I used Pack Rat when I moved from Las Vegas to Virginia in summer of 2012. It was expensive, but worth the price. I was able to get some of it back on taxes as well. I didn’t want to drive it all here myself, and my wife didn’t want to sell half our stuff. They were very organized and professional the whole time. The drop off was as scheduled, and what was nice is that I took my time filling it up over 4 days. They picked it up and shipped it over. I paid just one month extra for them storing it at the Chantilly facility, which I was able to go into multiple times. I just called in advance and they made sure it was outside on ground level. One time it was on top of another, but they had someone restack for me. If they were closed amd I was there I made sure I had paperwork in case security asked me questions, which didn’t happen. The delivery was great as well. The way my parking lot made it a little difficult to line up the unit, but the driver did it. Same thing I unpacked over 3 days so me and my teenage son could unload it. Next time we move cross country if we do I’d use them again, but Id rather sell all large items amd bring only what can fit in our vehicles and a small trailer to pull. So much cheaper that way.

After performing our due diligence, my wife and I selected Pack-Rat for our cross-country move from northern Virginia to Olympia, WA. My wife and I wanted to pack our more valuable and delicate items ourselves and have full control over the container, and then let the movers handle the furniture and other less valuable things. Pack-Rat was not the cheapest(I believe the difference was $ 300 higher than POD), but it gave us the most container space, and the reviews for POD were horrible, and it had a bit less interior space because of its design. After measuring the Pack-Rat container, I did find that it was one inch less in width than advertised, but all other measurements were accurate. We packed it tight. When the container arrived, the driver leveled the 16′ container in our driveway. The only reason I am giving Pack-Rat four stars and not five is because they use 2×4 wood blocks to level the container, which was not the most stable or safe system. I would have preferred to see them use jacks, which would have been much safer. We had the same issue at the delivery location. I would not exclude Pack-Rat in your decision based on this, but I was somewhat fearful for the driver’s safety, and a bit for my own when loading the container. But at the end of the day, it didn’t move or wobble when it was being loaded. The driver and his helper were very friendly and concerned with making sure nothing would get damaged as we had a townhouse with a single-car garage space, so there wasn’t a lot of space on either side of the container. They did a very good job — with the exception of the leveling issue noted above. The container arrived in Washington as scheduled, and everything was in order. We haven’t found any broken items yet, but we haven’t finished unpacking all of the boxes yet. Would I use them again? Definitely. Everything went as expected, although the invoice was about $ 120 higher than the proposal, they credited my account immediately for the difference when I called their customer service department. No hidden fees were involved. I am a satisfied customer.

We recently moved from Washington, DC to Denver, CO. Moving across the country is no small task and we put a lot of time and effort into finding a moving service that we felt comfortable handing our lives over to. 1−800-PACK-RAT was a joy to work with from the very first phone call. The sales team was pleasant and helpful. They gave us time to shop around and didn’t harass us with endless emails, offers and phone calls like so many other companies did. They were waiting for us and were able to pick up our conversation with regards to our move and needs once we did end up calling them back. Really fantastic. Leaving DC, our container was delivered on time and we were given a heads up, which was nice. They also made it clear that they were flexible should we need more time to get our streets permits in order, packing done, etc. The driver who dropped off and picked up our DC container, Patrick, was a happy, friendly man. He looked tired and busy but you couldn’t tell from his jolly demeanor. He was polite and cordial, someone I would invite into my home for dinner. Fast forward one week, we signed our new lease and prepped our new place for our container’s arrival. We should mention that, even though our street didn’t require this, 1−800-PACK-RAT informed us that should a permit for the container to be placed on our street be required, they would take care of it. Unheard of. We received communication confirming a drop off time and then again the day of our drop off just to let us know that they were on their way. Again, a very driver welcomed me to Denver and told me a few local haunts to visit to get acquainted with the area. This company must take care of their employees because, again, he was very friendly. We called when we were done unpacking and were assured we could keep the container longer should we need it, with no penalty. They came, scooped it up and that’s that! I would recommend 1−800-PACK-RAT to anyone planning on moving, locally or long distances. The price was right, friendly staff and reliable service. We were very happy and I should add that we PACKEDTHATCONTAINERTIIIIIGHT and all of our belongings arrived safely without a scratch. Thanks, guys. =) Heather & Jarrod

Absolutely the most stress free part of our move was working with 1−800-PACK-RAT! Great personnel on the phone and at both ends of the move. My calls and emails were always answered. Scheduling was extremely convenient. All the drivers we met were courteous and willing to do what it took to get our three units delivered and picked up when we needed them. I also want to give credit to the transit team that drove our household goods from Virginia to Ohio. Our belongings arrived in great shape — indicating to me they were gently handled and cared for along the way. Anyone considering a DIY move, this is the best option. Since we had to wait a few weeks to close on on our new home, I found it more flexible than packing and repacking a truck. Everything stays in the same container they were originally packed in, and gets stored at a 1−800-PACK-RAT facility until needed. And, as far as my experience went, I got better value than the other mobile container vendors that I received quotes from(1−800-PACK-RAT beat PODS by at least a couple thousand bucks — no lie).

Had former stuff in storage with them for almost 2 years. Billing was always accurate and when it came to drop off and pickup container they where on time. Everything was pretty much automated which made it convenient. No complaints.
