K&K Hardwood Floor

K and K installed laminate in my finished basement and oak on the stairs going down to the basement. I had several estimates done and their price was the best, plus the man giving the estimate (James) was prompt and courteous in his arrival and in getting the estimate to me. I waited awhile between getting the estimate and giving the go-​ahead for the work but it was no problem. The work was scheduled promptly, with half down and the balance due upon completion. The installers arrived promptly and worked efficiently throughout the day. They were pleasant and professional and tried to do it with as little disruption as possible on a Saturday. I am so pleased with the results. The stairs and floor both look great and seem solid. I will definitely use this company again when it is time to put bamboo in my upstairs.

K&K floors did a fantastic job installing Brazilian Tigerwood hardwood flooring on the first level of our house. This is our second time using K&K and they did not disappoint. Our salesman, John, was knowledgeable and easy to deal with and not pushy and helped us find the exact flooring we sought. The price was very competitive and they applied a additional discount for us as a returning customer.
The install team did a great job! They arrived on time and make quick work in tearing up the old floors and prepping for the new hardwood. They worked quickly and cleanly and finished installing the entire three rooms and foyer in one day. WOW!
The floors look great and really changed the way the house looks. I would highly recommend K&K to anyone looking for hardwood or laminate flooring. Great prices, service, and installation.

Project was to install serenity hardwood throughout main floor and upper floors. We had a great experience with James, he was very attentive and accommodating. On the other hand The installation work was not as we would have expected based on all the reviews on Unilocal and Angie’s list — we expected a top notch job. Now KK will be back for the 2^nd time to fix all kind of installation issues (squeaking, misaligned wood planks, factory defective planks, glued in sand stains, etc.). unfortunately the more we walk around inspecting the work the more disappointed we are. On the other hand, we love the wood we picked, but it seems KK does not master installing this type of wood (serenity) properly yet because (according to them) it is factory finished and because planks are of different sizes which makes it hard to get a clean install! So WHY sell smth you don’t know how to install in the first place! Regardless, I believe they would have delivered a higher quality install if they actually took time to inspect as they install which clearly was not the case.
At any rate, this is just the 1^st part review, I will write the second and final one once they are «done» fixing all issues, hopefully soon as it is becoming very frustrating and inconvenient.
As to wether I’ll use them again or recommend them, I am not sold yet and will wait to see how they handle making things right before I can vouch up/​down

I echo many of the other reviews of K & K Hardwood Floors of Chantilly, VA. Every contact I had with their staff, from Scotty, the estimator, to Areli, the installer, was highly professional. I chose K & K out of 5 companies due to their price, which beat the rest, and their consistently high reviews.
K & K replaced the carpeting and vinyl tile in the first level of my townhouse with hardwood. They had to deal with a sunken living room and uneven kitchen floor, which had been raised previously. Areli stayed with the job for countless hours, returning the next day to complete the job. Every attention was paid to detail, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the end result.
I would definitely call them again for flooring needs.

James and his team at K&K were great! My wife & I were buying hardwood flooring for the first time and over the course of about 7 months, K&K got us through the process. All of our questions, back & forth, were answered and our floors were installed earlier this week. They look great and the installers from K&K were pleasant but professional and could not have been nicer to have working in our home.

It’s never good when another professional looks at your newly installed floor and in dismay, says «wow.» I had K&K install bamboo flooring and I’m very disappointed. After having several flooring companies look at their installation, I decided to post my experience as they all noted issues with the installation. I went back and forth with a 1 star or a 2 star rating and while their installation was not considered to be a «failed floor,» there were so many issues that there was no way I could justify anything but the lowest rating.
Instead of writing a thesis, I will try to be brief and outline my issues. Sorry, it’s still long though.
Installation:
— K&K did not let the hardwood acclimate to the temperature of the home, which effectively voided the manufacturer’s warranty of the hardwood. The box specifically says the bamboo needs to acclimate for at least 3 days but they came in and installed immediately
— Large gaps seen between hardwood
— Putty used to fill gaps and in at least one instance, caulking
— Worker who came to do repair work after the initial installation, directly put the pneumatic air compressor on the newly installed hardwood without placing anything underneath the compressor to protect the hardwood (though not posting, I did take a picture of it).
— Various dings along the newly installed hardwood. Makes sense when workers don’t take care to protect the floor they’re installing. However, owner claimed it’s «wear and tear»
— At least one nail that was left popped up in a high traffic area of the hallway
— Stairs poorly installed with gaps showing
— One piece of molding that was installed under the steps along the stairs is cracked
Clean up:
— Workers left the floor without cleaning up (sawdust and glue still on floors)
— Glue stains on the hardwood (I cannot remove them, even when using recommended cleaners such as Bona) and I will have to get glue remover or mineral spirits to clean up. All other businesses said that they clean all of this up after they install
Installation effects on home:
— Installation damaged parts of the ceiling above stairs
— Dining room lights left on after workers left, with many burnt out and broken bulbs. I was out of town and the home was empty with no shades so people clearly saw that no one was home when the lights were on.
Communication:
— Business owner’s email response times slowed soon after I agreed to the contract
— I pointed out a subfloor bump/​rise during the initial visit, and noted that if there is any concern, they should consult with me. I happened to be out of town during installation (huge mistake on my part). They installed over the bump without talking to me about options, and now I see bigger gaps between the panels there.
— I requested they take pictures once the old flooring was removed and business owner told me sure (see email quote below). When I checked after the installation, he said he did not take pictures.
— I wanted the panels installed vertically on the first floor, not horizontally. Sadly, we did not discuss this beforehand so not much that could be done. However, the business owner told me that the foreman called him to ask which way to install and without consulting me, he made the decision to install horizontally because the previous installation was also horizontal.
— Business owner said in an email «I will take the pix of before and after of the concrete as well. I will personally oversee the installation and keep you updated on the progress.» Based on my previous point about the foreman calling him, he was not there at the site and he didn’t take pictures like he had promised.
Final Thoughts:
I can probably go on and list more issues but I hope my fellow Unilocalers have an idea of what I went through. This was one of the few times that prior Unilocal reviews steered me in the wrong direction and I hope people reading this review at least take my experience into consideration before making a decision on their flooring needs. Friendly and nice before the contract, but then everything else was downhill from there. K&K was one of the more cost-​effective options and be warned, I got what I paid for.
I HUGELY regret hiring them and do not want anything to do with them in the future.

We’re beyond satisfied. K&K team was fantastic and the work they’ve done on our house has exceeded our expectations many times over. In addition to putting down hardwood in our house (second floor), they have repaired our subfloor. It no longer makes noise and feels very solid. We only wish we would have done this sooner. Scotty was our estimator and he was great to work with. James and his team were fantastic. The price was fair and the work they have done was phenomenal. We highly recommend K&K. If I had a flooring business I would model it after K&K. These guys know what they’re doing.

Extremely pleased with the customer service and the price point of K&K. James was polite, professional and timely in our communication and appointment. The estimate appointment was low pressure and quick. James followed up immediately with the promised emailed quote. The quote was organized and simple to understand, addressing each of my needs and requests. The estimate was fair and competitive to the other quotes I received for same products and type of work needed. Ultimately, I chose another company for my flooring solely based on my needs changing slightly and the other company was able to accommodate additional work that is out of K&K’s scope. Even though I did not contract with K&K, I was impressed with the company and I will definitely be using them after we sell this home and move on to our next house.

Even after determining we were unable to do business together… and even though he was busy… James stuck with my question and gave me the answers I needed to get a job done.

Been meaning to do this for more than an year now which was around the time when we used K&K Hardwood Floor to fully convert the main level of our single-​family home to hardwood. Ours was a bit tricky since that level was already 30% hardwood and one area required interleaving the wood but Andrew found us the exact matching hardwood and assured us that the interleaving will be taken care of.
We had got quite a few quotes and K&K was the second lowest among five. We were compelled to consider the lowest quote since the difference was $ 1.5K but we really liked Andrew for the service he had provided us. He had come over multiple times to explain things in detail that we were not clear on. So we contacted him to ask him if he could match the lowest price which he was unable to do but he did knock off $ 1K. At that point it was a no-​brainer even thought K&K was $ 500 more expensive and we didn’t regret that decision.
It was a big job so a crew of 4 installers showed up on time, proceeded to curtain off areas to avoid dust from going to those areas. They were very careful with the furniture when they were moving it around between rooms to clear the area. They pretty much worked non-​stop for about 8 hours (except for a 20 min lunch break) and did a fabulous job. Extremely professional, courteous as well as friendly.
When they moved the furniture back to the hardwood, they meticulously made sure that each piece had ample pads on it. They vacuumed the floors and all areas that got some dust. The installation was perfect and flowed through our main level seamlessly. We couldn’t be more happier.
We have since recommended them to multiple of our friends who were impressed with the job that K&K did with our home.

K and K was able to do an urgent job for me to fix scratches and worn areas in my kitchen floor. It was a small job and they warned me that doing only half a room could leave a noticeable difference. but they were prompt, efficient, and best of all, did a perfectly seamless match between the kitchen and living room floors. Fantastic! Very happy.

Had hardwood floors installed in a smallish bedroom. They extended the same floors from hallway into bedroom and it was seamless. Easy sales process with James. Impeccable work. Highly recommend.

I know K&K gets great reviews here and on Angies. I called them for an estimate little over a year ago, a Mr. Kim came and measured. Talked a lot about doing a lot of stuff (he was here probably over an hour) and about how he was a general contractor and stuff. Said that there was a big store in Chantilly and I should come and see their samples. I was supposed to get an estimate by email.
Well, that email never came. I called K&K and an assistant took my name and said Mr. Kim would call me back ASAP. Well Mr. Kim never called me back. A week later I called and said that Mr. Kim still had not called or emailed me regarding the estimate and if I didn’t hear from him by tomorrow, I would not use them. The assistant assured me that Mr. Kim would call me that day. Of course, I never got a call or email. Totally wasted 5 phone calls (3 just to arrange the appointment) and two weeks from them.
To this day, I thought the confusion may have been that I was suppose to go to the store prior to getting the estimate. But at no point during my phone calls did anyone made this clear. Hope you guys get better luck.

Extensive collection and great service. James explained ALL the options so clearly and helped us make the right decision. Don’t need to look any further.

We had our floors refinished and K&K did an excellent job. The crew showed up on time both days. They were meticulous sanding and staining. We could not be happier. James is a pleasure to deal with. He responded promptly to all my questions. I highly recommend them.

Professional & Prompt!
I spoke with three floor companies before calling K&K. All of them had let me down. James, who I spoke with, laid everything out very clearly and got back to me with an estimate right away.
In the end, I didn’t end up using them (because the buyer of the house went in a different direction), but K&K was read for me, and at a good price. I will use them in the future.

K&K did a superb job installing hardwood floors in our living and dining rooms. The installation team was excellent and took their time to ensure that the job was done correctly. By contrast to other local shops that use floating contract installation crews, K&K installers protected adjacent areas from dust and debris and once the job was completed they moved all of the furniture back into position. Marco, our salesperson, was easy to work with and accommodated our needs for estimating and scheduling the work. With respect to price, K&K was 10−15% lower than flooring companies I had used in the past and were far superior in workmanship. Would highly recommend, they made the process painless.

I highly recommend K&K Hardwood Floor, Inc. After getting five quotes to replace three carpeted rooms with hardwood I decided to go with K&K Hardwood Flooring. This decision was based on all the great reviews on Angie’s List & Unilocal AND the reasonable price that was quoted. Marco Schiavenin was my sales representative who came out to measure my floors and provided me with a quote. He was very professional & knowledgeable. He gave me the awesome recommendation to install new white shoe moldings in the living room area (where I already had hardwood floors). The new hardwood floors look seamless with the hardwood floors that were already in place. Melesio Gonzalez AND Arely Arellano were the installers. They did a FABULOUS job! We called K&K to come help with a problem floor that had been completed by another company. They came out and were friendly, professional, very knowledgeable, did NOT try to overstate the problems with our current floor.
Instead they pointed out the problem areas versus things that are normal for a redone hardwood floor, agreed it wasn’t done right but that it wasn’t the worst ever, and at the end did NOT try to sell us more work! They were happy to provide good professional answers and promised to do great work for us in the future, but their advice: live with this for a year or two and see how it is, we’ll fix it for you later! Very impressed.
