of TWO restaurants sharing space with the hotel. One is a charming sub shoppe with on-site-brewed root beer. The other a family restaurant open for all the meals of the day. Yay!
